Camper Shell Bed Platform for any truck, Removable & Simple

- This video outlines how the philosophy behind a removable platform bed I built in my 3rd gen tacoma. This same concept can be used for any truck bed, assuming you have some basic carpentry knowledge. No elaborate tools needed and can be removed in a minute or less.

Pretty cool design. I would add a permanent sliding platform on rails that sat on the bed proper that wouldn't interfere with functionality of using it to haul lumber or whatever else you would need it to do.
Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I really like the how you have it set up.
Sigma I like it. And i believe you that in this kind of setup u gain more storage. Less is more here, perfect example. Question for sleep u can close the tailg and the rear window ? Did u keep urs open just for display.
That extra 200lbs from the deck system would technically help with traction.
Just gave me an idea to build something similar for an older Jeep XJ once the back seat is folded down. Nice!
Hopefully you can post back with details, because I have a 94 XJ and I am only 5'8" and it's still tight for me to sleep in the back, without sleeping with my legs up or stealing the dogs space next to me!
@@lonewolfsurvival3453 I'm 5'9 but I naturally sleep with my legs up so I don't have that problem. For you I'd suggest adding an additional folding section towards the front. It's an elevated platform so it should clear the rear seat anyway. Move the front seats all the way foward at night, fold out the added section, and that should give you an extra foot or so. Idk it might work.
@@justinsouza1204 , you sleep with your legs up naturally? Man, that is awkward and uncomfortable as hell lol. I figure if I moved the front seats forward, removed the rear seat and somehow leveled the rear floorboard area then I might be able to lay straight without bending my knees or laying diagonal.
@@lonewolfsurvival3453 Try that
@@justinsouza1204 , alright will do, thanks!
Sigma 3 rocks‼️👍✌💯🇺🇸
Really good stuff there!! Thanks -- Ralph
멋진 영상 응원합니다. 감사합니다.
How would you recommend making a sleeping platform for a 2019 Ford ranger that doesn’t have the 2x6 slots? Wasn’t really sure what you mean in the video if you didn’t have that
I’m in the same boat
My 95 Toyota has these bolt holes for the tie down hooks on every corner of bed I removed them and created a bracket to hold 2x4’s on the edges but still need something for the middle
@@95YotaPickup what kind of brackets? Id like to know as i'll be building mine soo. If you use 2x6 and 3/4 in. ply you should have plenty of support!
I cut a rectangle tube of aluminum that was 1/4” thick and cut them in half to make L shapes earlier today I placed the ply wood on and it’s pretty sturdy but the plywood is a bit warped
So now I’m debating to make a frame around the platform like on video or think of a new solution
@@95YotaPickup honestly square tube of stainless steel might be the way to go for this
@@nicoaguilar13 yeah after last night I’m looking at this and now I’m rethinking it all
Glad I started it because then I was never gonna do it haha
What are the large coyote bags near the tailgate? They look like a descent large compression bags.
I settled on a very similar system. Agree with the shortfall of the decked system and even the cargo glide. Great setup!
Great simplicity and functionality! How did you scribe the cuts for the bedside edge of your plywood? I’m looking at doing this for my tundra. I’m not against doing 3 pieces of plywood.
This looks pretty good. We've been looking at ideas to modify our truck for some road trips.
Good design!
I also built plywood cabinets to cover the wheel wells for storage and it supports my sleep platform.
I want the bumper on your truck can you tell me who made it and where you purchased it please.
CBI off road
@@sigma3survivalschool Wow that was fast Thank YOu
Are you guys still making videos?? Would be nice to some adventure/overlanding stuff from you guys.
Rob, nice simple build. Can you review your canopy shell? Looks like an ARE. Curious about the choices in slider windows, ventilation, leaking, security. Just stumbled on your channel and I'm liking your content.
Nice easy build. FYI, a 2018 GMC sierra has the same slots in the bed. At least mine does. Thanks for the great idea!
I've built one of these in the 80's and travelled all over the Western US in my little toy pickup. The design was different but was VERY comfortable .
Great video, thanks for sharing! I use a marine type gaffer hook that is collapsable/telescoping to reach things in the back of my truck. It works great. I have it attached vertically to a support near my tail gate with a spring type broom handle holder. Of course it doubles as an actual fishing gaffer.
Nice setup Rob. I did something similar with my Silverado when my wife and i went to Arkansas. Hoping i can build one as nice as yours once wood is a bit cheaper again.
great video
Awesome!
I just built this setup a couple weeks ago. I did 3 strips of plywood instead of the folding method. Less secure but I can throw up either side to access stuff in the back if I’m not using my sliding drawers (plastic like yours). Just have to lay my carpet down and I’m ready to roll.
Love it. Send me pics when you get a chance. I’d love to see it
Is that a short bed 5'2" or the long bed 6' ?
6’
@@sigma3survivalschool thanks
