"When I look at that tape, I can't help but think how great she was and how young I looked." - Steve Martin
"Gilda, we miss you." - Steve Martin and all the rest of us
I remember that clip, Steve really had to hold it together, you could tell he really loved her
Gilda Radner is still my favorite NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME PLAYER. DId you know she was the first cast? If you get a second check out my tribute on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Truly perfect! Thank you, forever ❤
@@jennifersman7990 do you know where I can find that clip?
This is an absolute classic. One of her most memorable. So amazing how they mixed silliness and slapstick with some real grace and dancing skill. Gilda's physical comedy was the best. Her loss is still felt. 💔
There was something so special about SNL back in those days. They were breaking new ground & experimented quite a bit. This was one of those golden moments... Such a fantastic blend of endearment & humor with Steve Martin & Gilda Radner. Gilda, we still miss you so very much...
Your comment is true. Gilda was totally an inspiration to me. Steve Martin also. Check out my tribute to Gilda if you get a chance. Steve Martin not having at least one star on the Walk of Fame is sad. He should have 4 for sure! You can bet I will do a tribute to him if he gets one. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
SNL replayed this the day Gilda died. Steve hosted the show. He just said, "we miss you Gilda." A touching tribute. For those old enough to have grown up with SNL from the beginning, her death was really sad.
I saw it that night. Steve was fighting back tears when he introduced the clip.
@@kurtb8474 I remember that too. I was hoping to find that monologue.
It sincerely was. I remember when she guest starred on Garry Shandling show. He asked her, "Well..how are you Gilda?" and she didn't miss a beat by answering, "I have cancer!"...but the way it was done was SO FUNNY! Sad to say, Gary suffered the same cancer death fate later in time.
every single Saturday was a Not Ready for Prime Time Players Saturday 2 comic geniuses that people today would not "GET"
I remember watching SNL as a small kid in the 1970s; my late mother used to let me stay up to watch it. I'm so grateful for her to let me...
Wow, what a sweet sketch. Like no pithy dialogue, no jokes at someone's expense, just a lovely moment shared between two people that is also somehow hilarious.
It really is a gem. Check out my tribute to Gilda Radner if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
No diversity though. We must have diversity equity and inclusion in every aspect of our lives. Sarcasm 😆
@@anthonythomas6593the only person obsessed with diversity here seems to be you 😬
In less than four minutes that dance goes from elegant to silly and back more than ten times. THAT is talent. Miss this level of SNL.
The silliest, saddest, most wonderful thing SNL ever did.
So true Adam. It gives me chills everytime..
It is the definition of silly fun. So sad that Steve Martin does not have at least 3 stars on the Walk of Fame. Gilda has a star and I did a tribute to her on my channel. Check it out. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
I can't help but cry a little while watching this. The world will forever miss you Gilda. You were one of the most funniest comedians on earth whose life was cut short way too early. We'll miss you Gilda. I hope you are making everyone in heaven laugh up in that big stage in the sky.
She and Madeliene Kahn. Never got tired watching either one.
gay
Its so telling at how hysterical these two were -- Not a word spoken and still hilarious!
Physical comedy, man. It rocks. Charlie Chaplin. Buster Keaton. Rowan Atkinson. Steve Martin. Gilda Radner. Check out my tribute to Gilda on my channel if you get a tic. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
@@walkoffamewednesdayswithto7237 Don't forget Lucille Ball on that list. :)
@@MIKERUPTION Of course....I mean that was just spit balling! And I did do Lucille Ball on Walk of Fame! Shame on me!
They don't make 'em like Gilda anymore. She's making angels crack up now. 💙
You said it.
They certainly don't! I did a tribute to Gilda on my channel. Check it out if you get a second. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
I saw this sketch in '78 and it was so funny and beautiful that even without viewing it many times since then on video, I would remember it today.
It is perfection without a word.
You actually have to be pretty coordinated to act that un-coordinated. I remember seeing this "live" and laughing my ass off. Fun to see Al Franken and Harry Shearer dancing back there too.
Ha ha ha ha. That is so very true! Well said. Yes....and live. Remeber everyone. It was live. Love that. Check out my tribute to Gilda if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Yes. Comedy is rhythmically getting it wrong. Or riffing it stupid. Fun.
This honestly makes my heart soar, every time I see it. Gilda was such a wonderful person and great actor.
I remember this dance routine with Gilda and Steve as if it were yesterday. They were so perfect together. They were full of life and sunshine. The laughter came easy! Miss you Gilda, rest in peace. Kathryn/Texas
I remember how moved I was by this, when I saw it on original broadcast...it was funny physical humor and a wonderful story, told without words.
So funny. YET so moving. SO well done. I concur. Check out my tribute to Gilda Radner on my channel if you fancy. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Very moving. It's what we all hope for...to turn around and find the one standing there.
Sweet sweet Gilda. Miss her so much.
So was so sweet. And cute. And funny. Funny, funny, funny. Miss her. Check out my tribute on my channel if you get a second. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
This and the one where John Belushi dances on the graves and talks about his old castmates are the two most memorable SNL sketches ever made. Pure, heartbreaking brilliance.
Right!! And the irony of it all - is HE was the first to cross over the SNL bridge!
The Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks dance was pretty good too.
I was feeling sad today, so I decided to look up this particular SNL clip. I laughed, but I also cried.
I was thinking the same thing--when I need a good laugh and a good cry, I watch this.
This is one of my GO TOs when I am feeling blue also. It does make me teary but they are tears mixed with sadness and joy. Check out my tribute to Gilda if you get a tic. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
nobody has ever rocked the white suit like Steve Martin...
Uh, how about Astaire? He was the original.
@@nre4d probably true...before my time.
So wonderful to see this classic again. Long live physical comedy!
I couldn't agree with you more. Steve Martin does not have a star on the Walk of Fame. He deserves three and in my opinion FOUR! But Gilda has one and I did a tribute. Check it out if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
I watched this and truly enjoyed it the night it was broadcast live, but I honestly have to say that I appreciate and enjoy it quite a lot more now.
Then. Now. Forever. Rock on Gilda. I did a tribute to her on my channel. Check it out if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Agreed!

