I wasn't expecting the scenes to actually be that good! From what I remember of One Piece, it had cool characters but it wasn't really ALL THAT. But maybe I just need to watch more of it...
nice reaction. first off, I think a shorter intro would be better and could also have explained what you know about one piece before the reaction sooner but nice that yall included it. The reason why one piece is so long is because of the lore and worldbuilding. the lore is really deep and it may not seem like it on the surface but it is when you get more into it. one piece has discrimination and racism, corrupt governments, human experimentation, slavery, childhood trauma, genocide, the abuse of power, drug trafficking, coloniolism, manipulation of history/propaganda, etc. it has a anime/cartoony veil but they say it in your face. I had to spoil myself to get into one piece so I knew what I was getting myself into. I really enjoyed what i saw and started watching it. the manga is long rightfully so, I explained why the story is long. but the anime itself is long because of the pacing later on. most animes adapt 2-3 chapters for an episode but one piece started adapting either a chapter or less per episode in the 300s but there are hype moments for sure regardless. if it wasnt for the pacing the anime could have been at 600 eps and not 1100, but truthfully it is still a great anime and the story is deep, as well as seeing the journey of luffy. lots of foreshadowing too, things from episode 30 will be mentioned again hundreds of eps later, bringing things full circle. everything matters and is connected. the pacing may be bad at some parts but the story is whats always carried this series. animation and fights are okay early on but they get better in the 200s. the animation you guys seen are all from episode 890 onwards btw, so if youre hyped for animation it may not be for you. you gotta like the story to really commit, everything else gets better over time. the animation has been s tier for several years now, current episodes are peak, and the story is in the final saga right now and might end in the next 5 years aside from the anime pacing, some arcs may feel slow or you might ask “why is this island or small arc even important”, but like i said before every matters and is connected. everything comes full circle. this is just oda (the author) building the foundation of his story/world and lead to a climax. one piece is divided into sagas that have arcs in them. a saga is like 3-4 arcs, with the entire story line connected within the saga and for future arcs. I am just giving you this breakdown as One piece is very peak right now, but youll have to get through some slow/muddy parts to get to the good ones. but its definitely worth it, you get to the payoffs/rewards eventually. there are many goofy characters but oda offsetts it by introducing some badass serious characters too
