Ethiopians confuse the hell out of me. They are top tier archer flank civ, but a complete afterthought as a civ on maps like Arabia. If they are such a good archer civ, why are they used as much on Arabia? Even when crossbows were the meta on Arabia, we still didn’t see them that much. Thoughts???
Ethiopians aren't Mayans: -they don't have a solid economy throughout the entire game (instead relying on sudden powerspikes in Feudal and Castle in 1v1s and relying on teammates late game) -they don't have an Archer discount letting them amass a ton of 'em or regain power after being blasted by a Mangonel (Ethiopians rely on their faster attacking Archers) -they don't have Eagles (instead having weird Knights and Shotels) nor do they have a Skirmisher bonus -they don't have an additional faster moving Archer (CA ig but Plumes are way better, Shotels can only raid and kill Siege, Plumes can fight directly) -Obsidian Arrows- -Camels aren't that good on Ethiopians anyway -Torsion Engines are a wunderwaffel that will bankrupt you -Outposts are great, 50% more walls is even better Ethiopian eco bonus is still weaker than the Lithuanian one

Top 100 views haha. Thanks for consistently making these videos. Ive been a fan since you had like 400 subscribers and I watched pretty much everything you put out since. Keep on the good work :)
Early in (flank civs for team games) and my brain just went "hmmm... Etheopians and Britons for fast producing fast firing archers.... Sounds hella aggressive and fun"
Bulgarians are underrated then. Phew, almost thought they were bad or smth
Only big brain players know how great they are. Shhh, don't check my elo.
Ok but how about the best civs for going up against Fatslob's Vikings on Black Forest?
What if the horse was nerfed from "first TC" to "first dock"
I noticed the lack of an ad, i particularly needed to make a website, but now I have no idea which program to use, well hope you can help me find one some day.....
Hey great video! Helped me a lot can you tell me what is the music on the end of the video?
VIKING GANG❤
💛 All the best. -AOE_RUSH_ToOnY
woohoo another SOTL video! been harder to get games lately so these help quench my aoe2 thirst. thanks
I think poles are still top arena civ
Oooohh that's a good one
Can you post the music track at the end?
I didn't see Hindustani coming at number 1. It's my second civ, because it has an answer to everything, but still, not famed for the cav archers that seem to be the trend.
This further proves that low elo players hate housing.
They just wanna play without ever hear the sound of pop cap.
Huns are my favourite since Aoe2x2
Can you do a through the ages on just cavalry archers? I recall them not being very good originally and I know they received a lot of changes
Hmm what are the best civs on closed maps, like black forest and amazon tunnel?
Celts
great video! thanks. What are the best civ for different gameplay? for example I like short games and play more feudal early castle all in.
Mongols are great for it.
Hi Spirit of the Law, guys here.
Throughout years, American civilizations have lost their high status.
So natural follow-up... are any civs clearly underperforming versus others on particular maps or elo ranges?
... okay fine, we can do AoE2 for another year 😀
huns dodging the worldwide housing crisis
Please do an update of best archer & CA civs ❤.
Hey, could you do a video on best civ for casual matches with friends? Aka where uou and your friends build up to imperial and max out armies to chuck at each other? I keep getting stomped by my friend who plays an elephant civ, since pikemen being efficient against them doesnt exactly help when its 140vs140
A few ways of countering elephants is monks (not really at that high numbers) onagers, scorpions, or camels. If you mix one of these units with full upgrades in with you pikes you should win.
Kamayuks shred elephants in those fights, it's not even close
I will keep playing Byzantines!
You obviously forgot toentiom, that teutons are the best in basically every category by far. They still should get buffed though
Great video ❤
never clicked a video so fast
Hey spirit, could we see a similar video for empire wars?
Ethiopians confuse the hell out of me. They are top tier archer flank civ, but a complete afterthought as a civ on maps like Arabia. If they are such a good archer civ, why are they used as much on Arabia?
My theory (and it’s just that, a theory in passing) is that they need the Briton (or even Mayan) team bonus to give them that extra boost.
This has perplexed me for a while. Even when crossbows were the meta on Arabia, we still didn’t see them that much.
Thoughts???
