My wife is a sahm and the most useful testimony is incessant constant frank talk of labor, time, money, resources, management while keeping levity.

Society has set families up to block a mother from staying home. It's better for the home and family but it's almost impossible.

I agree that I don’t understand why its such a controversy either. People just looking for their tribe? Idk. I think people can and should do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody. If it hurts your kids to go to work because you lack support and can’t both work and raise them, or if it’ll hurt the child because you go into poverty trying to care for your child with no job. As long as no one is getting hurt, people should do whatever they want. And leave it PERSONAL not be trying to shove it onto every other person. Give everyone options that are right for them.

I stayed home with my children though my mother was a career women. This was by agreement in my marriage and was extremely fulfilling. I had no idea the great risk I entered into until my husband walked out as the world had changed beneath my feet through the years. This choice is phenomenally risky and can be realistically unattainable today. I wouldn't change a thing except for the unfortunate way it ended for my family and financially for me. Just be aware young ladies which ever choice you make, if you have one. Thank you, Annie Margarita for this post.

That commenter was not wrong that most women want to be homemakers, it's biology. Just like most men want to be socially successful. You were also right that everyone has their own circumstances and should choose a life that suits them.

My husband went for a job interview. He's highly qualified. He had a great first interview and was told he would start within the week, but after a secondary interview, as is company policy, he has been ghosted! It's unbelievable.

Thank you Annie! This is such a relevant topic to talk about! My mom was a full-time, nights police officer, raised four kids and still managed to clean, cook, and spend time with her kids and family! It can be done! It's one's individual choice and right to decide what they want for their life.

At what cost? Your mom must have had support. Also childcare today costs way more than in your mom's era?

@@funmilayoaina2658 Most definitely. There were definitely costs. My mom lacked sleep many days/ nights. But she was not without any help. Me being the oldest of my siblings I would help her when needed. My dad would of course also help when he would get home from work, but my mom wanted to keep her career. Ultimately its a choice. It's possible for women to raise their children and work full time of they want to. Just as with almost anything in life, there are pros and cons.

young sahm are actually the closest to the Biblical example/template
and the path to the greatest joy is doing things G-D's way
speaking from experience and many years
    It's G-D's Job

    HE's Good at it.
    You CAN
    TRUST HIM.
    I promise.

Sahm and career women have different challenges it is unfair to say there shouldnt be a debate. Its like arguing with a farmer and wondering how they can be spending so much time just to obtain food when you just go to the store and buy it. Stay at home spouses save childcare costs and perform a lot of domestic labour which career women often need to outsource due to time constraints. As for the hyperpowered women who do it all like your mother, it is by no means easy and it is also not normal, she has made insane sacrifices. Staying at home just allows some breathing room to focus on family and often times these women just do a lot more of the things which would otherwise have to be paid for, thereby saving money even if they dont make it. So they are still huge assets financially.
(Am neither a sahm or working mom, am not a mom at all, just a regular working gal trying to explain)

The brutal truths are decisions about kids are often but never said to be based on whether the guy can conceivably be useful with the immense labor load of parenting.
