They were cowards for not having Lister keep the robot arm. It would have been dope as shit and all they would have had to do is give him a glove terminator-style whenever they didn’t want to do the makeup.
Given that they could talk to Epideme, you'd think they could have come to some kind of compromise. Litster's attempt to talk to him boiled down to: "How about you die instead?" There was nothing in it for Epideme. If he were smarter he could have pointed out that there are only three remaining bipedal organic beings at that point. If Epideme goes through his usual routine, then he's doesn't have much time either. Even his "freezing the body and waiting for a host" isn't going to work, since as far as anyone knows, there are no other hosts. He's screwed. You'd think with all of his accumulated knowledge he could come up with some artificial way of sustaining himself, (Kochanski tricks him with a cadavar arm and a little blood) or, failing that, maybe they could work out some kind of "timeshare". He could spend a few days in Lister, then a few in Kochanski, then some more in the Cat. Constantly cycling between them all, leaving before he does any real damage to any of them.Epideme could just become another member of the crew, a very useful one. On the fly he was able to come up with a way to increase their engine efficiency 300%. Imagine what else he could do for them? There's gotta be a way to work this out.
Ud think they'd have had to tone it down in the first place, if they can make massive leaps forward in repairs, navigation, sciencing and whatever then it'd take a lot of fun outta the series and the rustbucket ship Or maybe if Lister bites cat and transfer Epideme, the virus then encounters the Cat's... unique mind and suddenly Epideme isn't quite as capable as he once was, and stays that way even after jumping to one of the other two again. He gets enraged at this sudden downgrade and blames the crew for it but is kept around for his technical insights since if they die then the body he's in won't get to be put into cryo. Then we could have jokes like, say, him constantly belittling and trying to take revenge on the crew, and his relationship with Kryten as a machine since him being a different kind of parasitic lifeforms to the ones that Kryten already cares for, as well as them both being the science-y ones

iain rickwood The bigger problem with season 7 for me was the lack of Rimmer, with her as a very close second. Season 8 was a universal disaster. Loved all the new Dave episodes though. This seems to be a very standard position that most people take.
Red dwarf went down hill when Kochanski joined the team. Before it was just lads, being lads. I'd put money on the odds that at least 90% of its followers were blokes. Just don't get the same laughs as before. All down to a more diverse cast I guess? But what could be more diverse? A mixed race human, a hologram, a mechanoid and a black cat????
Red dwarf is a love story. Always had been always will be. Pay attention you smeg head. Or are you one of those lonely guys who jerks off all alone watching someone else having sex. You gross loser. Get a life. A sex life.
It was less about “diversity” and more about cast availability and writing problems (one of the main writers/producers left at this stage). It *could* have been brilliant but her character just isn’t written that well. Better writing (more time/experience writing women/not trying to replace lister etc) and it would have been just as good regardless of the presence of a woman. Imo, they talk the character up a lot in the early seasons with how lister thinks of her and then don’t really deliver a character that we imagine lister having a chance with or even liking - unlike the character we get to see in season 1. I guess it’s like this with a lot of shows though… they reach greatness and then spoil themselves for one reason on another.
Let's not forget Holly, a computer who was female in Seasons 3 to 5. I think that made more sense since Holly is a lady's name, no disrespect to Norman Lovett.
I remember seeing this episode shortly after getting my own right hand traumatically amputated. It was a mixture of emotions.
What happened?
I know the feeling. ♥️ Don’t worry. You’re great. 😊
@@mrspinner2588 It was an industrial accident. But I survived and moved on and now have a wonderful family.

Left arm I said that's my right, what kind of navigation officer can't tell left from right
The look on Lister's face when he says that was funny.
must be funny if they can’t even cut those left or right arms since they can’t tell either
@Nimsoft you can just imagine him leaning in with a smug look on his face "oohh Listy" XD
im afraid its been...nine years
All the comrades I've lost.. all the memories I've lost... THEY PLAYED US LIKE A DAMN POT NOODLE!

A bad one!

Sherbet/Platypi-p this entire 2-part episode was created for the single purpose of bringing Norman Lovett back.
Agreed!!
Also, his future echo in S1-E2 had a robot hand.
Missed opportunity there.

have half a juggeling lesson!! lol
great line
i love red dwarf!!!!!!
and that is how yang lost her arm and that was her reaction to her losing her arm...
Huh, Red Dwarf and RWBY. Not a combination I expected to see.
Why did everyone hate kochanski i happened to enjoy it
It just didn’t work with a know-it-all female in amongst a bunch of not so bright men. She came across as being just plain unlikeable.
I thought she was lovely :)
IT UPSET THE DYNAMIC OF THE SHOW
1:17 You can make a remix out of that.
Question: Which arm would you give up: The right arm or the left arm? Hypothetically, I would give up my left arm.
Depends on if you're left or right handed. Me, being right handed, would rather give my left arm up than my right if I had to give up an arm, that is.
Kryten: I have an idea. Mr Michael sir, which hand do you...um...masturbate with?
Me: I'm ambidextrous in that department.
Kryten: Oh dear.
@Stefano Pavone Having no arms isn't the handicap it used to be. Just look at the Black Knight, he lost both arms and didn't give up.

Again, this moves slowly and there's no urgency to the comedy. Red Dwarf had some sharp lines but latterly it just became generic gag/tag
and this is what causes antivaxers
Red Dwarf stopped being funny around season 5 or 6.
