Well we South African quantity surveyors dont stay in South Africa for longer than 2 or 3 years after graduation as the profession is well in demand in most commonwealth countries and is listed on skills shortage lists, the middle east in a popular destination for South African quantity surveyors as well as New Zealand and Australia
This is a very interesting information, if I may ask. Is it possible for a South African Graduate to get an agency who’ll place him/her in the UK to become a Trainee QS or Assistant QS? Or a company that is willing to help an unemployed graduate.
It's very possible to be placed as an assistant or graduate QS in the UK from SA. The difficulty would come in finding your own accommodation and travel as a company is a less likely to pay relocation costs for a junior member of staff compared to say a Senior QS.
The average house price in the UK stands at £315,150 or R6,660,579. So yeah buying a comfortable a property is not always easy. We will be talking a little more about property in future videos so we would love if you'd subscribe so you find out more!
Why is CICES more relevant, and how would I be affected if I chose a uni that isn’t accredited by CICES . The unis I’ve chosen are mostly accredited by CIOB AND RICS and CABE , is that good enough?
CICES is only really relevant if you're planning on working within civil engineering as a Quantity Surveyor, for example in Highways. RICS is still by far the most prestigious chartership to be associated with so if your course is accredited by RICS you'll be fine. Please remember that the accreditation only really matters if you plan on gaining chartership through these associations. Many QS's go through their entire working lives without having any sort of chartership and have long successful careers.
I’m currently studying civil engineering in the uk and thinking of becoming a QS what do I do if I want to be chartered but I didn’t know at the time when applying for uni my course is accredited by the ICE but not necessarily by the RICs would a ICE chartershop still be okay ?
I love how Nothando is making this field look so attractive to women! 👌🏽
