  • Many are criticizing Sheriff Mike Williams’ move out of Jacksonville to Nassau County, and on Monday he responded to that.

    He didn't tell anyone because he knew he was breaking the law. He said he not would not resign, he shouldn't have the option to resign he already quit when he moved. Time to elect someone new that lives in the county.

      You would lose 1/3 of the counties work force , this is an antiquated rule that has been used as a weapon to select employees and not others .
      The police chief can do everything in his job description , from a laptop in China, his physical presence is rarely required.

    It just shows law enforcement doesn’t care about doing the right thing. I don’t think it’s a big deal for THE SHERIFF to live in the community he serves. He didn’t tell anyone because he knew it was shady.

      Pretty sure he was officially retired from the sheriff's office once he was elected. His retirement/pension is paid to him for his job as an employee of the COJ/JSO not as a elected official. Two different things for 2 different jobs. Same thing for some who worked for the COJ, retired then ran for and won a seat on the Jacksonville city council.

      He's not " playing ignorant ", instead of getting a clear opinion from the city attorney as to the legality of his change of residence, he took it upon himself to interpret the law. Strange, 99.9% of the rest of county employees had a different interpretation of the applicable law(s).

    That's bull. Something happened but people are scared to say something. Usually when a Cheif or high ranked officer does something , they move and work in a different county. Something stinks and I had a bad feeling about this. We will never know unless it gets exposed.

Unfortunately, we now live in a world where our mostly republican law enforcement thinks the law does not matter to them and they can do whatever they want and we the citizens have to pay for it sometimes with our children's lives..

    If there is a major incident at the southern border to St. Johns County it is an hour drive to get there from the southern Nassau county line or at least 45 minutes as a code response to get there all the while endangering the citizens he has sworn to protect.

    Yep, I've been there, in Jax, and I don't blame him. It sucks, the people are nasty, bitter and horrible examples of what Florida is usually about! Too many outsiders have invaded it for 40+years!

      I agree I have been her 40 years WE HELP build Jacksonville- however. This about the LAW!! his KNOWLEDGE of that LAW, And abiding by it as he has the citizens of Duval to do!!
      He did not tell cause he knew he would have to step down instead he got paid by the people 1 full year he owes US back!!

    I gave a thumbs 👍 4 only 1 reason..
    I'm from the Bronx ny and I've seen shady things in law enforcement, especially by guliani but the sheriff violating its own laws is no difference than any law being violated from within its own. Accountability.
    Aside the Oscar's slap where **MANY** Leo's witnessed an assault and *none did anything in arresting smith by own witnessing, imagine that !!.. State wide replacements all across the board.

      It's an old antiquated rule, from the time before cellphones and laptops, he could accomplish all of his duties from a laptop,,, on China , it would really make no difference .

    Depending on where in Nassau he's technically closer to more of Jax than if he was in Southern border at St Johns line. Idk it's a meh issue being overblown given the metropolitan area unless he's unable to do his job properly

    Boy the money must be really good. He knew something was wrong about the move cause it was hush, hush for a year. Surely you don't expect HIM to agree that he did something wrong. A good man wouldn't have done this. Stop giving credit where it's not due. Seems criminal. Seems he would have checked the legality of that move before he did it.

    It has nothing to do with being a good man, dedication to the people this is follow the rules. And additional he should have to pay- Duval people their funds back for 1 year. JSO do not pay for my gas why am I paying for his way to work? Alot of issues is wrong - with this. He knows the LAW HE DID NOT TELL CAUSE HE KNOW he has to STEP DOWN.     I think if you going to be a Law-Enforcement officers I think you should live in the county that you work in because you take home a car the tax payer is paying for the gas to take to a other county and that not right

    In this day and age , we do most everything over the phone or from a laptop , it doesn't matter where this man may is physically , he can do everything his job requires , from anywhere in the country .
    This is an old antiquated rule .
    ( we don't ride horses to work and can communicate with anyone in the world using the cellphone in our pocket.
    There's no reason to keep antiquated rules on the books that only remind people of how far the human race has come in the last 50 years ..
    ( who cares where he lives , it doesn't impact his efficiency at all , he's not required to do anything physical so his physical presence isn't really required..lol.

      We have 4 to 5 killings a day watch the news in the 5 AM - 6AM it will be added to. That is not 5 stars to me.
      I suggested the National Guard to help with a curfew when gangs moved to Jacksonville during and after the storm 2010!
      Look what we have now killings - territory land they do not own but rule!!

    If the city wants control over law enforcement that they need to create their own municipal Police department the sheriff can only be relieved by the governor in the state of Florida and the city has no authority over the sheriff because the sheriff is a constitutional elected official

      He moved to another county, he works for the people of Duval. Our city is very rich, and THE LAW says LIVE HERE, to protect the people!! Simple be on call- THE LAW says this.
      Now he is in LAW, it is his profession shall we say!! Now he breaks the LAW. and he is aware. Like you and I when we speed but we do!! If caught we pay fines I assure you JSO will give you a ticket...
      So now why stayed quiet?
      So now why he purchased a home in another county knowing the LAW?
      So now why he did not announce his house warming ?
      Simply he was aware-
      Cost back to the city
      Set down and his record is clean well next run in your new county RUN
      BUT FOR NOW IT IS CLEAR
      LEAVE PAY BACK NOT NECESSARY IN THAT ORDER!!

    Probably Town commander just rent a small efficient in the city, change his address and keeping rowing the boat.
    Note: Then he could see for a roommate to keep the efficiency in good shape meanwhile he only pays half of the rent and haven't to do the cleaning. Just another business in town.😂🤣🤣

      However his decision of moving his family ID perfectly ok however his decision has a lot to do with his character!! His awareness to follow policy better yet THE LAW!!
