  • This video reviews an example problem for the design of a reinforced rectangular column. It shows the design of the longitudinal and transverse steel and also the use of the non-dimensional interaction diagram. This video will be helpful for people trying to design reinforced concrete columns and also evaluate their performance in practice.

    Thank you.
    I've graduated almost 12 years ago and since then I've used the Etabs to calculate concrete structures, after watching this video my knowledge of concrete designing on paper, completely refreshed.

    But what about the interaction diagram when f'c is not 4ksi i.e. if the interaction diagram doesn't follow my desired f'c

    Just started listening to you. I'm new to concrete, but a good math background, and I'm writing a program to analyze punching shear using ACI design codes. Do you have one?

    Great Channel Tyler, Loving the content. Can you upload a video on THE USE OF CRUMB RUBBER AS AGGREGATE AS AN AGGREGATE IN CONCRETE?

    • @TylerLey
      @TylerLey  4 роки тому +3

      Thank you! I don't have a lot of experience with crumb rubber use in concrete. I know there is some research on it and the material gives concrete some very cool properties like being able to absorb kinetic energy but it also makes it very hard to use admixtures with it because of the chemicals from the rubber. This has made it very hard for people to use in practice.

    I thought that quoting the Aci item numbers might be good, but it seems that your method is more effective. One can always look for code oneself.

    Hi Tyler, I love your videos. May I ask what is the minimum outside edge thickness that is needed to cover the rebar, ie. from the outside edge of rebar to outside edge of concrete. PS. I need to make 4in x 4in posts about 8ft tall and am thinking of placing 4 rebars, one in each corner.

      Joe - This is called cover. It depends on where your element is out. Most people recommend 2" cover for external concrete. What are they supporting? You may want to watch this video:

    All of your videos are great, you could be even more popular in metric system countries, I study engineering but can't always watch your videos and pause them to make conversions.. It gets boring even when what you're teaching is interesting, but your passion makes me passionate ahah, love from Italy

      Agree! Need metric videos... or maybe pop up boxes with metric equivalents so we can just read those which could be a good compromise

      Thanks! I have a lot of videos in both english and metric units but I created these example problems for my class and all the units are in english because that is what we use in the US.
