Gotta love soft starts. A little surging initially, then it started to smooth out in the end, good. Nice splits on the input/output of your chill waters. You got a nice system going on there. Just the surging might be something to keep an eye on.
I've always been into heavy engineering (Mainly railways and other H/V electric motors) but this is the first time I've come across this type of chiller. Looks interesting, I'll have to read up a bit more about it! 😁👍 Admittedly, it doesn't look like a design I can easily modify to manual drive to help keep my (British 💸) electricity bill down... 😋
I finally had my first exposure to a chiller the other night on an emergency after hours service call. It was a Trane Centravac centrifugal chiller, about maybe half the size of this one. Don’t remember the tonnage but it took something like 560 lbs of R22. I had no idea just how ridiculously loud these machines were until it roared back to life. My head still feels weird from it. 😆
A Trane Centravac is a low pressure chiller so It most likely would not use R22 it was probably R123. But they are nice machines and its definitely a sound you will remember.
@@thecarboneacademy2615 the data tag itself on the unit stated it uses R22. This was a “Series R” manufactured in 1996, and was on a hospital building, if that helps.
You're positive it was a centravac? R22 is a high pressure refrigerant and would not typically be used in a low pressure chiller. Would usually be R123 or R1233zd. I would love to see that data plate if possible. This is very interesting.
R22 is high pressure, Trane only uses 11,123,1233zd and the last one is like two to three years old. R22 wasn’t really popular in centrifugals. York and Carrier over the years have used 11,12.134a,22 ( screw machines) York used 123 carrier didn’t. I worked for York and carrier for a total of 23 years
The old carrier centrifugals I used to watch my dad crank when I was a kid back in 88 were spooky they would hum and when yould least expect it a light would come on and she'd spool up and off to the races.. the initial hum is the oil pump presuming then the indescribable whaaaaaa followed by the thrill of surviving of this purring monstrosity..rake a look. m.ua-cam.com/video/TCZMxz9px2k/v-deo.html
Working on one similar to this next week. How bad is changing the oil with a hand pump? It holds 20 gallons . 134a machine the sump is located below my condenser fortunately so it’s easy access.

do you have a video on adding freon to one of these chillers. I have 3 in the hospital I work in and I have been tasked to troubleshoot. Ant info would be greatly appreciated.
For putting gas in from flat, add vapor until it’s about 35#, then push pull it in. If your topping it off, then just run a hose from the tank to the evaporator barrel, and let er fly Make sure you do the opposite when recovering to make sure you don’t freeze the tubes!!!!
800 tons is not really that big i ran 1500 ton steam turbines 3 at a time ....the old timers would call us young guys push button engineers with these NEW york chillers just saying ive been operating chillers over 35 years !! great HVAC trade ,,,but no side work !!
I worked around these types of machines for over 40 years. Retired now I miss those machines. The sound is music to my ears. I did use ear protection.
They are pretty damn cool, we have one of the coolest jobs

Great education and training video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing
Thank you, I would not have known otherwise
These things are literally chilling
really helpful 3 years later thanks👍
Glad it helped!
damn sounds like the inside of a spaceship or something, pretty neat
the foley effects for "spaceship" often use startup sounds from large industrial machines.

Satisfactory pumps sounds
I do like the video that you share, I hope to see more of your blog.
Thank you we will have more videos shortly.
Your Chiller Room is amazing...!!!
Thank you
👌 thank you for sharing.
Wow, just wow😀👍
Excellent
Thank you for the video
You are welcome.
Great video Stephen!!
Thanks!
This is my job I luv it
Hey thanks that was cool lol
Dude, by the look from the video. You and your crew take pride in a clean and well labeled plant.

Man I miss my ole York chillers. My new site has 6 Trane centrifugal and 40 Trane air cooled chillers.
You gotta love TRANE!! 💪🏼 💯
Holy shit that’s some serious cooling. You don’t have to share specifics, but what type of site was it? Data center or what?
2:26 The chiller was free cooling before startup!

Yes most of the oil sumps are underneath the condenser. Changing oil should not be too difficult.
What kind of facility was this in? looks like a big place.. were the other 5 chillers 800 tons as well?
its a 32 story building with various tenants and a hotel. 2 x1000 ton absorbers 2 x 800 ton centrifugal and a 600 ton centrifugal.
Finally something to properly cool my computer
lol

Interesante, el sonido del centrífugo es parecido al tornillo
¿Que refrigerante usa?

Is their any chillers coming out of your building?
No time soon
How much energy/electricity/power needs this to start up ?
Starting up the amps depending on the size can go from 800-1000 amps

Hey. Why do you have national grid
I notice that the evaporator is usaully located below the compressor
Yes
How much R134A would this thing take to operate?
Hundreds of pounds

Hi can u explain me ...causes of trip the chiller then high temperature.... cooling tower have water ...what solution of the problem
What type of chiller is it and what did the chiller trip on? Any codes on the display panel?
Magnetic drive every day of the week

Unfortunately we currently don’t have any refrigerant recovery videos available. We will try to create one.

Is this water cooled or air cooled chiller
Water cooled
What does York mean by 800 tons of Centrifugal Chiller, is this 800 tons of refrigerant refills?
1 ton of refrigeration = 12,000 BTUs
Hugged a tree lately?
800 tons is 2183kW (2.18MW) of cooling
I feel like if i press something wrong whole tank will explode

sir i want to learn more about centrifugal chillers please advise me where i work in abu dhabi.
We are located in America so I’m not really sure about training outside of the country. If I find out more I will reply to this comment.
Am design electric control for chiller when. Electronic device fault
How to find chiller tons please tell me
Check with manufacture with serial number.
Please help me
Left out the towers
There was another chiller running so the towers were already online.
