Former WDWRR engineer (and many other things) here! The noise the steam train makes is called a "Blowdown Procedure". It opens a valve in the bottom of the boiler that ejects any contaminants (like minerals) that precipitate out of the heated water in the boiler. Very noisy due to the rapid release of water and steam under immense pressure into the blowdown pit. You definitely do not want to be near the pipe or pit during this procedure . Keeps the inside of the boiler clean of sediments and prevents scale from forming. IIRC this is done by the fireman in the left seat, engineer sits on the right.
Agreed sound everything all together crickets, bullfrogs, banjo well deserving #1. One thing I admit though I never listened close enough until this video to hear the song played on banjo is "Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me. I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee."
You had to go a make my cry. Coming up to 4 years since I lost my oldest sister to colon cancer. I miss her everyday, but my last time spent with her was at Disneyland so it is extra special. Thank you for the virtual hug. I'm hugging you right back.
I'm shocked the train whistle and boarding announcement didn't make the list. That's my favorite by far! It's the first thing you hear when entering the park!!
❤ thank you for your kind words today. A little over a year ago we lost our youngest daughter to cancer. A few months later my husband and I met you, Amanda and Mills on the train at Disneyland. We were so happy to meet you that we for got to take a picture. But meeting you and meeting your family brought joy and put a smile on our faces. Your amazing Chris. May God bless you.
Thank you for your videos and for your kind message about loss. We recently went to Disneyland for the first time since our 18 year old son passed away. It was a bitter sweet day for our family. He absolutely loved Disneyland and we used to have annual passes and went all the time. It was his favorite place. For our family it was a day filled with happy memories, new adventures and at times excruciating sadness because we were missing him so much. So hard to explain but it was joy, love and agony all rolled into one. He will forever be in our hearts and part of our time spent at Disneyland.
This video is awesome and I've enjoyed it, but the horses hooves clip clopping literally had me visibly relaxing. Deep breath in and out, sigh, and shoulder drop as my back relaxed. I love it. Also, the horse looking to see if it was clear before going. What an awesome animal. Disney thinks of everything!
Thank you for this. I did enjoy your trip around the park sharing the sounds. Also thank you for the kind words for grieving. My brother was hit by a hit and run driver just one month ago. His sudden and unexpected death hits me some days and makes me appreciate that I am still here to share life with my family and friends. No one responsible has been found yet. Keep doing what you do. Your positive attitude is wonderful.
Thank you Chris. My 23 yr old son died 3 weeks ago and I needed to hear your words today❤ Thank you for Disneyland sounds too! They are comforting as well.
So sorry for your loss. May time heal your heart and the memories bring you comfort and joy. My brother was killed a month ago by a hit and run driver. I find myself sad some days for his loss.
I really thought #1 was going to be the Mark Twain whistle. It's one of those iconic sounds you can hear from outside the park and gets me all excited. I also expected the "tick-tock" from the Small World clock. I love that sound. I used to arrive early for my shifts and hear it from an empty Main Street. Two others of my favorites are the Big Thunder train whistle and chugging sounds and the whole combination of sounds from the Matterhorn. Howling wind, the roaring of Harold the abominable snowman, the waterfalls, the bobsleds racing by, and the screaming of the people.
Back in the late 50's though the late 60's, we lived from 4 miles then 2 miles away from Disneyland. You could hear that steamboat whistle though out Anaheim. An iconic sound.
Thank you Chris, I think you should do a part two. The Mark Twain River Boat, big Thunder train going by with the whistle (big Thunder trail) The canon going off on the Columbia, The clock it’s a small world, main Street station train “ your attention please”, the sounds under the toon town underpass.
Part 2 of the best sounds of Disneyland is something I strongly suggest you do. Nothing beats the sounds on Main Street. When I walk into Disneyland, it brings me back to a time when I wasn't born yet and looking at it now makes me appreciate it even more. The sounds on Center Street from above add a lot of charm to start my Disney day.
Thank you so much for making this video Chris! I absolutely love the sounds of Disneyland and DCA, because every time I hear them I feel like I am home and safe. I really appreciate the amount of detail the Imagineers go into with even the music and sounds, and I really appreciate it as someone who is very sensory orientated with sounds. These sounds help me feel calm and centered, especially on rough days. So thank you for taking the time to make a video like this because it truly made my day!!❤
My favorite sounds are the little buildings off Main Street, with the “painless” dentist, the piano instructor and the hotel. I love just taking a moment to sit still and wait for these little treasures, and they are a great reminder of Walt’s love for attention to detail. It always amazes me how many people don’t know these little gems are even there! I absolutely love them.
