I feel like kpop idols tend to go for more grip rather than more slip in terms of shoes. Most kpop choreos have lots of jumps and other movements that would become dangerous with slippery shoes. And given how much and how long idols perform (they perform on music shows and other programs multiple times a day every day during promotions, concerts are basically 2h of almost non-stop dancing), it would be very easy for them to slip and sprain something if they're just a bit tired. I remember a behind the scenes clip of a Seventeen performance where they had to wear formal shoes (to go with the formal attire) and they were applying something to the bottom of their shoes to make them more grippy.

That confirms it then, I am still highly, highly impressed, I feel like from what I know about dance, that is really hard to do, in someway harder than whatever I had to do.

this was lovely to watch, you sharing memories of ball room dancing was so cool. a few decades ago, ballroom dancing was a fave pastime for my grand parents and immediate family. i remember sitting and watching them glide across the dance floor, a fond memory of mine.
i agree that Seventeen excels at showing how much fun they have every time they dance, and it's infectious. which is why people enjoy their stages and dance practices so much. they have worked with choi yunjun the choreographer and dance director hyelim for a nearly a decade now, the great chemistry is evident in their performances. thank you for sharing this reaction!

Oh my....I really and truly thought you were joking with us. Massive props to you for your ballroom dancing history. You really are a reactor who is experienced in lots of different genres. I think you're going to enjoy your journey with Seventeen. I'd like to suggest one of their latest releases.
The choreo is so fun. The mv is not to be missed. It's called God of Music. I can hardly wait for your reaction!!! (but I guess I'll have to wait a little while, huh?

haha! I am very eclectic, it was honestly my favorite time in my life, but sadly I dont think those times or ballroom can ever return, I think I will do a song for them next week, do a little bit before I have One Week Club

K-pop artists sometimes dance, wearing so uncomfortable shoes, it hurts to watch😫 like, some stylists don't care about artists' comfort and safety 😤

Another thing about the shoes is they often perform on stage in whatever shoes the stylist deems appropriate for the outfits and not so much what's appropriate for the dancing. And I don't think they get much more than one dress rehearsal in the stage outfits some times. I remember NCT Taeil slid down a tilting stage he was supposed to climb up but didn't make it. He said it was because he'd rehearsed it in different shoes. It ended up being a funny moment because he wasn't hurt except his pride but I am sure that more serious injuries do occur from inappropriate footwear. The guy in boots is smart because I most often see idols, male and female dancing in crazy heavy looking boots. Stray Kids and Aespa come to mind.
This is one of my favorite Seventeen songs, the choreo is so satisfying to watch. This time last year I was watching Boys Planet and a group of trainees got assigned this song. The look of sheer horror on their faces when they found out . . . they almost cried.

    • @Killdeer25

really? almost cried?! thats so crazy!
I am glad it was just hurt priide, that could've been much worse! I do have to admit, I do kinda want to see the clip now haha! its so true! Aespa has some crazy big boots, always! ITZY is kinda similar too, if it aint big its usually stilettos

@@Killdeer25 It was because they were intimidated to do such an iconic dance and manage the vocals too. And fair enough too, they did a decent job of the dance but only one of them kept his voice stable through it. None of them made the cut in the end either although not just because of that one performance.

    • @hikalianezli1251

@@kristenblack6026 yes... most of SVT songs are hard to cover because the choreography and the vocal range (?)... but when someone can manage it, it's always be a great performance...

@@hikalianezli1251 Agree. These were trainees, some of whom had less than a year as trainees but they really tried their best. They just didn’t have enough physical stamina yet to keep their vocals stable in a dance that difficult. But it was still impressive to see how hard they tried. It’s a great song.

    Some recommendations:
    SEVENTEEN;
    1) If you'd like another song with a ballroom/Latin vibe, you should check out "Fast Pace", esp the "Power of Love" concert performance.
    2) My fav dance performance in an MV is their classic "Don't Wanna Cry".
    3) My fav dance practice is their choreography video for "Thanks"
    SuJu:
    1) "I Think I" is a catchy rhumba and has a great video - but almost no dancing, because they couldn't learn the choreography in time, which really is weird. You can see it in live performances or the Japanese MV.
    2) "Hit Me Up" - also a rhumba, the production is a bit dated, but it has a nice vocal arrangement, but sadly no video.
Fun fact: That you don't see Kpop groups do much partner dancing seems to me to be due to the morally very strict (or perhaps jealous) Korean fans. :) Leeteuk once had a "scandal" where some people claimed he put his hand too low on his female partner's hips, which was very odd, because it was choreographed and not scandalous by any standards. When the do do partner dances it's mostly reserved to concerts, where they can get away with more than on TV, and even then they make sure to hardly touch at all. Highly ironic of course that they can happily do highly ambiguous "skinship" with their own sex. In the "Fast Pace" performances there are even highly suggestive moments between the members in the choreography. :)

that is wild, I dont know if a show like dancing with the stars could exist if thats an actual scandal, glad some of my tango or Latin dances didnt make the internet and I was Korean, I would be burned at the stake :O

@@Killdeer25 There was a Japanese movie and a Korean remake in which ballroom dancing was almost akin to a sexual revolution a few decades ago, similar to tango at the beginning of the 20th century in the west. But Asia does have it now, but it's mainly for adults, whereas K-pop audiences tend to be younger, and it also depends on the medium (television is more restricted than live concerts).

@@Killdeer25 The Japanese movie was called "Shall We Dance". There was a US remake with JLo and Richard Gere. It's cute, but since ballroom dancing was quaint and not scandalous at the time it doesn't have the same cultural significance.
