Pau played this at their recent concert at the Pepsi Centre in Mexico City. She sat at a Grand Piano, with an accompanying string orchestra, in front of 8000 fans and gave an emotional rendition. She then moved on to sing “Breathe” in a live performance for the first time, something she said she would never do as it was too emotional. She almost made it to the end, but when what seemed like all 8000 fans started to sing with her she was overcome with emotion and had to cut it short by a few bars. So much passion.
I’m a 60 year old alcoholic in recovery. This song brings me to tears every time.

Written by Pau at 13 (are you kidding me⁉️)? Pau pours her heart out here, performing it live at 15. Sisters Ale (13) and Dani (17) provide tasteful and restrained musical support and superb backing vocals. Per usual, there are no egos here, everything is in service to the song. In both the writing and the performance, Pau perfectly captures the spiraling helplessness and self loathing as substance abuse chokes the life out of all other relationships. She had that gritty texture even back then and it adds an exquisite layer of desperation and pain to the live version.
Good luck in your recovery Jay. I'm 64 and been sober over 25 years and don't miss it one bit. It can be done my friend.
@@richardmartinez2969 Thank you. It’s been almost 30 years, with a short fall off the wagon at ~ 10 year mark. Been sober for the last 20 though. So far, so good. Kudos to you as well! Regardless, this song wrecks me. These ladies move me like no others. So glad I rediscovered them recently.
Its hard to believe that in 2015, a 13 year old girl composed this song that moves listeners, who focus on lyrics, to tears. Such is the melancholy of her poetry. Such is the pathos in her delivery. So I urge you once again to review lyrics when reacting to The Warning to complete your experience.
Black Holes: Singing as an addict Pau shuns away her loved ones so as not to cause them further harm. The opening verse itself is stunning in terms of maturity as a poet at such an young age.
"All alone in an alleyway
Staring at my face
In the reflections of broken bottles
Didn't know I had this many scars
I thought I'd won
All of my different battles"
The phrase "broken bottles" tells us that this is about alcoholism. Pau added the word "reflections" to hint at introspection by the addict.
There are 2 stories behind this song. First - she wrote it after reading about alcoholism in an article. Second - she wrote it when a close friend of the family succumbed to addiction. Regardless of its foundation Black Holes is a classic for The Warning fans.
Recently they gave 3 full production concerts in Mexico to celebrate first 10 years of being a band. In the 2nd concert at their hometown of Monterrey, Pau sang Black Holes accompanied by a string orchestra followed by the 3rd one in Mexico City where 8000+ fans joined her.

Nice Reaction! This song is about addiction and Pau sings it from the viewpoint of the addict. She is supposed to have written this song when she was 13 yrs. old. Can you imagine a 13 yr. old writing such deep lyrics about this subject? Truly amazing!
This song gives me chills, especially with Dany's powerful backing vocal near the end before all three of them sing together.

Such a sad and emotional song. Pau apologized to the fans after for smiling during this song. She was just so excited that the audience knew all the words to her song. Great song!
One of Pau's best lyrics on the difficult topic of addictions that she masterfully treated in an empathetic and very sensitive way. The music is not really complicated and is immediately attractive, as is characteristic of The Warning. With great work on the piano and voice by Pau (moving is one of Pau's superpowers), very well accompanied by Ale and Dany who does a very fine job on the guitar and voice, but for me, what makes this song great is its lyrics.
FYI, all three ladies learned classical piano first. Most TW songs start as piano jingle before the sisters rockify it.
I think Pau has somehow accessed a portion of the brain that normal people cant access.
Its know that we use a very small % of our brains capabilities.
Shes just brilliant.
From watching some blogs it seems Pua is the backbone in writing the songs and then presents what she has written to the two sisters and together they build off the lyrics work as a unit to come to the finished product.
...and Pau composes it on the piano as a ballad. The three then turn it into a rock number, or not. That's why Pau is also a good piano player.
It is just wonderful how this band can take you from the most fiercest and empowering rock song all the way to the most sublime and intimate ballad.

Of all the different song about addiction in the world this one hits hardest.
You should also do "show me the light" at the same show. Dany's guitar solo is like you never heard before.
Her very best solo IMO.
IMO, the line "Even Black Holes let Me Be" captures the meaning of this song.
I love this song and especially this performance of the song. I love hearing Pau's voice crack with emotion, and how Dany and Ale support the song without taking away from Pau and the piano.

This is an amazing song. It's a sad song. Pau wrote this after reading an article about a local alcoholic. If you listen to lyrics, it brings sad emotions from people. For them to feel this at their age. Demi Gods!

They're so talented in playing their instruments and in song writing as well as stage presence.. and their vocal performances. The range of emotions Pau and Dany are able to convey through their voices and facial expressions is amazing. I think Pau could sing the phone book like this and still make me cry. lol
This song has sad lyrics but the reason Pau smiles in the beginning of the song is because she notices that the audience is singing along with her. This song and Breathe are real tearpullers. Pau said she would never sing Breathe Live, but she did in front of a audience of 8000 in Mexico at The Pepsi Center and there is a fantastic edit of that performance here. ua-cam.com/video/h1KJkAZbcOM/v-deo.html . This song hits me every time. Addiction no matter what it is takes a toll. You loose a little bit of your soul everyday untill there's nothing left. Been sober for 5 years.

Pau performed this song with a string orchestra in Mexico City last October. Only fancam videos are available. But worth watching as it is front of about 8000 more fans than this performance and very emotional.

The best sound and video I have seen is from a The Warning fan on the channel alita. There are several on that channel that are composed of very good compilations from multiple fan cams.

This is an early glimpse of Paulina's raw talent, there are several more ballads from these three young Ladies. Escape the mind is an even earlier example. And to think she was only 13 when she wrote 'Black Holes'... A song about alcohol addiction!!!

Ladies thanks for your reaction. Pau demonstrates incredible maturity, writing this emotional song from the perspective of a drug addict, when she was just 13 years old. While Dany has a awesome powerful rock vocal, Pau's vocals are more soulful and therefore more emotional.
If they sang about the phone book, I would be just as fascinated as I am with all of their other songs 😍

This is one of TW early songs - obviously - and the think the writing is a littly clumsy to begin with, words piling on top of each.
But . . .
It's powerful and beautiful and horrible all at once. A scarred young woman, wracked with self-loathing, pushing away those who love her less she drag them down with her. I've said this elsewhere; don't let go is sad, don't hold on is heartbreaking.
And the last part where Dany & Ale join in harmony, that's magical.
