I feel another reason for Xbox one losing market share was the Kinect not living up the hype. Microsoft promised so much and the Kinect didn't deliver.

No. I went through a few 360s myself. I felt like there was more equity replacing it with my friends who were using theirs too. Plus, amazing library.
It was 2013 when it started to fall apart. Neither system was back-compatible, so going to either the PS4 or XB1 was a fresh slate. And with the PS4 being 100 bucks less, Kinect paranoia and bad messaging, it was too late.
Halo started to dwindle, Epic wasn’t doing Gears. And in 2016, they announced Play Anywhere with first-party games going to PC day 1. Since then, it’s been an impossible uphill battle. There’s little reason to feel to invest as an Xbox console in 2024.

MS actually fixed the RROD as my two day 1 360S consoles have worked flawlessly to this day so they clearly rebounded from that.

Perhaps the first time in a long time I gotta disagree, 360 dominated that cycle and was surpassed because they never got a foothold in Japan and PS3 eventually in the end stretch of the generation.
The 360 cycle had fantastic output from first party and was typically the best place to play 3rd party for both performance and XBL was hitting its stride… even with the RROD controversy… but it did take a toll on the brand as many gamers where weary and hesitant to pick up a 360, even though the PS did end up have the lesser wide spread yellow light of death.
The both ahead of it time a bumbling E3 announcement and presentation of Xbox One sealed MS fate… MS made the same mistake Sony made announcing the PS3 too expensive and too much hubris, wrong era to make the mistake and too much hubris.
Pretty much agree with most of what you said though, as always love the content… since bonus round and Pach attack days.

For further clarification, the 360 sold for roughly a decade wears in the PlayStation 3 sold for 11 years… the 360 sold 84 million units, where is in the PlayStation 3 sold 87… Sony managed to sell 11 million units in Japan wears in Microsoft didn’t even crack to topping out at 1.7… In all of Europe, Sony edged Microsoft out marginally, but in the UK and the United States, even with the red ring of death, Microsoft dominated.

Xbox 360 customers kept buying the damn thing when it broke. The red ring was not keeping customers away. That is one reason why that system sold as many units as it did.
Xbox lost its way because of Don Matrick, kinnect, and the birth of Xbox One.

RROD definitely padded 360's actual sale figures. Every model up until Jasper eventually failed.

Didn’t you know the PS2 PS3 had the ring of death also like the my first PS2 opened then when it closed it stayed red refused to open I lost my dvd and Sony replaced it and gave me a free crash bandicoot game and also gave me back the dvd cd I lost with it my PS3 turned red and refuses to play anything it freezes so don’t put all the blame on Microsoft every console in the past had problems until the PS4 xbox one were released

Actually it was flipped. The PS4 was $100 less than the Xbox One because of Kinect. Also marketing (like their all TV fiasco launch show) DRM and (you are correct) games. The #1 thing is probably games. The Kinect didn’t kill it but Microsoft couldn’t get their act together to recover in the games department. I have had 3 Xbox 360’s and ZERO Xbox’s after that. That’s how good that system was.

The RRoD was a major factor _(although there were others)_ for Xbox's downturn, but in an indirect way. The problem was that because MS lost so much money due to the RRoD, they prolonged the generation longer than they should have in order to recoup costs. Sony did the same thing because the PS3 was too costly to make, which made them lose money when they had to drop the price down to normal levels to be competitive with the 360. So as a result of both Sony and MS licking their financial wounds, they both were all too happy to extend the generation with little pressure from the other to move forward.
Unfortunately for them, new console generations exist for a reason. They rebuild excitement for gaming. Without that, gaming sales started to slump. This is what led to all the misinformed stories about video games dying at the time. Microsoft took this to heart, and along with a mind-numbingly naive interpretation of their own telemetry data on the 360's use, they concluded that moving away from gaming and into media would be the best way forward. That led to the now infamous XB1 TV TV TV marketing, APU design tradeoffs in favor of media to the detriment of gaming, and the cost ballooning inclusion of Kinect for hands-free media and ad interaction even though it had VERY limited gaming applicability.
THAT is what doomed Xbox. MS produced a more expensive, less capable XB1 console, with no exclusive system sellers, and whose own marketing didn't focus on gaming, which was the only justification for buying the $500 console. They did all that because they misread the downward sales caused by a prolonged generation due to the need to recoup RRoD costs. The resultant horrific launch XB1 promotion and inferior hardware is why many Xbox die-hards, myself included, jumped ship to the PS4, and MS has never recovered.
P.S. For completeness, MS's getting rid of gaming studios and reducing gaming output also was a major factor in Xbox's downfall. That gaming deficiency, which was bad enough, was magnified because a significant part of the remaining capacity was diverted to support Kinect, which was incapable of doing most gaming. That led to a bunch of Kinect games that few wanted.
Oh and then there was their multiplayer push that sidelined, or changed for the worse, many single player games...
Yeah MS basically did everything wrong they possibly could have. It was a slow motion train wreck for all to see.

Rip Xbox. So so so so so sad. :(
Can indies justify the Xbox and Sony to keep making consoles? Sell a control, stream on the cloud?
I’m never gonna purchase digital AAA games. I’ll always go physical when I can own my media.
Buying 4K blurays of my favourite movies right now. Dont feel the DVD craze where I own 200+ dvds.
But I want to own beautiful movies that I’ll own forever. I no longer subscribe to Netflix, d+, cable, etc….
I love owning my favourite things.
Gamepass has been great but has killed the industry all in pursuit of shortcuts and ‘making the future of games distribution and availability, be reduced to the Netflix-of-games’.
We’re dealing with shortsightedness of that now. So many creatives are losing there jobs and AAA makes peanuts compared to something stupid and simple like candy crush, Fornite, Roblox, GTA Online, etc.
Such a sad way to reward the gamers that got this industry to where it is now.
All our energy and $$ to fund art this beautiful industry have been cast aside in favour of GaaS and MTX.
Such a damn shame. Glad invite with my wallet now. Support indies. Ea, Ubisoft, Microsoft and the rest of these companies need to hear our concerns and invest in us again.

They all suck now, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are coming out with no games that are interesting. For me PC has won, I'm PC only now for the first time ever and have no interest in any console. Why would I care about a Switch 2 now there is a Steam Deck and by the time the Switch 2 comes out, there will be a Steam Deck 2. The Switch was just a Wii U port console, it really did nothing of interest and I think Nintendo have lost the ability to make innovative games now.
