- A couple of months after celebrating its golden jubilee, the Cauvery Theatre in Bengaluru ended its glorious run. Curtains came down on the iconic single screen, which played several blockbusters for over five decades. The OTT wave and the booming multiplexes had a major impact on the theatre. Bollywood's dismal show in the last couple of years and the delay of big Kannada films caused the closure of the theatre.
What made Cauvery special? Why did celebrities love the hall? What's its legacy? The Hindu finds out.

Very sad , I last saw an avengers movie there in 2019 …the best part was the massive screen and the ultra cheap snacks at the concession stands outside …commercial multiplex chains charge 200% for food and drinks ….

Also, honestly the seats were too old and there was less maintainence. That is why PVR and INOX are preferred over these theatres because of the comfort that they provided. The only positive was cost off the ticket as it was comparatively way cheaper than PVR or INOX.

Bro, the theatre was walking distance from Bashyam circle. It was barely a 10 minute walking distance. I would book an evening show on the go and just reach there in time to enjoy the films.
Even today I want to visit theatres to watch good movies...but its like entering a maze... that's dreadfully discouraging me to...

For the landmass of Karnataka, KFI should be churning a minimum of 1000cr business collectively, just like neighbouring states, but we barely cross 500cr, indie movies in Karnataka are dead, gone are those times where talents like Rakshit, Rishi( kavaludaari ) , Naveen shankar( gultoo ), could make a mark in the box office, despite honest attempts by newcomers like eg, Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy(achar & co), they get barely noticed. poor number of quality movies over the time has culminated to this, a PVR can manage its financials by corporate financial structuring, but single screen are at the loss, kudos to hombale and krg for still believing in this market and investing large sums every year.
Most of the movies are really bad. Top stars like darshan and sudeep imo make garbage movies which only their deluded fans watch. All 3 neighboring states make so many great movies regularly but we lack good movies and stars.
Cauvery was the theatre where I watched my first movie I guess!!! It is right next the health institute (National Tuberculosis Institute) where my appa retired from!!!
I have visited the theatre which is very closeby and yes, demolition has begun. The iconic circle spiral structure is gone. All that's left of it is the small theatre part that 2 excavators were tearing down

Qube for distribution, multiplex for exhibiting and OTT for viewing.
When there's monopoly in the market, its their wish and price.
But when people are ready to pay 500 for popcorn, what can anyone do?

Very sad. This is our heritage. We will lose something as a society if we lose places like this. The place should be modified and used as a retail or cultural center
Old facilities give way new.... that's technology upgradement...We also lost many single screen theatres in Madras long long ago....
Why always make some emotional videos for all kinds of things? Besides it was not of good quality in projection. I had headache after watching pirates of carribbean there.
