Will wonders never cease. Van and Mark play dueling Gibson Les Pauls on a Bill Monroe signature song more in line with the original blues. Ain't the Internet great. Virtually nobody would have witnessed this treat otherwise. You say how could it get better and then it does.
Van Morrison has been a great inspirator for me and for other people who write and play their own music. Most people don't do that and play covers. It didn't ever get me anywhere, but I always did my own music since age 14. And this vid shows something that I never knew before. What a nice person Mark Knopfler realy is. They also seem to have discovered Gibson has been making some high grade LP's again since 2013 (from what I've seen). Great vid. Thanks!
Some people are comparing Van and Mark they are both in their own right it's WONDERFUL just see and hear the Awesome Men play together they are very well put together🫶❤️✌️🫶❤️✌️
knopfler es una caja de sorpresas, geniales!! Dos MAESTROS compartiendo LA ALEGRÍA Y SU AMOR A LA MÚSICA. Gracias maestro por esta oportunidad de ver juntos a dos representantes del mejor rock.
If you like this version have listen to Van playing it with Lonnie Donegan and Chris Barber taken from the Album Skiffle Session live in Belfast. Lonnie recorded this originally in the 1950’s.
I’ve probably mixed up Wyman and Woods earlier. And V reminded me, and she is correct, where I saw Guernica was the gallery next door to the Prado. I was in both. V has been to Rome twice. Said I was just scared to go. In case I saw Rome and died. We were watching oul Pope Frankie on the TV from Rome. Told her I had some groovy pics of Tommy on the Spanish steps and at the Trevi Foundation. When he was 81/82. Damian met him there.
Almost didn’t recognise Knopfler. Don’t know why I thought he might look as he did when I saw Dire Straits in Belfast maybe 77/88. Sultans of Swing days.
É sério q é o 80o. aniversario do Bill Wyman? Não sabia q ele era tao velho. E por que ele nao aparece no video? Que pessima filmagem. Uma camera so o tempo todo e muito mal usada. Qualidade de som muito ruim principalmente no microfone do Van.
I love seeing and listening to these men working together. Thanks, Mark and Van, and sofarawayparis, for putting this up!

Took me a bit to figure it out; the tune is
MULE SKINNER BLUES
Susan Davidson yeah, couldn’t believe it. It’s Bill Monroe’s “New Mule Skinner Blues”. Not many know of such a regional song.

Is that Eric Clapton that appears @ 2:47? I think it is!!!
Hey! That's MY birthday!
Happy Birthday then ! 🥳
Is that EWric Clapton at the back?
Told her I’d been to a number of Italian places including Verona. Let’s forget Verona.
What is it.
Van Morrison is good but Mark Knopfler is on another level talent wise.
@ripoff3 maybe because It was a suprise?
I wonder why they didn't set up the mics before Mark introduced Van!!
Hundestedroervig
ripoff3 You have GOT to be Jewish. Always complaining and focusing on the negative.
Tony S, the wording of your comment is a shame. An intolerable whiff of antisemitism.
ripoff3 p
I think this was a Jimmy Rodgers song way back in the day
Sorry typos…. Fountain!!!
Finger picking, singer spitting blues.
😂👍fingerlicking spit. You noticed it. Haha. Me too
It's the money for nothing and your kicks for the free scenario ! ..

Old Bill was probably out metal detecting
Van needed to blow his nose. Felt bad for Mark lol.
The only way that could be improved would be if Micheal Ball popped in for a Duet .
Is he Fing his head off or am I imagining it! Don’t answer!
Looks like poor Mark got quite a shower from old Van!!
a shower?
Van seems to spray out saliva when he sings, no offense meant!
@@ripoff3 I went back and watched the video closely when Van is singing....and you are correct!😁 No matter tho....love, love Van the Man!!
Whats the songs name?
The Mule Skinners Cock.
Wayman?
My first thought, too. I can only assume it's Wyman.
djf750 It's his 80th Birthday Gala hon 😉
I've seen a lot of bands in northern Ontario bars play just as well or better.
so what?
Stop watching then ...
Heeyyt bee şu mark'ı ve Vanı ölmeden yakalamak lazım...aman aman Allah gecinden versin
Or before we go before them
:D
As for me...they're just nothing to rory Gallagher.
sounds like a school-band...
