Seve inspired me to play golf as a junior getting down to a 3 handicap some 30 years ago. Still love golf today for its fitness and shear enjoyment. God bless seve. Legend. X
Nice tribute BJ. I know he was your favorite. I loved his creativeness around the greens. As you know I believe a great shortgame can give a player momentum to turn a good round into a great round. This was his legacy. You could never count him out. I feared him in the Ryder Cup because he knew how to motivate his team and he wanted to crush the U.S. Teams. Hamp
good analysis bj, but I think the real reason seve fought erratic shots was his club angle going back and through was a little steep, causing a crossed club at the top, and at times the right leg will shoot out from under you in the downswing to help whip that club back on to the correct plane, and when seve approached impact, along with rolling his wrist over to square up, since the shaft was coming in at a steep angle the wrist has to bow downward to shallow it out, which is hard to do later
The film on the right is from the 13th fairway in the 1986 masters where he made an eagle. Sadly he went on to put his ball in the pond in front of the 15th green and lost out to Jack Nicklaus. The film on the left is from the 16th tee in the 1989 Masters where he put his tee shot into the water on the left of the green. Faldo went on to win that year.
I think Nightwing690 nailed it. Seve was such an incredible athlete that in his younger days he could control the clubface with his hands. Over time it becomes very hard to do that consistently, and I don’t believe he won a competitive event after 1995. His swing has a lot in common with Phil Mickelson (club across the line, head pulls away from where it was at address, quite steep on the downswing, all of which leads to a roll release that is capable of sending the ball anywhere). It’s a really good example of doing a lot of things incorrectly, but making up for it with athleticism, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing move that obscures the flaws in real time. Seve’s short game declined more precipitously than Mickelson’s, which IMO is why Phil was able to remain competitive, winning a major in his forties and at 50, but these were two men that seemed poised to win double-digit majors, and ended up with five and six. Hall of Famers both, but object lessons in what happens when a swing relies too heavily on timing rather than rock-solid fundamentals.
@7:10 you mention that the face is a little closed (which was seve style) and therefore went into the bunker left,true.....but look at his alignment(feet) thats where it went
One of the most beautiful swings ever,
True and one of the greatest golfer

Thanks for this fine analysis of the great man.

What sports analysis software you using there?
So arriving above the original shaft plane at impact is not necessarily a bad thing?
The one on the right was the '86 Masters, Jack's 6th and final win

@mhampton84 Thanks Hamp, he was a shot making genius for sure.
that's what an analysis is supposed to do, provide information.
🎉🎉
all good ball strikers lower their heads in the swing
Wonderful video, thank you.
Come over to my channel and watch more clips of the great man.
woods, will never sit down and eat atSEVE,S table. never.
@TheIrishjohn123 out of respect im guessing
Está muy encorvado..
