As an attractive woman, I learned over time that the sheer mental and emotional labor of vetting men to figure out whether they were genuinely interested in ME or only looking to use me as a trophy to increase their own status was simply not worth it. I opted out of ever seeking relationships and stayed off of dating sites. Thus the only relationships I've been in are the ones that came right into my path, and started as solid friendships first. I will never respect a man that lies to women to get them into bed-- EVEN if he were to (snort) "change his ways" after "falling in love" with me. Then you have the ones that prey on attractive, independent women for the sole purpose of ruining our lives. They are also persona non grata in my world. Since men seem to love being predatory especially around very attractive women, I would rather spend the rest of my life alone than with a man that only wants me for my looks. I suspect that's why a lot of beautiful women are single. Men have ruined dating so bad that many of us are just opting out altogether.

Sort of. I am Native American (Apache) 6'1" and 220+ lbs with the size of a football linebacker. In the dating world, it has been a positive factor in some cases. But there still are clusters of racism such that white women are scared of a "big Apache". Size doesn't help if the person is racist - it can make them more afraid or uncomfortable at the sight of us. In those cases, I feel like they would be more comfortable if I were 5'6" and thin. So, there's a mix of responses - sometimes positive and some negative.

I think pretty privilege is probably more pronounced if you’re in a job/social situation where being pretty is important like if you wanna be an influencer or work in fashion but not so much when you’re in stem etc

Yes! When I was a postdoc, I had an undergrad honors student who was stunningly beautiful with long blonde hair, lovely eyes and great fashion sense. She was also brilliant and hardworking, but I was apparently the first person to take her ideas seriously. If she was giving a talk, she’d wear glasses with non-prescription lenses to look more “intellectual,” and people treated her better. I think a lot of people mistakenly assume that women can’t be attractive and smart. I think I usually look good but not as good as this woman, so I had empathy for her.

Beauty standards aren't universal. The most beautiful girl in the US might not be that appealing in South Korea or Japan.
Most people have a broad spectrum of what attractive is (no one goona rate Rosanne Barr over Kim Kardashian) and moving countries for validation arguably a bit extreme.
@@tomhiggins6542 I don't expect people to pack their bags and relocate. Beauty standards do vary across the world. Beauty standards differ from one culture to another as well. Black guys are often attracted to women white guys aren't attracted to. Asians tend to prefer women who are very thin. That doesn't appeal to everybody. Blacks and Latinos tend to like a little more meat. What white men like depends more on the region they're from. Often times there are historical reasons for this. A lot boils down to what's being pushed by the media.

They’re really basic pretty girls that gets attention and mostly likely show skin/ a bit more provocative. (Sometimes even 1st tier or whatever). Model pretty is it’s own thing in my opinion. They have those wow, unique, harder to obtain features. Atleast for the standards that have been put in this society.

Well, there is also pretty privilege for men. I just recently experienced it. At my haircutter is a good looking man. He is also on the advertisment picture in front of the shop. He messed up my hair. My husband also got a terrible haircut from him. He is a nice guy, but just not good in his job ... i think they keep him just to attract new customers. Anyway, we still go there, but we let our hair cut by another person
The worst thing is when a handsome or pretty person becomes ugly when they start to talk. It is unbecoming...! Beauty/brawn with confidence (not arrogance) and intelligence can be alluring
When they are nice and have good personalities it can be intoxicating to people though and they can end up getting too much attention which can turn into stalking/harassment/bullying. I think a lot of really goodlooking people develop “bad” personalities as a defense mechanism.

Most of the time good looks decline over the years those that depend on their physical attraction must accept that it is a temporal advantage - like an athlete whose prime days are over - an pretty idol singer will eventually have to step aside from the center stage for younger pretty talented idols.

Pretty privilege has always been apparent to me, but I have a knack for recognizing patterns of behavior and patterns or trends in society. For me personally though, I don’t put physically attractive people on a pedestal. I value personality, intellect & empathy more. It’s nice though when a woman has a good balance between all 3. Although it’s towards the bottom of my list, being physically attractive does help though.

There's pros and cons in having pretty privileged. You get things for free, yes. But they're not really free when plp always expect something else in return. You can know a lot of plp socially but how many of them are truly your friends? Pretty plp may seems confident on the outside but they can be the most insecure on the inside.

And have all the skills and education on the things that will be either useful long-term (technology) and other things that I'm fascinated by/enjoy as opposed to little to no skills & relying on looks.

You don't necessarily have to be good looking to receive good treatment. Dressing well, being well groomed, having decent social skills and having good hygiene goes a long way.