I was shocked the Matterhorn didn't even make the list!!! I would LOVE a part 2 if you get around to it. The Banjo was surprising to me and I guessed Autopia. Thanks so much for doing this Chris. I really enjoyed it :)
It amazes me how, when people describe the beginning part of Pirates, they say that the old man on his porch is playing a banjo. He's actually just rocking in his chair and you can hear the banjo playing. Was there a time when he used to hold a banjo?
Just wanted to say Chris as someone who has recently lost my best friend since I was 18 he was a year older then me and your message hit wonderfully. I live my life creating laughter and wonder with my comedy and magic and when I have a beer in the evening I 9 times out of 10 raise a toast to my mate and the way you worded it gave me comfort that he would be proud of me. Much love and I wish you and your family all the happiness in the world and all the time in the world to spend it.
Thank you for the message today! We lost our mom last night! You have no idea what this message meant to me! I take this message as a sign from mom to be happy! Thank you Chris!❤❤
My favorite is the announcement on the Matterhorn. “ Remain seated please” both in English and Spanish. Permanecer Sentados por favor. When I hear that I’m at Disneyland
The banjo is a bit of a cheat, though...because it's still a song... it's OH, Susannah. If it was presented as "the swamp" then it would fit, I think. I didn't vote in the survey but when I first heard this I immediately also thought of POC... but it wasn't the banjo, it was the sound of the raft launching.
This has to be one of my favorite posts ever! The sounds from Disneyland hit in the heart ❤ Also thank you for taking time out in your videos to connect on a very human level. You never know what someone is going through and your words of encouragement are so thoughtful and kind ❤
I was meant to watch this video today & hear your special message Chris. I lost my dear sweet cousin Chrissy early this morning. She was treated by some family members to visit Disneyland for the first time ever in 2019 to celebrate her 50th birthday. I sadly wasn't able to join my cousin on that trip. But last year I did get to visit Disneyland & I sent her a photo of me with Winnie-the-Pooh whom was her favorite Disney character. I'm visiting Disneyland later this month and this trip will be such a special time for me in so many ways. But omg thank you for what you do Chris.
Thank you for this video, such a great idea. I totally agree with #1…..once we rode pirates, we DID feel like we were on vacation. The smell of chlorine when you walk in the ride AND, we named the banjo player….Fred …and always say hi to him as we go by. Hi Fred!
Great idea Chris, my favorite sound did not make the list on this one. The roar of The Abominable Snowman on Matterhorn Bobsleds. +1 for your next list! 👍
These sounds evoke such pleasant memories. They emotionally put you back in the time when you had no worries, no deadlines, only a sense of freedom knowing good things are coming your way. I had a file on my work computer with all my favorite sounds. Number one for me was the train whistle and narration. Now if I could have only carried the scents... popcorn, Mexican food, the scent of water from Splash Mountain or the lake. The cookie scent on Main Street...
Can’t wait to be there and hear the sounds, as well as see everything. We will be there to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 3 weeks. So excited! (Steve and Pam)
Last October I was in charge of my disabled grandson 7 years old, can't walk or talk, we were in tomorrow land by the water rock/ball at 11pm. Not much people around and the music was so soothing (kind of a tinkle sound) that he sat there for 40 minutes watching all the neon lights and listening to the music - I will never forget that sound now.
I was 12 the last time I went to Disneyland, and even back then, I loved the sound and ambiance of Frontier land, grizzly peaks, and adventure land. Those sights and sounds are the things I remember most about Disneyland. Anyways, I just started College and I saw this video and memories of the ambiance of Disney and my childhood started to fly back at me. Thank you for providing me with a little nostalgia 🥲
Thank you for this video. My family and I are going back for our annual trip and the kids loved guessing what sound would be announced next in your video. We also use that time to celebrate our son’s birthday who went to heaven 3 years ago at age 7. How sweet of you to connect with everyone who has a loss. Thank you!!
I watched this yesterday but have been thinking about your message all day today. I can't thank you enough for this particular message. It had me sobbing, as it hit so close to home. I pretty much hide from everyone the anguish I feel every day. Words can't express what your message in this video meant to me. Although it doesn't change how I feel, it was appreciated from the very bottom of what's left of my heart. ♥
Ah, Chris, you made me tear up when you were talking about those we've lost. I lost my sister 9 years ago, when she was only 39. There are days and times that it hurts to remember her, but I have moved on in a healthy way. You reminded me of those who have a harder time than I have had in putting my love for her in a healthy place. God Bless Them! I wish you the peace that I have.
