- First look at the Tikka T3X CTR rifle in 308.
On a mission to build my ideal long range setup, I dropped the Tikka CTR in a KRG Whiskey chassis and I'm loving this thing!
In this vid, I go over my initial impressions of the setup, the accuracy we saw, and the cost of the build.
Shes a Sub-Moa beast.
The word you're looking for is not "budget" it's pure "Value" this is fantastic value for the accuracy and shooting capability you'll need. Most people will not out shoot this weapon.
Correct.
I have a Tikka CTR Stainless 24" in 6.5 Creedmoor, and it averages under 0.5 MOA with every bullet I've tried in it. Literally the only modifications I've made are installed an EC Tuner Brake and a Mountain Tactical spring to lower the trigger pull weight to 1.5 lbs (probably not necessary). I have an Atlas bipod on mine. They are truly superb rifles.
They are shooters
Wow. What a deal for that tikka second hand. I got my 6.5cm Ctr standard configuration with adjustable cheek riser for $2800. We get fleeced in aus for rifles..
I enjoy your content because you show everyone what can be done with a moderate cost barreled action and a decent chassis with a decent scope. We all don't have $5-8k or more to spend on a custom rifle and Niteforce scope like some of the guys on certain channels so I appreciate your content. I myself have a Howa 1500 .308 in an MDT XRS chassis and love the combo. Do I wish I had a Manners TCS chassis/stock and a GA Precision barreled action? Heck yeah but most of us have to stick within a budget. So thank you again in showing what the average Joe can afford and how well it shoots. Also glad you use a .308 Win to show what it can do at distance.
Yeah man. I don’t have that kind of cash to drop either. Most don’t. And howas can get it done. Great rifles. I think 308 still has a place, especially for training and especially in our economy now.
Stumbled upon your page while looking around for inspiration for my next review.Nice rifle! Appreciate the shoutout bud. Looking forward to seeing your journey with this! Sub'd!
Oh shit, just saw this. Thanks man! I learned a lot from listening to you and Caylen. Watching you crush it with the Tikka finally sold me on one instead of a custom action. Just way too smooth.
On my second Tikka T3x. First one purchased a few years ago in 7mm-08. Ammo shortage caused me to trade it in for a 308 of the same rifle. Love Tikka.
Gorgeous rifle. Thanks for sharing your setup and experience.
Tikka is the new custom :) Love from Finland
Hahah. I like it. A big thank you to Finland for this rifle.
@@ADudeAndSomeGuns but after a KRG chassis, it is a rifle that is fun to shoot, not with the original bucket plastic stocks🤣🤣
Congrats on the new setup, appreciate the breakdown.
Sweet build man! I have almost the same setup. I used a Bravo chassis and Arken rings. My bipod is also mounted to the swivel. Same scope, brake and rifle though. Shoots pretty good!!
Sounds solid man! Love the Bravo.
Got the same mounts, have the same Gun it’s a Fabulous Gun! Once sighted in…WOW! I need to add muzzle break…. I’m female and older and could shoot this all day long. Once sighted in 3 shots with 2 shots with 1” and bullseye 3rd! ACCURATE Gun, I’m new to shooting, just an FYI. You don’t have to be a “Pro” to shoot this Gun in in 6.5, can’t say enough good things about it. Thanks for the video! Going to push her out to greater distance next time. Ultimately a Great Gun for the money.
My first bolt action rifle was and is tikka t3x i put 3.715 aics bottom metal rifle is 300 winmag. I cut the barrel down to 20 inches. In adding bartline barrel 1-9 twist 20 inches barrel
My 308 is a Howa. Mine is in a GRS Bifrost. McGowen and Carbon six will do shouldered prefits for Howa builds. Outside of those I don't know any other barrel maker that does.
I am about to order a barrel for my Howa 223. If I didn't already have these Howa recievers, I would not hesitate to run a Tikka.
Just bought mine today.
Great info. Where can we find CTR barreled actions? Secondly where do you suggest we look for used rifles?
You should try the KRG Midas, it is awesome trigger, will kick that Timney in to a dust!
