Great review! We have a 2017 28' FCTwin we bought new, for $78K at the time from Airstream Adventures in Sacramento. It has about 65K miles on it now, and everything still works well. What is missing on the new Classic 28, as you point out, is counter space. Also, storage in the bathroom a bit less; window is nice touch, however. Love the slide out storage/spice type cabinets, but miss the "overhead storage" bins above the dinette and also under the couch storage; reasons we purchased a 28 FC vs the 28 International was storage bins in place of those "useless" oblong windows above the windows on the dinette. (when awning out, can't see out those oblong windows anyway) The storage bins in the 28' FC over the FC 27' were a driver for our decision along with the L-couch with lower storage. We put our heavy canned goods in the bins under the couch. Shower looks to be the same. Wife wishes that bench had a cut out for more leg space. Other comment is the cushions shown in the closet for the dinette bed? Whats with that; our dinette back cushions are used when you lower the table and make into a bed, not needing any extra storage for cushions. Waste of space. Maybe a little more engineering needed from the designers looking at these comments would fix the obvious? I think for the price, I would lean toward the 30 Classic. Missed an opportunity when Covid started to pick up a new 30' Classic Twin for $114K, but wife talked me out of it...that couch in the Classic is to die for vs the L couch!
The cushions in the storage for the dinette bed. The Globetrotter and Classic has extra cushions that you have a store somewhere. I agree that the couch in the Classic is amazing.
As a 2023 25' Globetrotter owner, this looks like something I'd consider if we upgraded. We like to camp in smaller state park and national forest campgrounds and 28' is a good size. A 27' GT is more space but no more amenities. I love the seating on the campground side which makes this model for me. I guess the couch is a feature of the larger Airstreams, but never appealed to me much, I'd rather have the dinette in the back where there's usually a view and not facing away on a couch, but just me. Twin beds are the nazz, so much better than climbing around a queen and great for lounging. As they say "love will find a way".
This one is a beauty! Love the couch and dinette. The pantry is also a huge bonus. The split bathroom is also nice. The bathroom sink is actually usable and you can brush teeth, wash face, etc. without hitting head on upper cabinet or medicine cabinet.
OMG!!! They did it. I sent in a suggestion to Airstream for them to make our floor plan (28RB) with the Classic interior. Holy cow, they listened to me!!!! YAY. I just wish they’d get rid of the Roman shades. Looks like we will be upgrading Chad. Ready when you are. 😂😂
It looks beautiful, but I greatly prefer a FB vs RB. Similar argument for having the windows on the curb side; seeing nice things out the back windows while eating rather than staring at the back of your TV and the road that goes past the camp site.
I think it looks like a nice design. I appreciate the honesty when critiquing the kitchen counter. I do prefer the older window covers over the Roman shades. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
As a new ‘25 PB owner, I got nervous when I saw this video but I still think we made the right choice. The radiant heat seems like a nice option but you do give up a considerable amount of space around the beds, couch, and dinette so unless you do a lot of col weather camping, this wouldn’t make sense for us. Also, the bedroom is smaller, giving up 3-4” at the foot end of the beds. That may not sound like much but that is very valuable real estate, and more so if you are taller than 5’9”. Aesthetics of the PB are hands down much nicer in my opinion and kitchen in PB is much more functional. I like the new pantry, but not at the expense of the kitchen real estate that was given up. Power beds and couch are super sweet and would have gladly paid for that option in the PB. Not sure if I like the idea of the trailer having a mind of its own with trailer sway via braking but would be interested in hearing from those who have it. I went overkill on trailer sway control with ProPride 3p and experience zero sway. It’s totally rock solid.
Thanks for reviewing this new 28 foot classic. Airstream does a great job but I have two concerns about this model. There is a lack of hanging closet space for an RV which is built for extended or full-time use. The second concern is that there is NO kitchen counter space. There is no room for a coffee maker on the counter and as you pointed out, there is no cover for the burners which provides much needed space when not in use. I am more inclined to want less time spent on technology engineering and more on good space planning for the money. I have an older Airstream which does have the booth on the curb side and it makes a huge difference when camping. This is the side that you want to have a booth or kitchen eating area so you can look over your own campsite and have the privacy. Another comment I will make is that I really like a window over the kitchen area that opens and I am seeing more of the newer models which have inoperable windows over the counter, sink and bath areas. Many times, this would be the main window that I may want open. Thanks for a great review.
