Thank you so much for making this wonderful video showing us these hidden gems in Tohoku! I prefer the less well-known areas of Japan because they feel more authentic and unique than the mass-consumption-focused Tokyo. That's not to say that Tokyo is bad, more that it's only a very narrow aspect of what Japan has to offer. So thank you again for showing us the places off the beaten path in Japan!
My wife and I were in Japan for 3 weeks last year. We spent 10 days in Kyoto, 2 days in Tokyo and the rest in Niigata and Sado island. Rural Japan is so beautiful! We were there in the fall and it was amazing to watch people harvesting rice by hand, fishing in small sail boats with nets and picking amazing fruit from incredibly manicured orchards. It was like traveling back in time to the Meiji era.
I would like to be part of that 1% that visits that area when I travel to Japan =) Very nice people and nice views. Also, congrats on your 81 dish record Angela lol
The grannies at Abolone Festival vere soooooo nice and full of spirit! You hear them talk about how thankful they are for the country's citizen that helped them after 2011.. it makes your heart grow just by listening to them.. so much appreciation to other people... this is Japan's spirit! I just came back from my holiday visiting the Tohoku region - Ichinoseki, zao onsen, yamagata, kaminoyama onsen and ginzan onsen. Very very beautiful with all the snowy scenery and the people there are very helpful even if they do not know english

Tohoku region should be visited by so many more! I was there just one year after the earthquake and tsunami and visited also a few of the towns worst affected by it, and I was struck by how friendly and welcoming the locals were despite all the hardships they were in and I want to go back. Best and most memorable trip I made during my three years studying in Japan.
Just took several weeks to travel through Japan and went pretty much everywhere you just did. I loved it! I don’t speak Japanese so I had a bit of difficulty communicating, but still had a blast! The people were awesome and the sites beautiful. I think I may have enjoyed it so much because there weren’t very many other western tourist around. In a week’s time I probably only ran into about a dozen. Lots of Asian tourist though. Really want to go back. Amazing video! Thank you so much for creating such wonderful content. Aloha
@@TruthAdv I know a little bit of Japanese, but not enough to say I speak it. Google translate helps a lot. At restaurants my go to phrase was always “osusume wa nan desu ka” and whatever they say I just go “ok”. They usually repeat by pointing on the menu, to which I respond “hai”.
This video inspires me even more to learn Japanese. My favorite moments in the video were the charming people you met along the trip, and when I visit, I also want to do as you did and chat with locals! Thank you for this 😗

I've been to Matsushima, Hiraizumi, Sendai, Geibikei and Yamadera. it was amazing!!! and this summer I will go to to Aomori for Nebuta and Akita for Kanto matsuri

I’ve spent more time in Iwate than all the rest of Japan combined in my two trios there. It’s just beautiful... Morioka and Kamaishi are my two home bases. I really love them both. My dream job is to teach at Iwate U one day. I always thought that the “many noodle bowls” (wanko soba) was unique to Hanamaki, just south of Morioka. I’ll have to go to that place you went to. Did you drink any of the hot noodle water? It sounds gross but is good for your stomach. But I recommend taking the trains instead of buses... the trains have a charm that does not exist on the bus lines.

I love Japan and its people and have traveled there several times and have a trip booked in Feb 2020. The Tsunami was devastating to Japan and my heart broke watching it happen.
I spent two weeks solo travelling around Tohoku in Dec 1992/Jan 1993. It was one of the best trips in my two years in Japan. I especially liked Hirosaki, Hiraizumi, Kakunodate.and Aizu-Wakamatsu. Would be great if you could do a video about the northwest coast of Tohoku from Aomori down to Yamagata.

Cant watch anymore Fukushima Tsunami footage anymore without wanting to cry. Gotta do as much as we can to support Northern Japan when the central Government seems too willing to move on. They deserve better. Great Tohoku adventure.

I am planning a trip to Japan in the Fall of 2023 with my youngest child who loves everything Japanese. We both love nature. I just subscribed to your channel. I studied abroad in Morioka almost ten years ago. I went to that same soba shop and my host mom took me to Jodogahama. This was of course before the 2011 disaster. You should go to Akita next :) I lived there for the JET Program. Thank you so much for showing the beauty of Tohoku!

I've thought about teaching English in Japan and tohoku was the place I wanted to be placed. I grew up in the countryside and prefer the idea of living and working in a small rural town or village. Where I could possibly have a modest sized garden to do some gardening and get to know the local people.

I went to Tohoku as a private teacher for a year and then went back on the JET Programme. During my JET interview I specifically said I wanted to go to Iwate and the interviewers cackled and screamed with glee because virtually nobody requests the Newfoundland of Japan. Tohoku is not for wallflowers as your every move will make the papers just because you are different, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and would never have been matched had I lived in a more foreigner dense area.

I currently live in the Tohoku region. Aomori to be exact. It is quite peaceful. Definitely worth a visit.

I used to live in Aomori prefecture for three years, Lake Towada is really beautiful. Definitely recommend going there.

During my JET interview I specifically said I wanted to go to Iwate and the interviewers cackled and screamed with glee because virtually nobody requests the Newfoundland of Japan. Tohoku is not for wallflowers as your every move will make the papers just because you are different, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and would never have been matched had I lived in a more foreigner dense area.
