    Gorgeous boats, but yours is going to be wonderful too and even better because you’ve done all the renovations yourselves. Yes widebeams are amazing, as big as an apartment but if you want to travel the whole network you can’t do it on a wide beam. Lovely to meet Annabel, I’m going to check out her channel. Take care. X

    Hi - New to your channel and enjoying your renovation journey. Wanted to chime in on the bed situation. We've had a couple RVs (caravans) that had table/benches that converted into the bed. It is a giant pain to entirely remake the bed every night in order to have the table set up during the day. Plus, all the under the bed storage is used to store bed linens/pillows (and very little else). If you can find space to have your desk and/or table in the living room area, it would save you so much time/energy every day.

    I considered sub 50ft as its easy to handle but went for 60ft in the end cos it doesnt take long to get experience and the extra space is great, although is harder and cost more to heat, and for moorings

    Widebeam boats are great if you don't want to move them if you want to travel then it has to be a narrowboat

      As someone clueless..are the wide beams really just incapable of traveling most the canals?

    • @steveperrin1590
      @steveperrin1590 Рік тому +2

      Absolute rubbish, there are many hundreds of miles of canals (called widebeam canals) built specifically to accommodate the widebeam barge. (Another case of boat envy, I think) 😉

  • @MaritimeFox
    @MaritimeFox Рік тому

    I hear a lot of people say that narrowboating is off grid. In reality it isn't. You have to pay a licence fee to be on the canal, you need somewhere to dispose of your rubbish, places to dispose of toilet waste and refill with water. So from that standpoint it's very much on-grid in the holistic sense. Sure, we generate our own electricity, but we still need diesel for that. 🙂

    • @mike-driftwoodfolk2651
      @mike-driftwoodfolk2651 Рік тому

      Great comment. Id say it's probably the best you can get in the UK for being off grid ha. Technically you could have solar panels and create your power from that so no need for the engine or shore power but as you said then it's the licence as well as the rubbish etc ... But then again even if you had land and a house with a completely off grid system you would still have the council come round to collect your bins and the lpg man come to swap your bottles over ... So is anything truly off grid? Not really but it's as near as you can get especially being in the UK.

      Trouble is, once the Ocean and Sailboats get into your blood, they never leave. I was lucky as I was about set to go Sailboat Racing, the 1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy happened, and I permanently stayed with Sailboat Cruising, and got my high speed kicks with Motorbikes instead, though as a Tourer, not a Racer- was going Racing, but got priced out of doing it, as to be successful you needed sponsorship, and to get Sponsorship you needed to be successful. 😅 Ho hum. My Cousin is happy with his Canal Boat, I think he's somewhere around London, a d being Afloat a ywhere in a boat, is much better than not having a boat to be Afloat in, says the presently bottles guy. I've definitely got one more Sailboat to liveaboard in, and maybe have two if I can get back to the Tropics for a few years, while a new Sailboat gets built. Good luck, Best Wishes and Fair Winds to you all. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
