I seen the post from NBA on ESPN. What Ant said about Magic, Jordan, Kobe & skill made me mad thinking like that isn’t good he should do research understand his position why he gets compared to Mike Jordan ! Then try something else.
Kobe Bryant exposed the SF 3-Level scoring.. it’s not “Skill” its position and 1-5 sets.. like 5 out, 4-1, 1-4 stacked, 3-2 or 2-3 😒 How did Bird get blow by Layups ???!
      - Remember Zeeke, Larry Bird & Doctor J these new guys aren’t changing the game, Self aware or impactful enough they need to make sure they Top 10 All-time in there position.
Ant lucky he was never a “Spot up 2G” it’s not “skill” it’s Shot Creation. Greg Popivich talks about it it’s up there with IQ and Intangibles then “Skill”.
Ant Edward’s just like us ! all playing with are egos lacking Intangibles i’ve matured to understand position makes the Player then the Player finds its role SGs think they Gods gift 😒 MJ was UNCs spot up shooter.

This is the podcast that made me realize playing or having played in the NBA doesn't mean all your opinions about basketball are valid.
The definition of skill is something you learn to do
    Shooting is a skill
    Rebounding is a skill
    Passing is a skill
    Defense is a skill
    Ball handling is a skill
    Scoring is a skill
Setting picks and screens is a skill
Those are different from natural athletic ability which is physical and determined by your genetics.
These are all skills players learn in the sport of Basketball. Some players are just MORE skilled at each of them than others. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan were highly SKILLED players and good at more than one thing.
There are highly skilled players in every era of the NBA. This is when Gil's arena gets annoying to me when Gil just says things just to say things that don't make sense. Raising your voice doesn't make you right.

I agree with you list and want to add a few more. -------- Gil doesn't know what he's talking about. I could name 20 players who had skill. Back in the 80's and 90's. Here's the list: Bernard King, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Mark Price, Dr J, Moses Malone, Maurice Cheeks, John Stockton, Isaiah Thomas, Joe Durmars, Michael Ray, Mark Jackson, Dale Ellis, Chris Mullen, Alex English, Hakeem, James Worthy, Vinnie Johnson, World Bee Free, Kareem, Clyde Drexler, Danny Ainge, Sleepy Floyd, Mark Aquire, Adrian Dantley, Reggie Miller, Kevin Johnson, Scott Skyles. And I can't remember them all.
The top 50 players back then had skill back in the 80's. What Mike brought was skill with athleticism. Guards were not allowed to dominate the offense back in the day. -------- The offense flowed through centers, which is why Hakeem went higher than Jordan in the draft. ------- If you were a scoring guard you would be benched if you took too many shots. Allen Iverson and Gilbert Arenas were one of the first guards to have the offense run through them cause the team didn't have an offensive big man. ------- Gilbert's career benefited from the right situation. When Mark Price could have scored more but he had to pass to Brad Daughtery.

All of todays top scorers stats would drop with out the freedom of movement rules and things like a gather steps. Most of these so called "skilled ball handlers" of today carry every time down the floor.

1:41:41 so wait... Gil is cutting off Rashad's argument because he feels like its moving the goal post... but when Rashad asks to clarify :
    1.) the era
    2.) the definition of skill
    3.) skill vs talent
Gil moves the goal post to say Ant meant "Talent" instead of skill and that he was only talking about 88-95 instead of the whole 90s? and that players like Magic, Drexler, Olajuwon and so on don't matter? 🤔
This is some crazy mental gymnastics

  • @brianbrooks5366

I’m sorry but Gil in the arguments about what ant said was bullshitting. First off you can’t add random context to what he said. He never said he was just talking about shooting guards. He was speaking on players from that era as a whole. I wish Rashad had called him out on that.
If Rashad could get his point on correctly he could’ve won this argument, the quote was right there but he got too caught up in what Gil and Brandon said.

I think people just forget how superior Jordan was, Jordan could score more in today's league with less defense and no hand checking. So if he can do that in today's league the people who limited him in the past weren't skilled? No one in today's game has Jordan's total package and the man hasn't played over 23 years. It's like if wembamyama dominated the nba for next 10 seasons and wins 6 titles. Will people say joker/luka was not skilled because they didn't win a title during wembamyama stretch run? Everyone knows joker and Luka are highly skilled it's just wembamyama became an unstoppable force bc of his size and skill. Jordan was an unstoppable force and it's not the other players fault he made skilled players look bad. And to be honest I'm sorry but a prime Larry bird would demolish ant Edward's, I saw him destroy Uber athletic players like Shawn Kemp. Most famous quote was when he was pissed a coach put a white player on him, that's how good Larry bird played.