This is an awesome review, definitely doing this plus a KRG Bravo since I don't need the folding stock and especially since I like its McMillan A5-ish look but with modern features
Glad it was helpful!
My ctr is easy 1/2 out the box, shot several 1/3 groups with FGMM… haven’t changed out stocks or trigger yet
Ive had a Howa Bravo 308 20" which I sold 3 years ago. I think this will be my next setup.
Can’t go wrong with a Tikka
Thank you.
Arken has a promo code for 30% off all in-stock products right now. Just bought a SH-4 24x and rings for $370 total.
Heck yeah man, my buddy just got one too, killer deal on those scopes at that price.
@@ADudeAndSomeGuns it’s the best deal in the industry, imo.
It's hard to believe someone sold this rifle to you for $1,100. They will definitely regret it.
It was a deal for sure
My Tikka’s bolt action is…..”Like Butttaaaa”. Good trigger too, Love mine🙌✊💯
I also run a Area 419 hellfire match on my 308. I have tried a few brakes and none come close to the hellfire match.
Love this and I’m super tempted by an arken rather than throwing £2800 at some of the bigger boys.
One question- what height are your mounts?
Have you looked through an Athlon Ares? Its about 800 bucks and its around the same clarity as a Viper PST.
Budget gets used too much these days. But 1/2 moa or better is excellent in a factory rifle
Know how I know your in the upper midwest
You went to scheels and called it shields :p
Best route is spend around 1500 for the rifle and 1500 for the scope... you won't be disappointed in a "budget" set up... you can transfer either side being scope or rifle into a more custom set up to start off with and not hold yourself back
I also wanted to ask if the bergara or the tikka was more accurate? Which do you suggest for a build?
How do you like not having the bolt lock when it’s in safe?
Thr ctr have a black ice teflon coated bolt right??? Ir am i mistaken
Why not save the build money and purchase the t3x tac a1? Love mine....
You could. I wanted the KRG chassis, if you don’t want to customize, the tac a1 is great too.
What’s the stock?
Just out of curiosity, why did you go with 308 over 6.5 ? I'm asking because I'm trying to decide for my CTR purchase knowing that 80% of the time it'll be used on paper and 20% for hunting
Because I was planning on rebarreling it in 6.5 so then I would have 2 barrels for 2 of the most popular rounds out there. I would use 308 to train with. 6.5CM or 6CM to compete with.
@@ADudeAndSomeGuns Thanks! That's a great idea
Nice Rifle you should save money for a better scope
Can u buy tikka factory barrel/receiver-bolt and trigger only ? Or do you have to buy the entire rifle and drop it in a chassis
If you can find one, yeah. Check some forums, if you're patient you can come accross one.
What is the weight of this setup?
Was the original Ctr able to use aics mags, or did you have to do a conversion?
No. With the ctr you can’t use aics without a bottom metal conversion. Once you put it in the KRG it takes AICS. No other things needed.
If a smooth action is your basis on buying a rifle, I kinda feel sorry for you. Tikkas are ok for what they are, a factory rifle at the end of the day. They still don't compare to a custom in any way, shape, or form...
You know what else has a smooth action, the 60 year old Rem 700 and after market support is endless, and many custom actions still copy them to this day, I wonder why that is. You Tikka guys are something else sometimes I swear 😂😅
And you don't need prefits or nuts for a Howa. Just buy a blank like everyone else, and take it your smith and have him chamber and install it.
My Vanguard (basically a Howa 1500) has a 28" BRUX with a McMillan A5 and it shoots 1/4-3/8 MOA easy at 100 yards, and 4-5" all day at 1K laying prone with a bipod with 108g ELDMs.
Lol. You’re bragging that your 30lb bench gun in 6mm will shoot 3/8” groups? My $500 Ruger American does that factory ammo.
Which aics mag brand do you use in this setup?
The krg aics mag
Muzzlebreak what IS
Area 419
What’s the height on the F3R??
1.35" 34mm with 20MOA cant
What’s the total weight of your rifle?
Close to 15lbs as it is setup in the video. Gonna be heavier when I throw on the 24” creedmoor barrel.
