Always enjoy your videos Aaron. It truly is amazing what can be used/tuned for an antenna. I run my G 90 from home with an indoor (attic) short G5RV with counterpose wires. Its 1:1 flat on most of the bands and nothing crazy on the others except 160. 73 de N2VQD
Choke by the antenna, thank you for this info! That looks like an ABR? I really enjoy your videos Aaron, you have a Bob Ross kinda vibe [in a great way] love to watch you paint with dits and dahs. Best!
I often use a 17' whip with a raised (tuned) counterpoise and one of those 3/8-24 clamp mounts. A few times I really fought to get it to tune and I think it's because I was clamping to a park grill, which was acting like a non-resonant counterpoise/radial. I'm pretty sure I was bitten by the "everything affects everything" monster. It tunes up like a champ clamped to something wooden.
I bet you’re right! A grill would add to the overall ground length. It really does all interact. But the raised counterpoise is quite the hack, I’ve gotten some of my best DX contacts QRP with a compromise vertical and 1 tuned raised counterpoise.
@@w4arb Agreed. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made raising it up. Some claim you should use two, but I've had excellent results with just one.
I’ve had a hell of a time tuning verticals. You piqued my interest with the choke comment. I usually run a shorter coax with various chokes. 73 om great activation in beautiful Tuskegee
Thanks for the video. That's a nice set-up. I would love to set my rig up here in Cambodia, but the fees are very expensive lol. We plan to use Ham as one of our programs to teach tech in public schools. Kindest Regards, Dan AB3RQ
Love your Icom bag!🎉❤
It’s a great bag, albeit a bit spendy

Great video Aaron, lots of pine needles this time of year. 73 Paul KE9BHN
Thank you Paul! There sure are, especially in Tuskegee NF
thanks for sharin Aaron - i once used a barb wire fence for an antenna - and yep the G90 tuned it to less than 3/1 lol take care 73 ditdit
That’s awesome! I bet it worked pretty well. 73!
@@w4arb worked ok for hunting - i spect it wud have been ok activating to lol

Thank you! I like that analogy. Yep, I only use ABR coax now. It’s reliable
Great activation, Aaron! Glad to get in your log. 73 es cu on the air de K4FR (im still getting used to it too) :)
HAHA man I am sorry, I 100% butchered your call. Listened back when I got home and just shook my head at my own screw up 😂 thanks for the contact! 73

Glad I’m not the only one that need to have Yeti facing me instead of upside down 😂
Drives me crazy when it’s backwards! 😅

the radials/counterpoise is the key to verticals. come on down to Alabama and I’ll give ya a vertical crash course! 🤘🏼
