This was a fantastic review video. Great job. Could you do the Sunday Roast video? I heard that Hawksmoor have the best Sunday Roast in New York City. It also got good reviews on it too.
They offered many steak choices. It really isn’t entirely fair for you to order the cheapest steak on the menu and compare it to other restaurants that don’t even serve such a cut. That’s not an apples to apples comparison. Having said that, I agree after having had the bone in rib-eye that the Hawksmoor simply isn’t the best steak in the city by a long shot
Ok, so I have not ever heard of this. Quick background, I lived in England for a time. I was in Leicester (about 2.5 hours north of London) and our local joint was Miller & Carter. A chain, like this. It was pretty much how you described this. I never had food that blew my mind while living there, under seasoned, but I'll give it to them for the quality of products. I'd definitely pop in here because of my connection with England, and, well... I love steak 😂 Thank you for another great review sir!!
Another interesting video. Glad to see a honest review. It is a lot of money to spend on food that was not done correctly. So many other places to spend my money in NYC. You mentioned that perhaps that cut of meat was not their best. That may be true but for the money, it should have been well seasoned and charred on both sides. As any steak in a steak house should have been.
as always a FIRE review from UA 🔥 i ate at hawksmoor in nov 2022 on a peak friday night and it felt like i was robbed lmao - the cuts of meat and their side dishes/sauces are for sure a step up from avg grocery store quality but my god i could cook a steak just as well if not better at home myself for a literal sixth of what i paid. service was also ass; our waiter spoke so quietly in a room full of people even after we asked them to repeat themselves multiple times cuz we couldnt hear them. 3/10 experience would not go back / it made me question ever going to a 'fancy' steakhouse again lmao
I've been to Hawksmoor in London and Manchester. Very good restaurant. Had the bone marrow starter, and the Rib-eye, which were excellent. An expensive place though, so probably not high on the value aspect. For a business or date lunch/dinner, it is a good place to go, if budgets are forgiving. 😀
I don’t usually go out to steak houses. Still I was taken aback that the presentation was lacking, absolutely bare! No juice or pan drippings, pat of seasoned butter, not even a spring of parsley. And as you commented, the piece was on the smaller side. Granted higher end restaurants are ala carte but this was so visually unappealing. And under-seared & under-seasoned didn’t help.
I’ve been to hawksmoor a few times - the rib eye is excellent - I always get it with the beef dripping chips and peppercorn sauce 😆. UA you need to go to France the steak frites are incredible and so cheap - had one of the best steaks in my life for just 18 euros with chips and peppercorn sauce included!
In my experience, judging a restaurant during it's off-hours isn't always the fairest to them. They're set up to produce volumes of food with an established process that works best when they're busy. I know this doesn't sound logical, and that you should get more attention to your meal when they are slower. But in practice, I don't find this to be the case. My guess is that during down hours, you don't always ge their best people manning all the critical stations and putting out their best. So I'd take this review with a bit of skepticism.
This is one of your best reviews! Your comments/feedback are on point and your "final thoughts outside" are so honest and transparent. I hate all the kiss-ass reviews that some people are posting. Keep-up the great work!
I disagree that this restaurant isn't great, but I've had several experiences and tried different menu items. UA's reviews are great and fun to watch. We can definitely agree on that!
I know right Vegas is gouge City for a good Steakhouse and whatnot however there is a Hidden Gem in Vegas The Orleans next time you're there a checkout Alder & Birch been going there for quite a few years now while on summer vacation they're filet mignon and lobster tail surf and turf with really good sides are fantastic the seafood bisque and onion soup never disappoint Great Value as well nice quaint atmosphere it's inside the casino but once you're in there it's really nice check it out
Comes down to the chefs in the kitchen and there experiance in the expertise of a perfact timed and seasoned steak . Also up to the manager to over see the qulity to keep up good standards in a place like that . 😉🇦🇺👍awesome vlog .
Great honest review as always the presentation of the steak was like let's just plop it on the plate ! However it did look like a pretty good top round sirloin cooked perfectly or so. The Char thing wouldn't have bothered me as far as flavoring I'm sure you had salt and pepper Shaker on the table if you needed some and for $36 in New York City what can you hope for LOL the desert thing is a matter of taste and they all make it and present it differently what can we say it's all a matter of personal taste
I've never been to Hawksmoor NYC but I've been to the UK restaurants dozens of times. I've never been let down by the steak. It's always cooked to perfection. The sides can be hit and miss. They're always good, but not always special. The best thing is the atmosphere. Even the glitzy one in Canary Wharf is relaxed and you can visit in a hoodie and jeans.
I am from London UK and I had the Ribeye steak from Hawksmoor, Borough Market which was pretty poor. Very chewy. The highlight was the sticky toffee pudding 😊
Rump steak is Sirloin and I never get that because it is at the bottom of the list of tasty cuts. Also If you return then I think that Hawksmoor really shines for their Sunday roast beef lunch, best in the city and their gravy is also to die for!
Was that cut a bit on the leaner side? Looked like it was from the video. Do you think this took away from the flavor? I tend to like fattier cuts like ribeye or NY strip
