Dracula is the only piece of classic literature I have ever read from beginning to end and I must say it gave me the creeps! I can only imagine what it must have done to its Victorian contemporaries who had not been desensitized by movies.
Well said! I also often try to imagine truly experiencing works of art (and other phenomena) for the first time as those contemporaries experienced them. Almost impossible to do, but very interesting! Do try some other classics! Have you tried Orwell? A modern classic I guess but certainly worth your time!
I am dyslexic, and I have a terrible time with words, but I love books, literature, and reading. I appreciate very much your reading of this. Thank you.
Giving a great book a great voice. Bram Stoker would be proud and grateful! Thank you for bringing Dracula to the people in a most sincere manner, Steven! Also, impressed to tears by all the accents and voice shiftings to impersonate the characters. True art.
Poor Arthur has his dad’s funeral, Lucy’s mom’s and Lucy’s all on same day? How awful. Plus it’s great to hear this while ‘seeing’ the Coppola movie in one’s head!
I feel I have to complain… since starting the first part I have not been able to concentrate on anything else and been constantly thinking on how I can continue listening ! This is terrible ! Terrible because you read so well and act so well the voices that one feels right in there with the rest of the characters so I’m useles in my work now - I can’t concentrate … I need to listen to the rest !!! Thank you 🙏 ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so so so much for putting in the immense amount of effort that it must have taken to record all of this. Absolutely worth waiting in between uploads. I love all the different voices you do and you're keeping me company during this lonely time of quarantine. Would you consider doing a reading of White Fang or Call Of The Wild? They're my favourite Jack London books from childhood, and I feel you'd really do them justice with your wonderful emotive style. Thanks again xxx
as i was listening to the portion where they went into lucy's tomb, my phone rang. the ring tone is a loon crying out, resembling howling of wolves. made me jump so high! good thing i was reclined in a bed so the landing was soft. i absolutely love your work.
I really dig the extra touches such as echo or muffled voices from talking between doors and suchlike. The whole reading is top-notch. Thanks for the immense effort that this recording must have required.
Fabulous narration. I just can’t believe people were this…talkative back then. Now a days people only use like a third of the dialogue in their sentences
Also the story conceit that these people are writing this verbosely in and amongst the events themselves is laughable. Lucy: i have barely the strength to write... Also lucy: writes a 15 pages detailed memorandum of what happened the night her mother died.
Thanks. What a marvellous, compelling job you have done reading/ enacting this book. A great comfort to me. I so enjoyed your "The Secret Garden". What a talent you have. Best of health and much happiness to you.
So glad part 2 and 3 are already uploaded, as I couldn't imagine the suspense waiting lol, enjoying this so much, another peaceful night listening to your awesome rendition
Ugh. Mena (Mina?) is even worse, if possible. “Last night I had a scary dream just like the one Lucy described. I would tell the men, but I don’t want them to be worried.”
I laughed so hard when he asked to cut off Lucy’s head. If I was in that room I would surely give him my fist. Van needs to start explaining himself better 😂

Authors during this period were often paid by the word. It's why Dickens was so wordy. No one actually spoke like that.