Half elegance, half lunacy, perfection!
So well put. Check out my Gilda tribute on my channel if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
I’ve only ever seen small snippets of this sketch, thanks for releasing it so I can see it in full! It’s so wonderful ☺️
Priceless. Isn't it? Steve Martin should have FOUR stars on the Walk of Fame and he has NONE! But Gilda has a star and I did a tribute to her on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Steve appeared in SNL so often, I thought he was a cast member when I was young.
He wasn't?!?!?
I wish he made more appearances these days
We were ALL young back then🥳😝
He almost felt like a cast member. Along with Buck Henry and Candace Bergen. I cannot believe that Steve does not have a star on the Walk of Fame. But Gilda does and I did a tribute to her. Check it out if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Me too ❤️
This brings back SO many Happy Teenage year Memories! I love her ability to just do about anything she wanted to! RIP Gilda❣️
I always remember this one fondly, especially because of Gilda. Fred and Ginger/Steve and Gilda.
Yes. But it was Fred and Cyd.;)
Fred and Ginger/Steve and Gilda! LOVE IT! Steve Martin does not have a star on the Walk of Fame. So sad. But Gilda does. Check out my episode on Gilda if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
@@KateBolgrien Yup, If I’m not mistaken this routine was inspired by their dance sequence from the 1953 film, “The Bandwagon”.
Glenn Ford & Rita Hayworth or Gene Kelly & Leslie Caron
Two of the all-time greats.
Steve Martin should have FOUR stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But Gilda has one and I did a tribute to her on my channel. Check it out. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Oh sweet mother of mercy!! The talent, the beauty, the fun and the feeling you get with that combination? It’s so rare and SO APPRECIATED! Touches you in so many ways ! Thank you to them both !
It took me a very long time to realize that they must have put a lot of practice into this...
It was perfection.
Ha ha, yes. But I think they left room for improv because it really seems like Gilda is following Steve's lead at some point and is overjoyed at the silliness he is throwing her way. Love this no matter. Steve doesn't have a star on the Walk of Fame but GIlda sure does. Check out my tribute to her if you get a tic. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Fully agree. It takes a lot of dancing skills to make not being able to dance this funny.
@@JLovrak I took one of those ballroom boot camps before my wedding. When I realized how hard it can be just to do a friggin' dip, I developed a lot more respect for stuff like this.
This is a very underrated sketch. It takes a lot skill to spoof Astaire and Rogers and well as they do. So sad that Gilda passed away so young.
Maybe some Rogers in there but this one's really Cyd Charisse and Astaire in The Band Wagon.
@@eddiefallas8582 Yes, you're right! Thanks for this.
Such a beautiful shambly bit.
The greatest 3 minutes in comedy.
I wish SNL was still this laid back, creative, and self indulgent. Back then Lorne would put on whatever seemed interesting instead of worrying whether it would draw in enough laughs. Now the show just feels so much more serious and corporate. You don't get quirky little jewels much anymore.
True. True. True. OH......so true! Check out my Gilda tribute on my channel if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
I think there's some magic in some of the Beck/Mooney sketches, but they're creative and indulgent in a totally different way than this. Papyrus is the type of sketch that makes no sense when described on paper but is hilarious in practice...but I don't know who in the modern cast could quite pull off a bit like this, specifically. I'm not sure anyone since Phil & Jan could.
Not Dirty Dancing, It's The Band Wagon
Magic. Still magic. Timeless.
Better than the Dirty Dancing finale👏
They are both so hilarious. Gilda Radner is a legend and, even now, inspires me as a young comedian :)
Genius! Just a beautiful performance!
A masterclass in pathos. Just beautiful.
Um. Yes!!!! YES! Pathos and beautiful....in comedy. Yes! I couldn't agree more. Check out my Gilda Radner tribute on my channel if you have a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
so slapstick and yet so sweet...
Slapstick can TOTALLY be sweet. We need more of it. Check out my Gilda tribute. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Last night I watched Fred Astair and Cyd Charisse in "Band Wagon" for the first time. Their Dancing in the Dark scene is my favorite part of the movie. I had forgotten about the SNL parody which I had not seen since it first aired in 1978. Thanks for the memories.
I so love this. It's among her best pieces and she had so many brilliant ones.
It really is in the Gilda Top Ten list. And Steve Martin too! I did a tribute to Gilda on my channel, check it out if you get a chance. ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html

