This video was a life saver. The bolt was completely seized on mine in a similar way and having watched this video before I started meant I was already one step ahead in knowing that I could just attach the new arm to part of the old one. 👍
It’s a horrible design, I think you’d have to cut it off and swap out the motor. Luckily enough, that arm joint is a life saver, if it’s still there.

You may have to cut it off and remove the motor. Worst design, expensive if the window breaks.🙄

@@drivewaydiyer6504 Just completed it after much swearing lol The nut was stuck fast and not even plus gas would free it off so went for your method but even with thin nose pliers I couldn't get the hook of the spring over the bar. In the end I had to fit the spring over the bars with the arm detached and pull the arm over the rear window mounting. Thanks for your advice anyway 👍

Thank-you for this demo and in particular the issues of the bolt and arm interface. As others mention the design of the system is such that that even with the cover the bolt seises very tightly and there is a very strong danger that you can break the rear windscreen if you try to lever it off as opposed to lift it off as you rightly say is the correct method.
As you suggest use a fine oil as W D 40 (science in a can -:)) and work it in carefully, I had to "drown" mine and left it over night (14 hours actually) but still an issue pulling the bar off from the spigot bolt which is ridged, to fit the replacement arm. interface.
A large pair of hand clamps (Stillsons) to get a grip over the top of the fitting like a cork screw action, and not for the side and the pull on that, adding more lubrication top of the bolt spigot, letting it rest, and the pull it again let it rest and then one final tug. until the arm came free. Did need a littler leverage with a very small screwdriver but careful not to touch the screen just the rubber motor cover.
That gave enough torque to be able to pull off the who arm using the hand clamps almost like a cork -screw . An absurd design error by GM and I would suggest deliberate as they sell a special tool separately. £3.06 off e-bay, but cost of delivery more than the part ! -:)
Fitting new parts the wiper arm needed a bit of testing to make sure that it did sweep the window and not part of the body work.
Best way was to leave the arm off and then turn the rear wiper motor on and mark the point on the spigot to the limits left and right of the arc of the arm's travel.
Loosely place the nut over the spigot so just enough torque to hold in lightly in place and then test the movement by turning the rear wiper switch on the car to make sure the swing of the blade did cover the screen and not the paint body work as well..
Once tested (needed a slight adjustment to the arm and mounting angle) then bolted on to fit tight, but again not over tighten,
Ridiculous amount of work to deal with something simple, and should not need to be done in the first place if the mounting was stronger to deal with what was only 5 degrees of frost on the screen and the blade frozen to the screen but although partly lifted of the arm not strong enough to deal with the torque and snapped.
Of note that the original Vauxhall Novas' (1983->) had a similar issue with their front window wiper mechanism which meant if the wipers froze to the screen the linkage would break and a whole new system put in to place.
Again raises the question whether these "design faults" are deliberate
Local dealer was going to charge me £25 just for the fitting, let lone the part.
Part purchased of the interent, neoprene and better qaulity than the original and half the price.

the opel corsa c back one comes off and its splined they must hammer the things on with a 5 pound mallet.

Did you try turning it anti-clockwise when you couldn’t pull it off? We did that and it came off easily so we could but the new one on.
Yeah, I did all that. I got to the point of worrying about the glass. I wondered if they’d used lock tight on it.
Mine is a 57 plate and I’ve tried to remove the arm to adjust the height of the arm and it’s definitely welded it self to it .
It’s a dreadful design, you’ll probably have to cut the arm off and replace it. Probably worth leaving it.👍
How did you get the spring to stretch? Ive tried to do the same but cant get the spring to reach
Leanne Herald attach the spring first, then the hinge, then push it on. The arm needs to be pulled towards you first.
I had this same problem. Tried and failed a few times. I attached it to the part that came with it (i.e. the new version of the bit that won't come off) and pulled it tight a good number of times. Then managed to fit it to the car. I guess the pulling around with the new bit stretched it a bit.
When it worked I had the arm facing along the rear windscreen rather than sticking out towards me like I thought might have been best.
I used a pair of long nose pliers and it did the trick.
I have the same problem. How did you install the new ones to the old one on the car? You didn’t show it.
You hook both sides of the spring, one end to the new and other to the old, the hen attach the elbow. Takes a bit of strength, but it will go in.

@rainman9663 if you’ve bought a whole wiper arm, then practice on that first, then you’ll get the gist of it.
Had the same problem with it being seized but thankfully it unstuck just after I got the spring off. Which is good because it looks like the arm that came off doesn't just unclip from the motor fixing, looks as though there is a pin in it that would somehow have to come out! (astra gtc 15)

Yep mine seems seized as well, not sure if I'm going to bother with tool to try and get it off but my issue is the end part where the blade attached is snapped so the arms still on the car. My question then (before I start butchering stuff) is it possible to remove the spring and arm that is attached to the car the way you took apart the new one?
If it’s the same, you should be able to do that. It worked for me. They are a dreadful design. If the wiper motor fails, looks like I’ll be cutting it off. Thanks for watching.👍
@@drivewaydiyer6504 thanks for the reply, looking at the technique you did again I don't actually think its possible to remove it like that when on the car as the way you bent it... It would need to be bent into the rear screen which of course is not possible.
@@robradtke8014 cheers mate, good advice but luckily for me I went at it two pairs of mole (vice grips) and using these in Tandem on the end of the thread and behind arm it pinged off thankfully 😅. Ended up buying a second hand vauxhall part as those new cheap replicas on ebay are well just dog turd!

Mine seized too 6yrs new maybe they turn on with the thread, threaded on like the bolt, but i cant get mine to turn and dont wont to break it they must glue or press them on under presssure so you hab too buy a new one and get them to fit it.
I know a few people who take this off, as in dewipering their car. You his thing is seized. Fortunately the part where the spring attaches to is very strong, so can be repaired. If that bit breaks or the motor stops working, your cutting it off. Terrible design.👍
My motor has packed up on mine.... bought a replacement but the arm is ceased to hell. Angle grinder it is. Why are things never simple! Half hour job turns into a three week job 🙄🙄🙄

Bit of frost and snap Had to cut mine but the metal inside the wiper arm is still on the thread and looks, putting it politely fucked. 😂😂 Where would i go from here ?

you could have just super-glued it on...as good as replacement as this is...
It was easy to do this, good as new. But glues good if needed.

At 3mins 45 you have the silver pin missing leaving small hole at top but don't show how you got it out
How in the hell did you put the spring back on the same way you took it off? To do it the same way would require you to rotate the arm INWARDS, into the rear glass….
Attach the spring first, then attach the arm. It does require a bit of strength.

Yep, might take a few goes, it does work.