Yes- please do a part 2! My favorite sound is the train whistle on Big Thunder mountain. Hearing that whistle and train speeding on that track makes me smile every time.
My top 7 are 1. Train conductor and train whistle. 2. Pirates blue bayou sounds Banjo! 3. Main Street cars. 4. Howl of wind on the Matterhorn 5. Tiki room birds opening banter… “my siestas are getting shorter and shorter” 6. Monorail 7. Big thunder! (Bonus 8. Screams on the drop at Splash Mtn) Most magical place for me. My audio therapy!
This was my first time watching your video (my wife and I are huge disney fans). We had to recently rehome our dog because of circumstances outside of our control. And your message to your viewers left my wife in tears and left me so thankful for the encouragement. Thank you again.
This was a wonderful video Thank you for your message about grief. I recently lost someone and I needed to hear that. I’m sure you help a lot of people.
Loved this video, which I listened to instead or watching! I would add the creaking of the boats in Pirates, the ticking of the Small World clock, the train of Big Thunder, and the railroad announcement, especially on Main Street.
My favorite sound is the train announcement "all aboard!". But adventure land has my favorite sounds when you compare it by land. Thanks Chris love this!
I’m surprised at just how much I loved this video. And not just because I also voted for Pirates lol! That ride takes its time to transport you into the world. It becomes so quiet and serene, giving your brain time to leave the world behind and embrace the ambiance. Loving the originality of the video too. Please do more fun stuff like this!
16:04 that bell is my childhood. First, I was a horse girl and loved saying hi to the horses and giving them pets. Not sure if you can do that now. But that bell is like...the sound of the start of your Disneyland day!
I love the sound of Pirates, entering the boats. I just love the sounds you get when you walk in under the train bridge, i usually just sigh i've come home to play. ❤
Chris, I procrastinated watching your video this last week because I lost a very dear loved one last week suddenly. Normally I love hearing your encouraging words and just keep watching, but this time I broke down crying because it’s exactly what I needed to hear. You said all the right things. Thanks for including these in your videos❤️ I never got to take him to Disneyland like I wanted but I know he’ll be with us in spirit while we’re there.
Love all these sounds ! Not my exact top 5 but for real I would have NEVER guessed that #1 sound. Wow!!!! It is amazing! My husband guessed that the turnstile clicks would be number one because it reminds us of the beginning of our trip!!!🎉
Thanks for the message, Chris. It happens to be my birthday today, and the first one after my mom passed, so there are a few moments that have been bittersweet for me today.
Yes! The banjo. Makes me feel 5 with all the wonder again! The other one that is just pure nostalgia is the 4 pitch chime on Star Tours. This was such a fun video! Part two, please!
We stayed at the hotel you noted in this video seven years ago. It was conveniently close. Loved hearing what other people find favorite sounds. I love them all. One that wasn't mentioned this time is the whistle of the Mark Twain. Thank you also for the kind words and virtual hug as my Mom passed away two weeks ago. She was 93.
Couple more are the sounds of the big thunder mountain train whistling or the Toontown fireworks factory. In DCA, there is the "3..2...1... go" from the Incredicoaster pier or Mr potato head talking in front of Midway Mania. Keep up the awesome videos
Absolutely wonderful video but the personal message towards the end means so much to me. I have watched this particular video about five times just to hear the message you give. 🤗👌❤️
Wow, I didn't realize how emotional I'd get after hearing these sounds. I've only been to Disneyland 4 times but I'm such a fan, and hope I can get more trips in. I love how all these sounds are tied to memories of happiness, excitement, joy, and magic. Thanks for creating this video!
Great video Chris. But I got to say the noise the floating bridge makes on tom sawyer Island. My 1st trip in 1963 that was my favorite place. There was POC, or New Orleans squre at thT time.
Thank you! Chris for this, always love the sounds of Disneyland Resort . I'm 52 and the sounds always bring me a childhood calm. Maybe a show on the smells of Disneyland, we know POC water tends to be intoxicating to many Disney fans😂😂
some of my favorites include - the sound of Big Thunder speeding down the rails. the sound Pluto makes. The sound of the last "click" before going down the first drop on Pirates. The ear pressure difference when you first enter Main Street square from under the railroad bridges. It's such a good feeling / sound.
Chris, your messages are the best sounds by far. Hear your kindness, your heart, and the sound of love from your messages . That's the best sound from Disneyland
I thought for sure one of the sounds would’ve been when you scan your ticket at the gate, the sweet whistle! And it’s funny that the banjo is not even played by old man! Love this, thank you!

