During Phase 1 cheese RG swords for DT DST Breaking a thumb to press Y B at once helps. You can also Cerberus Ice Age v^Y lots of swords, they will bounce back it him.
You make it look so easy, I've been trying for 3 hours and can't beat him. When he makes a copy of himself, I can't find a moment to hit him, and I can't guard either
If you're still having trouble to this day, my advise would be that when you're in the 2nd phase, save up some DT guage. Only go DT when he summons doppelganger, use Trickster for an easy maneuver and I think it takes 1-2 stingers on DT form to destroy his copy. At least that's what I do. Hope it helps.
I just beat Virgil on son of Sparta and was far more passive. I mainly did this fight at range or in the air. For the majority of the fight I would summon swords and charge Ebony and ivory to break his block. If I could reach him I would send him in the air and juggle him until he is knocked back. Often I would overdrive Virgil while charging more swords. Not SSS rank tips, but it got me through. When Virgil would DT or add a doppelganger I would DT gunslinger so that I am automatically shooting swords, regaining health and dodging all of his attacks. I would try to dump power into SDT if I was full on health and DT. Virgil I have found requires a lot of Skill to beat in an aggressive way, if you don't have said skill you must go from all out aggression to reactivate defensive play.

Hoping to beat him tomorrow. I love the characters and world in DMC but man I really suck at these games. DMCV has been the hardest for me for constantly changing characters and never getting used to their move sets. When I do the story then focuses on another character and by the time I play as them again I need to readjust everything again. Would have preferred having the option to play through each characters missions back to back, I get this wouldn't work for the narrative of the story but that's just me.
I'm trying a no damage DMD run and it's extremely hard. After the flight phase shit just gets real, and I can't find the timing to guard the Judgement Cut End ... I did it a few times by accident.
Literally just beat it after watching this video and reading comments lol. My advice: use trickster spam, running away until you find an opening then combo TF out of him (air combo included, followed by forward attacking him). Next switch to gunslinger have the shotgun to use to attack the swords that circles around you switch back to trickster and keep dodging every single attack until you find an opening again it’s not easy but I did get the job done. Hope it helps.❤

Hey man, great vid! im just a newbie, i didnt understand what to do when virgil surrounds his energy swords around nero and dante, what can I do to counter this with nero?
With Dante, switch to "Devil Sword Dante", go into Sword Master and press Circle (PS4) or B (Xbox). Dante will use his conjure swords which breaks Vergil's. Another thing you can do with Dante is use Balrog and just jump with it. Its jump does damage so it'll break the summoned swords. I haven't done the fight enough with Nero but I just jump in the air and do a basic combo to get rid of them. Hope this helps!

what I learned as a guy who's struggling in the sun of sparda difficulty:
1. royal guard isn't on my keyboard for decoration
2. red swords go woosh

I use Devil Sword Dante's "round trip" on it and it dies quickly, it doesn't have a lot of health.
i never touched royal guard before dmc5 because it seemed too complicated. but in 5 it's very easy to master

If you're not blocking at the last second, it uses up your Devil Trigger gauge and when that runs out, he's able to break your guard.
