    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    A debate rages as to whether Hitler is really dead, and the operation moves forward as planned.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    At the absolute height of World War II, German generals hatch a daring plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and effectively render the German war machine impotent. Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life mastermind behind the elaborate plot known as Project Valkyrie: a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow his government from the inside. Stauffenberg has been a loyal soldier and an asset to the Reich for his entire military career, but after losing an eye, a hand, and three fingers in an Allied bombing, he reaches a breaking point. The destructive madness that his country is unleashing on the world has become too terrible for the colonel to stand silent. He joins the resistance movement -- a treasonous act, punishable by death -- and risks his life and the life of his family for the chance to change history. Comprised of high-ranking officials working in secret, the German Resistance has access to the inner workings of the government and military, putting them in the perfect position to dispatch the dictator and then use his own official contingency plan to seize power -

    Incredible painful to watch this knowing that the coup was doomed to fail from the start. Knowing their life's was on the line, all they could do were to proceed hoping for the best.

      Well their sacrifice was not in vein. This operation caused hitler to start miss trusting his commanders around him and made him start taking control and start coordinating battles Himself. Which surprise surprise made things so much worse and ultimately cost the Germans the war. His repeated mistakes allowed for the allies to turn the tied of the war.

      They never intended to make peace with the Soviets, only with the western allies. They actually hoped that with nazis defeated the western powers would cooperate with Germany against their common threat - the USSR. Depending on the conditions the new German government would propose that wasn't impossible, especially in case of UK. Then you have some of the American generals, like Patton, who understood that once the war is over - USSR would be the new enemy.

      We need to remember that Churchill and the other western powers were already thinking about post war conflict with the soviets ,and Winston was shocked when thr Americans said unconditional surrender would be their objective
      If it had worked he could of possibly taken really harsh conditions from the allies but might of been able to convince them of the Soviet threat.
      At the end of the Day unlikely but not impossible and not enough to say in my opinion that it would not have worked. Though I belive civil war would of been the result.

    Operation Valkyrie would have worked, if you believe the movie is accurate. The only flaw, in the plan, came from Olbricht's fear. At the moment of truth, he decides to go to lunch instead of starting Operation Valkyrie. This 3-hour delay is what caused the plan to fail. The element of surprise was lost and Hitler's people had time to regroup. Of course, I'm basing this on the movie. I don't know how accurate that Olbricht scene was. I have a question: Did the staff, who made the phone calls for the coup, just blend back into society or were they discovered and killed?

    • @russelltofts3673
      @russelltofts3673 2 роки тому

      Another cardinal error the conspirators made was they did not gain control over the radio station. In any coup, this has to be a top priority. According to the memoirs of Albert Speer "Inside the Third Reich", even Goebbels admitted this was one of the failings that caused the coup to fail.

    • @OhNotThat
      @OhNotThat Рік тому

      The plan couldn't have succeeded, since Hitler WASN'T dead. The plan's idea was to convince the german army and people that the SS assasinated Hitler in a coup, and they're the "counter coup" and thereby quickly consolidate power around themselves and purge the SS and any remaining hitlerites.

    • @mitchpietryga5941
