Hello, late reply - I’m not sure if you received a response, but at the very least for posterity: the “Julie Spencer” technique as was taught to me is essentially the usage of an arm rotation motion (similar to windshield wiping) to hit large alternating intervals with one hand that would be cumbersome or unnecessarily strenuous otherwise to hit with conventional technique. This happens a few times in Eiko-Novikov’s left hand at 0:56 and 4:05, where in order to best adapt the original piano score for marimba, the performer would need to alternate rather quickly in one hand between a singular lower note and a higher dyad.
