- The Pokemon Adventures Manga has and incredible cast of characters filled with depth and great arcs. The Ruby and Sapphire Chapter has that great cast with each character including the side characters all having unique and exciting personalities! If you think that Pokemon doesn't have good stories or characters, you haven't read the Pokemon Adventures Manga!

I like to think that Archie and maxie are a reflection of ruby and sapphire two individuals with opposing worldview trying to prove their side right. In fact this arc was full of this idea of conflicting world views. Strength vs beauty, land vs sea, a parents authority vs a child’s freedom, Wallace’s responsibly as champion vs his desire to stay a gym leader, etc.
This manga had stuck in my head for years, especially Ruby Sapphire Arc, i love these pairings because their 'swap personalities', it sucks we dont have anime adaptation yet
I have ALWAYS said that Pokemon Adventures is what the anime should've been. It would sell so well!
@@anyo_mations I mean back in the 90s and early 2000s it would've been impossible for them to distribute it in the west, kids programming at the time was almost exclusively lighthearted episodic comedies (Heck the og anime was daring for even having minor plot progression). Though I agree they have no excuse not to have done it in current year.
Can we talk about how infinitely better Adventures Team Magma and Team Aqua are compared to their game counterparts? Like, I got literal chills when I first saw Maxie, and my mind was blown when I first saw Archie

I really appreciate the video! It helped a lot with better understanding and remembering the characters. However I am a bit disappointed that you didn’t touch too much on ruby and sapphire’s romance. It wasn’t focused much past this arc unfortunately but I feel like it really built up their characters in this arc.
I went back and forth while writing the script on weather I should include it. I also really enjoyed it and thought it was very well done. I decided against it though because I like to write these with some things un-spoiled so that people who go read the story will still find new things. That said I very subtly hinted at it with the panels I showed with them together as a sort of compromise. Thank you for your feedback as well! I really appreciate it!

Ruby and Sapphire arc is so deep and the plot is, well, simple but the writers did a great job with the characters, even more with the Emerald arc!

What’even better (and maybe a bit meta) is that for all their differences, ruby and sapphire are the same gemstone just colored differently.

The difference with this arc having the enemies so much like the in game counterparts is because in the previous 2 gens they had barely anything to work on realistically. So they haf to get extra creative with their "big bad" where with the 3 games we got our enemies were pretty well fleshed out already.
I like to imagine Archie and Maxie lived through the horrors of natural disasters like droughts and floods
Archie having been through a drought that traumatized him
And Maxie having been through a flood that did the same
Perhaps both lost someone dear to them, Archie loosing someone due to lack of water and Maxie losing someone because of too much water
I like a lot of stuff in ruby/sapphire arc but I still think Gold is the best character in the manga. Ruby is pretty close second though
IDT those boxsets were available in the UK. If they were, I didn't see them in stores. Thankfully we did get the collector's edition a few years ago.

Ruby having a Celebi ruined the arc for me. The whole training arc, the battles with Team Aqua and Team Magma, and his own father dying meant nothing, because Ruby could have made sure none of that happened in the first place.

The backstory does feel a bit silly to me, At least in Ruby case compared to Sapphire were her want to be strong to help her friends make more sense here than she was crying because of my injury so I should make my Pokémon put on cute clothes,Putting his interests become a thing because of Childhood Trauma sounds silly to me.

You forget the romance
great arc. The ending is a bit off though. A Celebi just comes on scene out of nowhere and literally solves everything :/
Yea It's either that they foreshadowed celebi more or that they cut cut celebi out the plot
@@theironpig7901 it was foreshadowed when ruby used it to take down some wild Pokémon to the surprise of his Mudkip, the fact that Ruby’s family was originally from the jhoto region, and throughout this entire arc ruby only uses five Pokémon without question which is easily overlook by people not paying attention to the writing on the wall since technically ruby only needed five Pokémon since there is only five Pokémon contest categories.
You don’t only use five Pokémon unless you are keeping the sixth one a secret.

Personally, I found that the story was really great. All the way *until* Ruby’s change. Sure, there was a bit of things I didn’t like, but those nitpicks are so minor (especially since it’s a kid story) that it really doesn’t matter. Until the entire thing becomes the Ruby show. Hear me out.
Sapphire got sidelined in her own plot. She’s not as strong as Ruby. She gets the orb taken away. She trains for literally nothing. Sure, they fight a bit and whatnot, and she delivered Steven’s letter, but that’s it. Ruby and Norman solve every problem there. Sapphire doesn’t even have a full *team.*
Instead of Ruby & Sapphire vs Groudon & Kyogre, it’s Ruby & Norman which is a waste of a training arc. Courtney should’ve been utilized better, and I honestly think she should have perished there.
I liked the duality thing, but Sapphire needed a buff, because she’s not as strong as Ruby, AND she did nothing to develop the plot after she said “I have a crush on ya.” And lastly,
Ruby has a *Celebi,* the worst ending I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t he use Celebi in the first place? They could’ve finished this showdown, NOT kill Steven, Norman, and Courtney (since they altered the ending anyways) and got the bad guys. There was no point in Celebi being there.
The only saving grace is Fee-Fee. The feebas. This made Feebas in my Top 10. Love you Fee-Fee.
But I still enjoyed the plot before Fee-Fee ran away (Ruby’s turning point.) I just wish him and Sapphire were handled better. (He became a Mary Sue afterwards, and Sapphire & The Regi Plot were pretty redundant. Rayquaza was fine on it’s own, but I liked the blind kid so it can stay.)

I honestly like Red generation better. No shade to Ruby and Saphire but as the new regions were shown in manga the new protagonist always shy away from being a trainer who wants to be a trainer and master like Red / Blue. Some of the MCs focus more on stuff like collecting and beauty pageants. Which is just shying away from the original theme Red and Blue had.