Very nice! We look forward to the more in-depth video experience. The Classic is the top-of-the-line-flagship-model and it's great to see the Classic package in a 28'. They got our attention. We're tempted.
Alas as a tall Airstreamer this is a no-go as soon as you walked into that bedroom. The end of the twin beds are hard against the foot wall like in the 25ft series, rather than carrying some room to let your feet hang off like in the 27, normal 28 and normal 30 lineups
Pantry is possible because the chassis is 8" longer than flying cloud and international 28rb. Why do RV manufacturers insist on 3 burner cooktops? Who has pots small enough to use 3 burners at a time. Just make it 2 burners and give back some counter space, then with a square instead of rectangle sink, the counter space is more functional. This is looking really sweet.
We love the improvements in storage for the 28 floor plan. Like you guys we have always thought the 28 could use a little more storage, especially a pantry. We would love to see that trickle down to the other model lines. Maybe even a 28RB in the Globetrotter line. Nicer, but not full Classic or Pottery Barn level. Keep up the good work Airstream. We’re loving the new innovation.
As a new owner of a 2025 30RBQ Classic, I like it! Flipped kitchen/windows is a plus. Short counter top is a minus but they had to chop length somewhere. Camping is about cooking outside as much as possible. Looking forward to follow up video.
I love it except the counter top at the sink like you said it’s non existent. But you could use the stove top with a butcher block to put your coffee maker or use the dinette I suppose. It’s a great layout with the windows on the actual view side.
During your walkthrough we saw a pantry on either side of the trailer, and the build out between the beds and the front wall seems wider than the other 28 footers. Also, is the water closet side of the bathroom larger? My question is, where is this extra interior length coming from? Is the lounge area shorter?
The 28 foot Classic is 28’10”, so it’s 8 inches longer than other 28 foot floor plans. And the galley is short… that’s where they sacrificed for the other features.
@@ChadsRVReviews The Specs for the 28' Classic on the AS website show "Exterior Length" as 28'10". I would prefer it to be the 28'2". Chad, can you confirm which is the correct number? Thank you. Cheers, P.S. The Globetrotter 27' "Exterior Length" is listed as 28' 2".
I was so excited when I heard there would be a 28 classic! However, this is really disappointing! As someone has already commented, the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. As you mention, limited counter space but the kitchen storage also leaves a lot to be desired. Where do you store your pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, etc?!! Who needs so much room for all of the can goods and spices! As a 10 year owner of a 27’ Serenity, this would be like going to a 23’ as far as storage! Makes me appreciated what I have even more!
Hello, Airstream. Make the flip up galley counter extension twice as wide and twice as long. It's not intruding on the door so it can help with counter space. (Or even drinks/snacks for the sofa.) Someone will make a butcher block cover for the cooktop.
I immediately thought I would set up a folding table between the couch & countertop to extend the space. Costco has some inexpensive folding tables that might work.
Having to open a door to get to the silverware/cutlery, which is also down low, is poor design. Location of controls is difficult to access as you lean into and over the seat. Large bathroom sink is nice. Couch is very nice. Agree with the stove design taking away counter space but love the flip up counter and if they would add a way to securely place the sink covers over the stove that would be nice.
So no galley drawers? Gotta go under the sink to get knives and forks? Maybe a case of beauty over utility? Looks like AS is trying to compete with fifth wheels. And a heated towel rack?? Take the word “camping” out of your mouth.
I rarely use 2 burners in my house at the same time, and NEVER use 3 burners…why would I suddenly find the need to use 3 burners while camping?!! What a waste of countertop to place 3 burner cooktop in a trailer.
@@MichaelHoulden Wow, Airstream seems to be working hard to make more recent models less and less boondocker friendly! (2024 GT30RBT here... would give almost anything to be able to upgrade the 12v electric fridge to a dual-way propane fridge)
Home run! I have a 26U and this has the same (lack of) counter space. But, an easy solution is to make that flip up extension full width and twice as long. I don’t have space for that, so I cover the stovetop. Speaking of cooktop, was that one odd? Three tiny burners in a row? Just give me two normal burners, I’ve never used all three.
I think the Classic less focused on boondocking. It's more of a full hook up camper. The Trade Wind and the 2025 Globetrotter are design with boondocking in mind.