When u are not good looking many shallow people will despise you, hate you, and treat you poorly. Being ugly can be lonely and for those who cannot adapt to the loneliness -stressful too. Those that like the less attractive will like them for their personality, actions/behavior, or for things they have or control access to. A sociopath manipulates others to create a world order. A psychopath manipulates others to establish a personal lifestyle.
Then a lot of times when you are good looking, people will also despise you, hate you, and treat you poorly. People are dirtbags and you can't put it past someone to be a POS whether they're good looking or ugly.

The prettier you are the more privilege you have. Duh! The richer you are the more privilege you have. A 10 has advantages a 7 doesn't. Again, that's obvious. I love you guys. Very realistic sometimes funny practical advice for guys who are a bit lost like myself.
I am from Generation X. The woman who narrated the categories is indeed pretty, but she looks like she had those injections with the protruding lips. A lot of young women who don't even need plastic surgery are getting those implants which actually don't help the appearance. As a biomedical engineer, I also know such injections have side effects that can lead to adverse events. In my youth, plastic surgery was rare. See the "Pans People" of the 1970s and compare them to today's influencers who get those injections. The difference is obvious. I prefer the "old school natural beauty".
As an older guy, I can point out that the "9s" and "10s" from the 80s and early 90s have been largely ignored as of about 2010. Youthful beauty is fleeting. I recall the heyday of Carol Alt, Kim Basinger, Rachel Hunter, Kathy Ireland, Cheryl Tiegs, etc. Generation Z likely has never heard of some of them. But there was a time when their youthful beauty got massive attention. It just doesn't last. Moreover, they can still get divorced. Rachel got stood up badly on the way to her planned 2nd marriage when she was middle aged.
So, it would seem more pragmatic to rely on long-term skills like business acumen, STEM fields, etc. rather than "pretty privilege" which only lasts into about the early 30s or so. Kathy Ireland aged tremendously, but she has tremendous talent as a businesswoman and continues to thrive in her career outside of modeling which ended decades ago.
As for aging, there are women who age slowly but that is exceptional. I know one fitness influencer who still looks a lot like she did in 2003. But that is rare. Pick any ten random "influencers" and check back in about 25 years to see how they age. The "pretty privilege" is very short-term if it does indeed exist for the person.
She’s a 6, then 8, then 10 Model Tier. Usually 10s hold their looks if they don’t get sick or gain weight.
Men need to get in better shape to add 2 points.

I think the beauty privilege is nothing compared to the personality or smart privilege, ultimately, the most popular people are the ones who are interesting and smart.

A few of the really exceptional 7-9s that have self-confidence or Overt narcissism to the point of charisma are taken for 10s. Confidence makes one more attractive, but charisma is a red flag, one should immediately check for narcissism.
Yeah but being pretty comes with downsides. I'm not jealous either way. You get the cards you are dealt with. I've seen women get jealous, men get mad because she turned him down etc.

I mean what she said is pretty accurate, but personality is also huge. One of my old close friends is now a very famous influencer and a millionaire, but almost everyone in our hometown doesn't like her because she had such a rotten personality (hence why we aren't friends anymore). She isn't really able to keep many friends because she uses people and cheated on her boyfriend a lot of times. So yeah.
To those ugly/average people like me, let me tell you what I've learned about dating now that I'm older: Dating extremely attractive people isn't worth it if you value peace and mental health. Most of us are better off dating people who are 5s with a great personality.
When I was still young, I used to be so envious of my good-looking, tall and rich cousin who was constantly dating women who were between 7 and 8s. Meanwhile, I was stuck dating 4-6s -- with me walking on eggshells with 6s.
But one day in my early 20s, I finally got the chance to date a 7. And you know what happened? It was a complete nightmare because:
1. She was used to men doing 90% of the effort for her (so yeah, you can just imagine how "appreciative" and "cooperative" she was)
2. She would be constantly hit on in public regardless if I'm there or not
3. She has exes that would try to sneak back with her under the guise of being friends and try to find dirt on me
4. She has "male friends" who are just waiting for the chance to sleep or get into a relationship with her
To be fair, it was also my first time dating a 7 so I got overwhelmed about the reality that extremely attractive people were living. I didn't expect it to be so "colorful" that I wasn't able to be a proper BF for her.
However, later in life, after being more established in life, I tried dating 7s and above once again who were in their late 20s and up. However, it turned out to be the same shit or drama all over again.
So again, to those ugly/average people like me, trust me, we're better off dating people who are 5s with a great personality if you value peace and mental health.
And those people who are legit 7s and above that you're attracted to? Just look at them from afar, but never get involved with them. It's really not worth it, even if it's just for "fling" purposes. You're literally better off hiring a very expensive and attractive male/female escort for a week because at least they would treat you nice because you're a customer.