Spot on about the dessert. Another accurate review. Been several times as I work close by and it's all OK to good, but never great (and should be for their prices) and they are a tad stingy on items they don't have to be. The ice cream in that dessert is a great example. Not sure about best steak house but I can tell you it's not Jose Andres' Bazaar Meat in Vegas.
I paid over $120 for the bone in rib eye and it was not very tender, despite being cooked perfectly medium rare. It feels like the quality of the meat there just isn't very high, and the prices are outrageous. My meal was around $250 with steak, salad, sides, bacon starter, dessert and tax and tip. After leaving a less than stellar review on Yelp, management did reach out earnestly to ask me back to fix the experience, which unless comped, would be a hard sell for me.
To try Hawksmoor properly you need to go for ribeye + equally important: mash potatoes and creamed spinach. The sides in general are the best I have ever treid in any steakhouse around the world.
If that steak had the same crust all over, it would`ve been what`s called.... " charred "............There has to be a soft spot in the middle..........nice video.....👍
Dude, you're in New York!! And you're eating at Hawksmoore! $50 is indeed an appropriate price for that establishment and you're complaining about the cost?? You don't go to Hawksmore and penny pinch. You go to spend $$$ on a delicious steak along with sides.
I found Keen's underwhelming...steak was underseasoned, took a long time, and the table next to us was drunk beyond reason (and they dropped plates/cups!). IDC how wealthy they are, that they didn't even address their behavior was disappointing. Nice vibes tho.
Does that Steak not have any sauce for it? I mean don't they serve with a sauce nor salad/toppings? I think here: A tiny spoon Balsamic Vinegar besides salt & pepper would enhance the Flavor to a next level of that Plain Steak:) or at least a dark sauce...
Shouldn't you start wearing a disguise or something, like the bigshot New York food critics? Otherwise it's going to be; "Hey there's UA, we better not screw this up."
Good review. I went to Hawksmoor and the most tender cut, filet mignon, was scarily tough and stringy. It looked like no other filet mignon I had ever had before, and it didn't look good! Even the server agreed that the meat was strangely fibrous, although the staff didn't see too contrite about it. Sides were meh. Huge disappointment. Trendiness over inherent quality. And EXPENSIVE.
This review is odd. He’s comparing the cheapest cut to higher cuts at other spots? Zero sides? No high end steakhouse has mains that come with sides. Kind of hard to judge this place with that incomplete order.
I like your videos and fair play the sear wasn't great, but you can't compare apples to oranges , Old Homestead is like 16 ounces and it was priced appropriately this is almost half the price just saying.
From scotland & i have never heard of them before. That steak was not worth the $$$. Love you're videos. But this is in no way like here in the U.K You really need to Come over.
It wasn't explained so I will ask here: Is the steak served in the UK British beef and is the steak served in the NYC is American? If so, isn't there a difference in taste?
Hardly the WHOLE UK... Dublin Edinburgh Liverpool London - Air Street London - Borough London - Guildhall London - Knightsbridge London - Seven Dials London - Spitalfields London - Wood Wharf Manchester
Fair point. I will be completely transparent though, these steakhouses are expensive. I could only afford either dessert or a side and I chose dessert since I heard it was highly recommended
Have watched numerous reviews by UA and fail to understand. Most people go out to eat for a great experience and foods you crave or the exotic and interesting. @@uaeats You're reviews are fantastic! Thanks for having an open mind! If you go back, try some of the other offerings, and I recommend the bar area :)
should have at least gotten the ribeye. you can't get literally the worst cut of beef and judge the entire experience based on that. Their rib chop and ribeye are the best I've had in nyc
The best steak in the world is the one you cook yourself at home. Go to a good butcher, spend 50, 100 whatever. Take it home, let it get to room temp and off you go. Whether its in a heavy pan with butter and salt or over a grill, thats the best steak you will ever have.
That steak really was underwhelming-- and with no sides and minimal seasoning you can't really recover. Dessert was a dud with that tiny quenelle of ice cream. That's an avoid for me---thanks UA! Thumbs up!

It isn’t the best, but it’s def solid. Especially the NY strip and other more premium cuts
Thanks for that very honest review. You've saved me some time and money. 👍
You're welcome!
UA this was a fantastic review! Love that you are critical and not too laudatory! Makes for really interesting reviews.

Thanks UA! Even when you find a Restaurant underwhelming, your review is always interesting and fun to watch! Cheers!

Yeah, I of course will not expect a rump/sirloin steak to taste like a ribeye, but the lack of seasoning was a letdown
The steak was cooked in a cast iron pan, so there won't be any char.
Hawksmoor is one of my favorite restaurants. Sunday roast dinners.
as always a FIRE review from UA 🔥
i ate at hawksmoor in nov 2022 on a peak friday night and it felt like i was robbed lmao - the cuts of meat and their side dishes/sauces are for sure a step up from avg grocery store quality but my god i could cook a steak just as well if not better at home myself for a literal sixth of what i paid.

Was that cut a bit on the leaner side? Looked like it was from the video. Do you think this took away from the flavor? I tend to like fattier cuts like ribeye or NY strip
Yeah top sirloin (called rump at this place) will be more lean. Still, the lack of seasoning and crust throughout was disappointing
I had the ribeye in London and was just phenomenal