Love this 💙💚
Nothing beats the railroad sounds. Especially the "YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!"
These are always my favorite 🥰
Blow down... steam removes scale deposit from boiler😅
The train bell for me ❤ yeahhhhh
I was so sure the train was number 1....
The announcement is definitely in my top 5.
Former WDWRR engineer (and many other things) here! The noise the steam train makes is called a "Blowdown Procedure". I can’t believe the whistle and sounds of Big Thunder Mountain wasn’t on the list!!! I love sitting at Rancho Del Zocalo and listening to that!!❤
Pirates is also my favorite smell. I love the smell when you walk into the building. Its what makes me feel like I am at Disneyland proper.
Agreed sound everything all together crickets, bullfrogs, banjo well deserving #1. One thing I admit though I never listened close enough until this video to hear the song played on banjo is "Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me. I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee."

Me too! Now I need to hear it...
ikr?!?
Love that banjo sound when you're in the Pirates of the Caribbean, once again, thanks Chris.😂
❤ thank you for your kind words today.
A little over a year ago we lost our youngest daughter to cancer. A few months later my husband and I met you, Amanda and Mills on the train at Disneyland. Jungle Boats motor is my #1.
Glad that you choose Disneyland california.
Thanks for including the horses in the Main Street sounds. They are iconic. I was surprised the Mark Twain whistle didn't make it onto the list.
Literally, just thinkging the same thing!

I so sorry. 💙💚
I’m so sorry for your loss….😢
🙏🏼
I hope his memory is a blessing to you and to all who love him. ❤❤❤

Back in the late 50's though the late 60's, we lived from 4 miles then 2 miles away from Disneyland. You could hear that steamboat whistle though out Anaheim. An iconic sound.
I do not speak Spanish, but I always loved hearing "Permanecer sentados por favor" at the end of the Matterhorn.
Again! thank you for your affirmations! Lost dad and taking care of mom . Thank you Chris. Family loss is always hard. 💞💕💗💓🙏💪
Thank you Chris, I think you should do a part two. The Mark Twain River Boat, big Thunder train going by with the whistle (big Thunder trail) The canon going off on the Columbia, The clock it’s a small world, main Street station train “ your attention please”, the sounds under the toon town underpass.
Great idea!
nice, i voted for the the morse code telegraph at the railway station
So thank you for taking the time to make a video like this because it truly made my day!!❤
Main Street, song: Put on your Sunday Clothes from Hello Dolly.
I’ve never heard of these. Where are they?
@@Liz_in_the_OC Down the side street to your right as you walk up to the castle. There are similar hidden sounds in New orleans, near the rest rooms.
I was shocked the Matterhorn didn't even make the list!!! I would LOVE a part 2 if you get around to it. The Banjo was surprising to me and I guessed Autopia. Thanks so much for doing this Chris. I really enjoyed it :)
Love these but my favorite sound is the thunder mountain whistle
I love the train sounds and announcements! at the entrance!
It amazes me how, when people describe the beginning part of Pirates, they say that the old man on his porch is playing a banjo. He's actually just rocking in his chair and you can hear the banjo playing. Was there a time when he used to hold a banjo?
Hearing the banjo brought a huge smile to my face. Thank you so much for all the amazing Disney vlogs
You are so welcome
The Main Street horse really got me emotional. It brought back so many good memories of Disneyland. Thank you for the nostalgia.
My favorite is the announcement on the Matterhorn. “ Remain seated please” both in English and Spanish. Permanecer Sentados por favor. When I hear that I’m at Disneyland
The first sound you have sounds like Cables of the Cablecars in San Francisco, Ca
Also the snoring bear in cave in Country Bear jamboree !
Thanks for the virtual hug! You're the best. 😊
Any time!
The Star Tours jingle is one of my favorites.
This has to be one of my favorite posts ever! The sounds from Disneyland hit in the heart ❤ Also thank you for taking time out in your videos to connect on a very human level. You never know what someone is going through and your words of encouragement are so thoughtful and kind ❤
You are so welcome!
Chris, please come to WDW and do this list for each park! I'll start the voting - Test Track in EPCOT.
I was meant to watch this video today & hear your special message Chris. I lost my dear sweet cousin Chrissy early this morning. I really love the sound of the clock on small world at night when the park is closing and that’s all you hear🥰

Great idea Chris, my favorite sound did not make the list on this one. The roar of The Abominable Snowman on Matterhorn Bobsleds. +1 for your next list! 👍
Favorite sound of Disney past? Mine is Rufus the Bear snoring!

