The things I did since I asked the question is started using a DI box in front of the interface, and bought a Furman power conditioner and plugged in all of my devices through it. It made a big difference. I also use a hardware ISP decimator before the DI box.
Just one question Steven. What can I do if I want to make a chug ring out without stopping the string ? What can I do if there's a little bit of noise?
partly right... an active DI Box *can* up your signal to Line level, but that's not the actual job of a DI Box. It's main job is to convert an unsymmetrical signal to a symmetric one, so that on longer cables noise can be eliminated by subtracting the difference between the symmetric signals. With a passive DI box though, signal level is still mic/instrument
tried this plugin after using POD Farm 2 for years now and i dont understand why Fortin Nameless has a constant noise even without any signal incoming i'd understand if it would be hardware but its a program/plugin why does it have constant noise? i thought its my guitar and the EMG Pickups but its none of it, so i used some DI's from other tracks i've recorded which has basically no noise at all in POD Farm 2. Edit: sorry for my bad english
I have a problem that sometimes there's no noise at all amd a couple of minutes playing the noise appears, i don't know why, and increase when i touch the strings.
Surprisingly I've read that everywhere yet my first and only guitar that has active pickups actually picks MORE noise than my passive ones. As well as DI boxes doing pretty much nothing at all. I'm kinda depressed right now as I'm getting lot and lot of troubles recording my stuff lately
Thanks very much Steven. A couple of things: Would a transient shaper be effective as a gate? AND: I am having big issues with MIDI control of Archetype Gojira. Where can I go for help? I find very little out there.
It's so frustrating that the QC has noise on even clean presets. Like a microphonic tube amp running along side the original signal. My kemper isn't nearly as noisy on even gainy sounds
The Messa plugin is one of the best I bought, now I have a question, I record guitar to the cable, cable to focusrite and from there to the daw using the plugin, but I can't make it sound like you demonstrate in the demos, it sounds more artificial, can you help me please? I tried with a direct box but it cuts the tone a lot, I didn't like it
Hey Steven! Great Video! Do you maybe also have some Tipps for the quad cortex regarding noise? When I use it as usb interface on my MacBook it can happen that logic all of a sudden detects a constant input signal, although my guitar is on 0. Otherwise the QC is a fantastic product. I guess its my army of plugged in powered devices on only 2 power outlets. I will definitely get a power conditioner. Do you also recommend a di box for the QC? My cable is only 9 m (spiral). Do you think changing the standard QC power cable to an upgrade would also have an impact? Do you think the MacBook (2020, Intel) sound card can be involved in the issue? Thx. Keep making your great videos. QC - > UIX is so easy it's a joy! 1.3 update is also great! Keep shaping the better wheel! Br, berry
Um... recording actual drums or an actual band in practice, sessions or gigs? They are portable (I have an 18i20). Same reasons anyone uses a multichannel. They actually only have 8 mic pre's btw, the other channels are for other input types.
@@incongruous4 I wasn't being sarcastic... it is exactly what you would do with multi inputs. The internet just lacks any inflection or context at all...
@@electricmeatpuppet "Um... recording actual drums or an actual band in practice, sessions or gigs?" Comes off as very sarcastic, unless you were not sure or a little confused about your answer.
I am a beginner in recording. What still seems difficult is how far to turn the volume knob on the guitar when recording. Is there the right ratio between the gain knob on your audio interface and the guitar knobs? Of course, I also know that I have to keep it from turning red.
It kind of depends what music you're looking to make but in general you can't go wrong with turning your guitar to 10 and then adjusting your interface so that it doesn't peak into the red. If the type of music you're making requires you to change volume on the fly I'd suggest leaving your guitar around 8 so you have the room to increase it if need be
I turn on my pathos pedal from abasi and it starts to screech. Also I can hear a fuss after I play with my gate at -65 I’m really new to these idk what tk do
You will just have to record your parts while turned away from the monitor. Like Steven mentioned, that's just the nature of recording around so many electronics. It can be annoying at times but it is totally doable. Good luck!
@@CheloWiiU but why does that happen? What is it about pointing the guitar towards the monitors that causes that Humm; and is eliminated if you turn the other direction? If it was bad electricity in the house, it would always be there, no?
@@NONE2NONE It's static electricity coming out of your computer screen that interacts with the pickups on your guitar or bass. Older screens were even worse, you had to move several meters away from the screens LOL
@DannyP 6 Yeah, in some cases that works really well. Take your guitar to a good technician who can do that kind of work. Also, you need to have in mind that there are some kind of pickups that are more noisy than others. What pickups does your guitar have??
HI i Bought Plini and Gojira few months back , having so much fun with it. i need some help with the latency issues. am using logic. if i choose low latency mode the plugin is not working also tried with a buffer size 64 still some latency remains. please let me know what else can i do to minimise or remove latency.
Use asio drivers and get your audio from your interface. Also reduce samples in your daw, this will help with latency. I have a modest setup and have like 1.4ms latency still. Beast machine too.
I’m highly interested in grabbing a DI box (out of curiosity to see if it’ll improve signal) but still unsure which one to get. If I have active EMGs, would I get a passive DI box? Thanks for these types of videos.
They do, and line level is referring to a mic input. DI boxes are especially helpful if you have a hot guitar that likes to clip, it can knock the signal down to a useable level before entering the DAW
I don't like my Soldano amp .. I can't for the life of me get anything that doesn't sound like mud. I wish I didn't pay for this thing, because I've actually tried Freebee amp sims that sound better. That ML sound lab high gain Roots amp sounds better than this thing. Unfortunately that amp crashes Logic on the M1s .. I'd just use that and never look back at this Neural DSP junk.

Painters tape, never would have thought of that. I still have tons left after doing some fretwork, thanks for that suggestion 👍
Thanks man!
Of course! 😁
So about 3:49 you do not recommend to use a Noise Gate (like a pedal) in the chain between guitar and my audio interface?
that tone maaaan.. so sick 🙌
Hola, what archetype is that? ❤

Thanks for the demo, the Fortin is killin it for me, but the JP plugin!? Extremely noisy on the gain side of things.... 😂🤟
I have a problem that sometimes there's no noise at all amd a couple of minutes playing the noise appears, i don't know why, and increase when i touch the strings.
Or just use active pickups and have no issues. Thanks for the gain explanation I'll def need to increase mine on the interface.

I learned from Adam Steel of HopPoleStudios to achieve a Zuul-like noise gate on Reaper. Highly recommended.
Do you think behringer's ''Ultra di-100'' would work ?
I'm pretty sure that painter's tape/masking tape can blemish nitro finishes if left in contact for too long.
