We kick off the show by deep diving into a day that changed the course of U.S. history: November 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas, TX in a motorcade by Lee Harvey Oswald... or so the story goes. In this segment, Jared hopes to get to the bottom of what REALLY happened on that shocking Friday afternoon. We visit The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, among many landmarks related to this infamous event, and Jared even takes a drive in a replica of the 1961 Lincoln Continental Presidential Limousine, down the exact road where the assassination took place during the motorcade. Along the way, hear various viewpoints and conspiracies about how the timeline of JFK's death played out from the likes of Nicola Longford (Chief Executive Officer, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza), Robin Brown (JFK Custom Tours), Patricia Puckett-Hall (Owner, Oswald Rooming House Museum), and Chris Gardner (Manager, Texas Theatre). Ultimately, on his quest for clarity, Jared hopes to get to the bottom of one of history's notorious crimes and debated topics: Who shot JFK?
Next up: We switch gears and saddle up for a visit to a ranch with Damon Leffall, CEO and founder of Hip Hop Cowboy & Heritage Rodeo. Damon walks us through the history of Black cowboys in America and how the rodeo became a staple in the United States, and specifically Dallas culture. Then, Jared takes a trip over to The Heritage Rodeo, an event hosted by Damon that was inspired by the original Black cowboys, who were responsible for leading herds from one location to another. Jared experiences the rodeo (an event that mixes tradition with entertainment) firsthand, and even gets a chance to interact with Carolyn Carter, an equestrian and rodeo champion, and Craig Jackson, one of the first Black American bull-riding champions.
Where are we off to next? Yep, it's that time of year again…the annual Texas State Fair, which just happens to be one of the oldest and largest fairs in the nation! Enjoy an authentic taste of the Lone Star state with celebrity chef Tiffany Derry and Jared, who take on challenging fair games as they sample delicious food and discuss Texas's most beloved annual tradition. Don’t miss out on the enormous tender turkey legs, the super sweet Cha-Cha Chata (a dessert drink with Bluebell ice-cream in it), and the Crispy Crazy Corn! As Jared and Tiffany wrap up, join them as they take a ride to the top of the Ferris Wheel and reminisce about how amazing their experience was.
Last but certainly not least, join Jared as he makes his way towards community leader Dr. Opal Lee's residence to hear her share her inspirational story about the official making and signing of the federal holiday Juneteenth. She offers her perspective on what it was like to grow up in Dallas at the time, the impact I.M Terrell High School had on her, and her experience at the White House for the federal holiday signing! Then, watch as Dr. Lee leads the city's 2.5 mile walk each year in honor of the time, patience, grit, and dedication it took in order to create this empowering historical moment.