Ethiopians aren't Mayans:
-they don't have a solid economy throughout the entire game (instead relying on sudden powerspikes in Feudal and Castle in 1v1s and relying on teammates late game)
-they don't have an Archer discount letting them amass a ton of 'em or regain power after being blasted by a Mangonel (Ethiopians rely on their faster attacking Archers)
-they don't have Eagles (instead having weird Knights and Shotels) nor do they have a Skirmisher bonus
-they don't have an additional faster moving Archer (CA ig but Plumes are way better, Shotels can only raid and kill Siege, Plumes can fight directly)
-Obsidian Arrows-
-Camels aren't that good on Ethiopians anyway
-Torsion Engines are a wunderwaffel that will bankrupt you
-Outposts are great, 50% more walls is even better
Ethiopian eco bonus is still weaker than the Lithuanian one
SOTL : Man, I wish we had new DLC for new civ breakdowns!!!
I really thought georgians will dominate the arabia list. Guess the domination is over.
Music change at Hindustanis 🤘 🎧 🤘
It would be appreciated for noobs like me if you made a video on AoE 2 terminology
Yeah, I always assumed "Fast Castle" was just that - a rush to build a Castle.
Turns out it is "Fast Castle (Age)"
Spirit of the Door here!
What civ is #1 on arena but #43 on arabia?
Turks
More history videos!
No love for the black forest/ amazon tunnel noob crowd?
My favourite civ are the Turockans.
I tend to play with a forced treaty for an hour.
Baby wake up. New SotL video just dropped.
Guess I should become a team games flank player
Gotta thank you for getting me to play the Japanese way back in 2015, still my fav civ to this day
If you ever change the music for the number 1 spot I will be very upset
But what are the best farmer civs?
Slavs, Khmer, Teutons, Franks...
I'll tell you what's actually going on with mongol picking on low to mid elo, my friend: LAMERS!
I'm surprised Goth and Teuton are not there. I remember a time when teutons was just "you loose" ahaha, very long time ago.
Guess they're 7/10 picks
Teutons were Like a top civ ?
I mean they are decent , but top ?
When was that time ?
@@geheimeWeltregierung TC bullshit play
@@angquangnguyenthac2833 ahh i See , ive heard of that
I don't think I ever made a nitpick about your video, but I can't help but say it: I don't really like how you made Mongols as the #3 Arabia Civ there. It's not that I disagree with your points, it's just that ignoring the WR and putting it at #3 is very arbitrary when everything else is purely sorted by WR numbers. Just put it as a special mention just like every other special mentions in other category.
@@zeroyuki92 the problem is that mongols are, quite frankly, without peers. Very very versatile with ways to counter just about everything your opponent can do. And if they can't, they can just attack elsewhere and force a repositioning.
@perrymeril I'm not debating any points about Mongols quality. I am just saying that for a video where the rank for every other entries is decided by numbers alone suddenly introducing qualitative justification is just weird, just make a honorable mention or special award for it.
I disagree that he sorted them by winrate alone. Otherwise he wouldnt spend so much time explaining why a civ is good. He'd just go "idk, aoe2 zone says it's top 3 so i put it here you guys decide why".
Unlike other civs in the list, mongols are an exception and he made sure to point that out
I hate being a hipster, but my distaste for popular things is real. So I go Bulgarians. They might be a broken civ, but I like them. Especially for early aggression. I hate late game trash wars and Arena is on my ban list.
Whatever happened to the goths?!?!?! >(
Watch the video Goths through the ages if you want to know everything that ever happened to them.
@NowhereMan7 ... seriously? Do you REALLY think that is productive? Do you think I might not be someone who has or had played alot of the goths, current or in the past? Could I possibly have been meming? I swear to god that I couldn't have made it more obvious that the comment was made in jest. Maybe you're the type who needs to be an asshole on a forum that when someone who is clearly new asks.a question, you reply with skill issue or don't bother us with this shit and search google.
I wonder how much Spanish are popular on nomad because people still think they build the first TC faster.
Obviously the meta is sub 800 elo Chinese mains, our win rates might be low but any year now we'll get that opening down.
Chinese civ overview or maybe teutons plz.
I thought you would start the video, start the intro and then say: it's Georgians, in all maps, in all conditions and ELOs. Bam, end of the video! I am very surprised not to see them, they feel like the one broken civ to me
They were nerfed multiple times. At release they were really broken
R.I.P. Byzantium
Make Britons great again! Justice for archer meta!
Well, what can you say ... Huns are Huns.
I think this is the only video where he never mentions the Japanese.
You didn't listen carefully enough
Civ definitely matters at mid elo. Pedants be trippin