If you are legitimately beautiful, the world treats you completely differently.
I had it and didn’t realize it until I got depressed and gained weight. The world became 100x easier to navigate once I got back in the gym and dropped the weight. It takes time for people to get beyond the exterior and appreciate ppl for who they are inside. And some won’t ever care to do so if they don’t like what’s on the outside.
Psychopath is in the DSM. Sociopath is no longer in use. Actually, psychopath isn't either. its called aspd. Anti Social Personality Disorder. You are not 'officially' diagnosed with psychopathy, but the word might still be in use.
I got pretty priv even when I was fat. The difference after I lost weight is actual insanity. I do nothing for my looks-- ie I don't wear makeup, I don't do shit for my hair, no fashion, etc and I still get pretty privilege for just existing. You're not allowed to say or acknowledge this bc you're horrible vain person if you do. I have modeled, have been in a few commercials (like for Gap). Pretty Priv exists for sure and I know I'm about to enter another era of it, like you mentioned -- entering a space of older guys and suddenly I'm going to be the young hot thing at 37.

A very important detail that her explanation lacks is the role of gender. Pretty privilege is obviously a real thing, but it's not symmetrical for both men and women. A woman could be average or even below average in looks but still be more privileged than an attractive guy. To put this into perspective, a mediocre woman with no status has the same sexual pull as an A-list male celebrity.
If "all women are beautiful," then no women are beautiful, because the word no longer has meaning. For people to be considered beautiful, there must be those who are ugly, otherwise there's no hierarchical differentiation.

I’m glad I’m in the “entry level” pretty privilege. Because I still work super hard and have a lot of ambition towards my goals that are completely unrelated to my looks. I don’t have that level of pull to make my looks a lifestyle. Maybe if I posted pictures of my body on the internet but still im very fit but still have a normal body type. so... I think if you're the biggest fish in a small pond, you're limiting yourself. If you're a small fish in a big pond, there will be more out there, more space to grow, and the only direction to go if you're at the bottom is up. But I guess it really depends on the individual.
For example, the question of choosing to be the top 1% pretty as an engineer or bottom % as a model? I think it depends. If you want to be doted on and love the attention and are not seeking to improve your attractiveness, stick to surrounding yourself with the nerds. If you're trying to make a career out of how attractive you are, then being an engineer doesn't make sense.
Personally, I guess how I see it is this way for the pretty aspect: on a basic scale compared to the rest of the world, let's say I'm a 7. As a 7 of the world, if you then put me with the engineers, they would see me as a 10. Put me with the models, and I'm a 5. But if I'm around the models and climb my way to becoming an 8 in model land, this would then mean I reach the status of a 9 or 10 compared to the rest of the world, and I'd be god tier pretty if you throw me back in with the engineers.
So I think it just matters on what you personally value and are looking to get out of it. If I would like the benefits of pretty privilege, a stable income, and be a contribution to society, then I would be an engineer. If I would like to be photographed as one of Gigi Hadid's besties, then I would go the modeling route.

I don't want to brag, but I'm definitely in the middle with the three levels. Despite having Bob length hair and a bit of acne, my number gets asked frequently, I've had men offering me free things, Invitations of random store owners to go to some parties, I've even had a fucking guy with his girlfriend wink at me when he was checking out when I was at the counter. He did it sneakily with his other eye so his gf wouldn't see. I often have dudes obsess over me, when I'm clearly emotionally unavailable and I've told them about it. Most people often don't put effort to get to know me and get scared away when they do, because they've put me on this pedestal. I have a pretty quirky and chaotic and big personality and I should feel more shame, because I'm a literal careless clown. I don't hurt people though with my humor. I've just had a rough past and my humor is pretty dark.
Having pretty privilege is also kinda dangerous, because it makes you really vulnerable to rape, which happend when I was an really insecure, depressed teen. So being ugly can have it pro's, like people valuing you for your personality and you don't need to wean off freaks and you're less likely to get raped or harassed.

I do have to say it’s a bit too much to only treat someone better just bc they look attractive versus someone who doesn’t appear as “attractive.”

I'm not religious and I do agree with you. That's why I treat everyone equal. Also my girl likes to dress up and I like to dress down. She does ask me to dress nicely at times and I don't have a problem with that. When someone causes problems because of how they want the other to look, that's when there's real problems. My girl communicated how it would make her feel and I was happy to make her happy. I'm not the best looking so dressing up nicely does help my confidence.