Thank you for your kind words about losing someone. Had me in tears but, thanks to you, tears of joy and positivity.
Please do a smells of Disneyland video! The pirates water, the old wood musty smell (THIS smell is Disneyland for me!), the popcorn….
Always fun to see what others like about our favorite place on earth!
I watched this yesterday but have been thinking about your message all day today. I can't thank you enough for this particular message. It had me sobbing, as it hit so close to home. I pretty much hide from everyone the anguish I feel every day. Words can't express what your message in this video meant to me. I totally understand what you mean. Virtual hug 💙💚
Ah, Chris, you made me tear up when you were talking about those we've lost. I lost my sister 9 years ago, when she was only 39. You reminded me of those who have a harder time than I have had in putting my love for her in a healthy place. God Bless Them! I wish you the peace that I have.
The first six were good sounds. THe banjo..... that was absolutely a solid yep from me. ❤❤❤
I would have voted for the narration from Haunted Mansion elevator room that ends with "there's always my way." :)
Yes- please do a part 2! My favorite sound is the train whistle on Big Thunder mountain. Hearing that whistle and train speeding on that track makes me smile every time.
Wow! You left no sound unheard. Every sound that we could have heard in each area was covered. Thanks Chris. Here's a virtual high five.🤚
Oh wow! Right back at ya 🖐️
My top 7 are 1. Train conductor and train whistle. 2. Pirates blue bayou sounds Banjo! 3. Main Street cars.
4. Howl of wind on the Matterhorn 5. Tiki room birds opening banter… “my siestas are getting shorter and shorter”
6. Monorail
7. Big thunder!
(Bonus 8. Screams on the drop at Splash Mtn)
Most magical place for me. My audio therapy!
That’s a solid list!
This was my first time watching your video (my wife and I are huge disney fans). We had to recently rehome our dog because of circumstances outside of our control. And your message to your viewers left my wife in tears and left me so thankful for the encouragement. Thank you again.
This was a wonderful video
Thank you for your message about grief.
Happy Birthday Chris. Hope you are having a great day. Thanks for the video. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much
My favorite sound is the train announcement "all aboard!". But adventure land has my favorite sounds when you compare it by land. Thanks Chris love this!
I can't believe that's exactly the sound I was thinking of. I Haven't been there since 1979, but that is an indellable memory for me. ❤
These are the type of vids I love. More of this plz.
16:04 that bell is my childhood. First, I was a horse girl and loved saying hi to the horses and giving them pets. Not sure if you can do that now. But that bell is like...the sound of the start of your Disneyland day!
I really appreciate your words of encouragement. Amazing kindness.
You are so welcome
I love the sound of Pirates, entering the boats. I just love the sounds you get when you walk in under the train bridge, i usually just sigh i've come home to play. ❤
Chris, what a fun video!!, I’m stunned that the Mark Twain steam whistle didn’t make the list😩
i would a video (or videos) on the park music, past and present :)
Part 2 please! More Disneyland sounds
That list can be hundreds long. 👍🏼✌🏼😋
You got that right!
Best Sounds is one of your best videos lately. Really enjoyed it and reminded my of years past.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video thanks Chris
Glad you enjoyed it
The space sounds while waiting in line for Space Mountain!
Today is also my birthday. 💙💚
@provostparkpass I thought yours was the 28th! I guess we're birthday twins!
@@provostparkpass BTW Happy Birthday!
Yes! The banjo. Makes me feel 5 with all the wonder again! The other one that is just pure nostalgia is the 4 pitch chime on Star Tours. This was such a fun video! Part two, please!
The noise big thunder makes when it flies by the queue is by far my favorite!
Legitimately shook that the sound of Big Thunder Mountain train going by isn't up there, gotta by my favorite.
Thank you for the grief talk on this one. I lost my mom unexpectedly and needed to hear this
Absolutely wonderful video but the personal message towards the end means so much to me. I have watched this particular video about five times just to hear the message you give. 🤗👌❤️
Super fun video Chris! I appreciate your long clips of each sound. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My favorite sound is the announcement at Matterhorn: “Remain seated please. Permanense sentados por favor”. It helped me to learn Spanish!
Happy Birthday! 🎂🎉🎈
Thank you!!
This is such a random topic and I am HERE FOR IT. Thanks Chris!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Sensational video! Thanks. 💕
You are so welcome!
Love this, thank you!
the sound as you go down Splash Mountain
Too many amazing sounds at the Disneyland Resort! And I love Autopia - it’s so fun.
