    I was diagnosed with Osterarthritis of the knees when I was 60 years. I went through physiotherapy to reduce the pain and inflamation. Was advised to do a whole set of floor, standing and sitting exercises daily. I was disciplined and followed the advice. Here I am at 74 years, still exercising - began trekking in the mountains about five years ago and continue to do so. Most people I know did not bother to follow the advice and have all had their knees replaced. Their activity is now restricted. Exercise and keeping my weight under control is a priority for me.

    I tore miniscus about 10 years ago on a treadmill, when it started locking up I rode a bike instead of walking and it got a lot better. Hiking sticks are cooler than a cane or walker. I never got surgery and was glad as I recently heard they just remove the cartilage. I also do static pedals (the tension does work) and tailgate swing.
    A glider stool would work too, I have one of those.

    I had 2 meniscus tears plus arthritis. My knee was catching badly at times, with swelling and loss of range of motion.I tried everything. Professional PT, rest, ice, anti inflammatories, cortisone shots. Dr. was somewhat reluctant to do surgery due to my arthritis. Said it may not help. I had my knee scoped and it has been a major improvement. Not perfect, but my rom is 100% and I can walk virtually pain free. Don’t know how long it will last, but my quality of life is way better.

    I tore my meniscus a few years ago and orthopedic said it was a horizontal tear and not good to do surgery or it could force me into a total knee replacement later. I didn't have the surgery and am doing fine, over time, as if it never happened!

    My knee was not locking at all. I had 2 large tears, one a flap tear. I worked on it for 8 months and went to pt for 4 weeks. Still has the surgery because it got to the point that I could almost not walk. Sometimes surgery is best without the locking.

    My knee doctor said I need scoping on both knees because I have tore cartilages. The problem with the cartilages is that they don't get blood and don't grow back. How can your suggested techniques help me? Can I get away without surgery? I already had a scope down 5 years ago on one of my knees because it was locking. Now both my knees are not locking. They just hurt when I play soccer.

    • @xandermoyle
      @xandermoyle 3 роки тому +4

      I have torn cartilage in both knees. I am now 62. Never had surgery. I had a knee locking in right knee. One day playing basket ball, I jumped and came down hard on the joint. The cartilage tore again into smaller piece. I could lock the knee again. Torn section moved to the front of knee to the left side of the knee cap. The piece of cartilage was no longer in the joint. Over two year the body absorbed it and it is now gone. I was 20. At 62, perhaps once a year I forget when I squat I need to be careful about how I get up, the cartilage in the left knee moves front to back. giving me some discomfort behind the knee cap and other times behind the knee, preventing me from locking the knee. It takes about three day for my knee to recover. It is the inflammation the creates pain, but it is the inflammation that expanse the joint and allows the cartilage to slide back into proper place. Usually this happens while I sleep. Some how if you can move the cartilage so it will not obstruct the knee mobility would work for you. Perhaps a form of traction might work as well. Once the cartilage is moved into the proper place, strengthen knee with cycling or something like. I have been cycling for years. I am not an export, just an old guy trying to keep my mobility and avoid pain.

    Bob and Brad, at the beginning when you were talking about having surgery, were you talking about just the removal of the meniscus or a complete knee replacement? I tore the meniscus in both legs two years ago. One did heal , but the other bothers me daily. The doctor says not to remove the meniscus, that they rarely do that anymore, but instead have a knee replacement.I am not sure that that is the answer since friends have told me that after their knee replacement they’re about in the same place I am right now. Wondering what you were referring to. Thank you

      Depends on your age. Knee replacement lasts about 20 years. Redo-ing it lasts another 5 to 8. 3 to 5 after that. Each redo increases complications and risks of pain.

I'm a single mom, so it's difficult to stay on the couch all day...pretty impossible. I've been told I have bone on bone arthritis. The MRI showed it. Currently taking prednisone to help with the swelling and terrible pain. Seems to help but dr. said only five days, short term. Going for third opinion this week. Is there any hope for me. please I have a very specific question for you guys, cause I'm still suffering the same sharp pain in some positions of my knee whether I putting weight on it or not, usually while straightening in aprox. 30 degrees flexion. I was diagnosed with medial plica so i did undergo the arthroscopic surgery but after 2 months I stilll feel this sharp pain. There was also slight cartilage damage and meniscus.
    Question: Does cartilage hurts intermintently (sharp, episodic pain) and aslo without putting weight on it (stairs, walks) or only when putting weight on it, please?
    Thank you thank you so much

      Did the doctors actually ask you if you had done all that?
      And did they tell you had to undergo a knee replacement?...

      I would say rest and watch a lot of Bob and Brad videos! Also, seeing a physical therapist irl would be good. I think as long as you’re putting in the effort to fix it, you should be fine!

    A cane helps my right foot better where the problem is then using it on the left side I don't know how he could say that use it on the opposite side or my doctors told me to use it on the side that hurts cuz it lifts you up and takes the pressure off your cartridge you can't believe every video you see and hear you have to be your own doctor 👍🍀
