I'm saying this out of love for both groups and not to detract anything from Red Velvet who are incredibly talented and have a unique discography. But when I listen to this album in particular I feel as if this is an evolution of what f(x) were doing between 2012 and 2014 with the Electric Shock EP and Pink Tape and Red Light albums. f(x) moved to a less experimental sound in 2015 while Red Velvet really took on that role with Ice Cream Cake and then this album. Red Velvet's discography and aesthetic has much more polish, pushes further, and sound of the groups reflects each era they're from (f(x) being 2nd gen, Red Velvet being 3rd gen). Anyway what I'm saying is both groups good and I'm glad the experimental girl group music didn't die off with f(x), but continued to evolve. My ult groups were from small companies, but out of the big 3... I guess it's 4 now, I've always appreciated SM's approach to music the most. It doesn't always work, but it's rarely boring.

There's a reason why SM has been a top company for so long. They're not afraid to experiment with sounds, with vocals, with concepts. Red Velvet is the kind of group that you won't find anywhere else. The only comparable group is f(x) and they were also from SM. f(x) were probably SM's most experimental girl group. Go back and check out your reaction to Rum Pum Pum by f(x). I think you'll hear some similarities between the music of the two groups.

Oooh yes this is maybe my favourite b-side from the The Red album! Actually haven't listened to this album as a whole in so long, maybe I need to revisit it. I used to rate all my music in my offline media player, but my laptop crashed a little while back so I'm afraid I lost all of that 😭I did make a backup of my music files, but I don't think it will have saved the ratings 😔 Anyway back to this song; especially the chorus where they sing the title is so satisfying to me 😊I think I like it exponentially more than the rest of the song (I don't dislike the rest of the song!) but I think that makes it even more satisfying to me. Like you said it's such a big tonal shift. About their discography overall: I got into Red Velvet's discography relatively late, and then I usually listened to everything on shuffle. So I heard all their songs without knowing which albums they were from, or sometimes which were title tracks or b-sides, but it's such a weird and varied discography. Not all the songs are "weird", in fact they have a lot of "normal" songs, but sometimes I was just hit out of nowhere with some super uniquely weird standout 😅And it's nothing like some of my favourite group's discographies where I rate pretty much every song 9 or higher, but it made me really really appreciate Red Velvet's discography for how unique it is. I don't know if I made much sense, I think I mostly said the word "discography" a lot 😂

The remarkable thing is that each Red Velvet song stands out as unique and distinct from their other tracks. Their discography is incredibly diverse and distinctive, making them pioneers of K-pop and living legends.

Honestly, this was the song that really made me sit up and take notice of the group. I said "Wait a second... something different is going on here." I hadn't heard anything like it in Kpop at the time.

In the beginning I wouldn't put on Dumb Dumb too often because at first listen it felt kinda repetitive and just not my cup of tea (I didn't dislike it, there was just a lot of other RV music I liked better) but I've come to really appreciate it. I still actually don't put it on that often, but then every time I listen to it I'm reminded again how fun and weird it is. Looking forward to b-sides!

This song is a genre of its own... The closest thing to this is Russian Roulette... It still amazes me how they make such concepts work beautifully, the lack of expression, the subtle changes of emotions conveyed through their music is amazing. The creepy, unsettling vibe that goes throughout the songs is something very unique to them.

This song was my jam 😂 it's sooo weird but it just works ... Not a dull moment in it... The happy, preppy , sugary pop melody with some creepy undertones is something that only RV queens could make work

They always stare into you with cold face 😅 Fans usually dont know what kind of song they will bring, they always strive to find other styles they can utilize. This 'Perfect (Red) Velvet' album was ranked 5th of greatest kpop albums of the 2010s by Billboard. It has some great bsides combo that fans still highly love.

I like when a song has a pretty simple and repetitive chorus, they change it up a bit or add something for the next chorus. Love Yeri's rap verse too! I always love a good rap verse in a Red Velvet song, whether it's Irene, Joy or Yeri. Probably also because rap isn't too on the forefront of their music, it makes it more special when they have a nice rap verse, and I always like how it fits in their songs. This is a pretty popular RV song, probably in their top 10, maybe even top 5 most popular! -And this music video's "please calm down"-award goes to.... Joy! get off that table please 😳😭-

This and *Happiness* are their only tracks without Yeri btw, seeing as they were both standalone singles before Yeri joined with the Ice Cream Cake album 😊 Though they had already released a shorter version of the cover predebut, but with just Irene and Seulgi dancing in the video (with the chairs). So maybe it wasn't quite as big a shock as it'd seem to release this full version about 2 months after the super different *Happiness* 😅 And probably they wanted to showcase both extremes of Red and Velvet early on. And with it being a cover from a 1st generation song, it's old school in that way and maybe that's why the textbook thing makes sense? I've seen some covers of this song by other girl groups as well (sometimes with the Red Velvet chair dance), Dreamcatcher's Yoohyeon and Gahyun for example once did it live during a concert 😳

Like I mentioned on Ice Cream Cake, Automatic is one of my all-time favourites, and that warmth is definitely one of the reasons. Is it their most interesting or adventurous song? No, not even among their R&B tracks, but there is just something very comforting about it to me, and that's a personal thing of course. But yeah, love it, I like the music video as well, kinda comfy and elegant but uncanny and mysterious at the same time (which is very Red Velvet 😅)

Velvet!. Happiness is Red. Ice cream cake is R with a hint of V. After 2 full albums R and V. They started mixing R&V smoothly, aggressively, sometimes weirdly. I love their synth, low base with beautiful voices. I am just highly biased everything is awesome. There might be songs not to your taste but still great to others. That's the magic these lovely super space witches do. Cheers.

Not sure if u did on purpose but the 3 songs you did today were all ‘red’ and their ‘velvet’ is more like R&B/ballad like their 2nd release Be Natural or their 3rd release Automatic(double title track with Ice Cream Cake). Some other velvet MV’s are Psycho, Bad Boy, Peek a Boo. And Cosmic is kind of a blend I guess. Also RV is known for their b sides(like Night Drive😌) so hope you can check some out

This was my first Red Velvet song. From this on, I was hooked. I loved the MV and ran off to find more stuff that they had done. Happiness is #2 on my favorite Red Velvet list.

I love Ice Cream Cake! It also didn't click for me immediately when I first heard it, I thought it was "just cute", but now I feel like it's such a strong song actually. Amazing Irene and Joy raps too. I'm currently watching a K-drama Joy stars in and it's been funny seeing her face in these old music videos again 😅 Agreed, Seulgi sounds amazing when she opens the song, she has such an amazing voice an is one of those lead vocalists who would be a main vocalist in any group that didn't have Wendy 😂 Seulgi's solo debut was SO amazing as well. Still in love with that song and album. And very much looking forward to Irene's album (she's my main bias 😊) Will you be checking out Automatic, from this same album, next? It was like their second single from the album (not sure if they called it a double title track but you could see it that way). It's the antithesis of Ice Cream Cake, and one of my favourite Red Velvet songs overall 😊