Steve Martin and Gilda Radner. Two greats, man. I remember watching this live also! Check out my Gilda tribute....ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
Probably the most poignant skit SNL ever did. And Gilda looked really beautiful in this.
Only matched by La Dolce Gilda.
@@hopsiepike which one was that? I tried looking it up on UA-cam and can't find anything referring to la dolce Gilda.

It's always something!
Absolutely fabulous...and humorous too
IMHO Gilda remains the *funniest and most talented* SNL woman ever. on a par with Steve Martin for her comic prowess... I think this sketch supports my point.
Mine too! She is still my favorite NRFPTP period! ua-cam.com/video/KEGqVRYT-rM/v-deo.html
This scetch says it all. Steve Martin. Ridiculousness and elegance.
Seems like only yesterday. Gilda ; forever young.

It is oddly unforgettable
I was 20 when Gilda died. Watching this, her death remains as heartbreaking now as it was then. What a soul, gone too soon.
"Well what the hell was that?"
It was perfection.❤💔
What a lovely, humorous sketch
Great classic clip. One of my all-time favorites..

Fascinating how Steve Martin looks exactly the same with 33 as he does with 73

A classic.
The talent to be able to dance so flawlessly and be utterly goofy with it is just astounding. Definitely one of the top 5 SNL bits ever. Who choreographed that? They need their praises sung.
Comedy at it's very best!!
Gilda is graceful and funny in this physical sketch. Too young to die at 42 years. RIP Gilda 🕊️

Gilda is a gem!!!!
I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember watching this one particular skit with my former wife one - Saturday - night. Gilda and Steve. Superb.
Greta Gerwig said that this sketch inspired Jo and Lauries dance on the porch in her 2019 adaptation of Little Women, which makes the scene in the movie even more wonderful than it already is 💕
He had grey hair even in 1978...
Legend has it he was born with grey hair.... 🙃
Only he looked good with it

Am endlessly grateful to be able to share this brilliant, poignant sketch. Still laugh through tears.❤😅
Steve Martin and Gene Wilder both loved her so much.
That fall around 1:57 was a little less controlled than they planned... Just makes it funnier
Yes, I caught that. I don’t believe that fall was planned at all. However, she ad libbed a bit to make it funny.
Haven’t watched a whole episode of “current” SNL for a few years now, but if they did anything sweet like this, I’m sure I would’ve heard or seen it.
When I remember Gilda, it’s this clip and that little girl with the crazy imagination.
This makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe. What comedic genius and also physical talent. Gilda was so funny what a tragedy she died so young. I love music parodies but this is maybe the only dance parody I have seen.
That has me in stitches every time I watch it. Too funny.
Absolute positive genius.
Legendary.
Never to be even nearly equalled again.
Its beautiful and hilarious and heart warming all at once
Steve Martin have that skill for everything good actor and comedian .Brillant ! She too as well.
I remember the first time I saw this. It was right after her death in1989. He came on and introduced the clip and he was in tears. Very funny and bittersweet skit.
