Complete disassembly and service of a Zebco 33 Platinum (33PL). Parts can be found here: Sorry. Tackle Services closed the website! :( www.tackleserv...
Thanks for the detailed information in the video. My Zebco 33 Platinum came with one less bearing and a plastic piece on the head side of the handle bolt. I've just ordered a bearing as a replacement as well as an additional bearing and anti-reverse gear since mine had broken after lending it to my children. I never realized how inexpensive the parts are (shipping was more than the parts) and you can also order directly from the Zebco web site.
I really love these videos on servicing different reels. Your the best by far being very thorough in your explanation on the process. Please keep up the good work. Maybe you can shoot a video with one of reels serviced catching fish ?
Thanks for watching! That is a good idea. I often do that, but I don't always make it really clear. See these two videos on the 2021 Zebco 33 Platinum. ua-cam.com/video/DdqezQ8pyKc/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/1UR7dP1fZmU/v-deo.html. I have another set planned for an old Zebco 44 I repaired and serviced and plan on fishing with soon.

@@j.t.cooper2963 I've had my Platinum for (I think) a decade or so. I bought it on a whim in a combo pack when we were in Florida and fished salt and fresh water with it. It finally had some issues with the anti-reverse mechanism, but still works. I've never maintained it, but the darn thing has just been so reliable! I'll probably take much better care of it now that I know how from this video!
The bearings on this are 1/4 x 1/2 x 3/16 inch. This is just referred to as a 33PL, however it is the same line as a 33J. So you could refer to it as a 33JPL. here is a link to parts. www.tackleservice.com/Consumer/Product_detail_m.aspx?ProductID=2606
Thanks for your post. In your experience, if the bearings are upgraded (other than the white metal pinon) would there really that much difference in longevity and reliability between metal and plastic body Zebco reels? I'm curious as many camera bodies are made of plastic and do quite well but not sure if it's the same type .
Yes, I think so. I dont think the metal vs plastic body makes a difference, but I believe the bearings will. The first reel I upgraded was a Zebco 33J, which is about 16 years old. The bushings were wore out. I have a 33PL of the same vintage and it has 4 ball bearings and needed cleaning. After it was serviced it was like new. Smooth. I realized by replacing worn bushings with bearings a reels longevity would be extended. Plus it will operate smoothly.
I bought a new 33 Platinum. It was a disaster!!! First thing I did was break it down to clean/lube it. The reel was nice but I couldnt get that back cover on and my anger got the best of me. End result a reel in 100 pieces and im out $29. If I buy another do you have a trick or something on how to get that back cover on?
Sorry to hear that. I wonder if there was a flaw in manufacturing. The trick is to line up the top of the cover first and then snap on the bottom. See my 2020 33 Rhino video. They are basically the same reels.
@@OutFishing13Matthew I tried that and it wouldnt snap in. Just like other zebcos many times before. I tried for hours nothing I did would work. I have never seen anything like it. I watched another utube vid last night and the guy had trouble with his. These new ones are different.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
I have 4 of those 1st generation Platinums. I got them brand new in the package for $20 each. I really like those too.
nice! What a bargain. Enjoy them.
@@OutFishing13Matthew I got them about 3 years ago, so far the have been good to me. I take care of my gear, so they should last a long time.

@@islandtime1402 They are good reels.
Just bought the aebco first gen platium at a yardsale for $3. Time to service
Very good, I didnt know That Zebco had a reel with a metal frame. Thanks
You bet. Thanks for the comment. Now go catch a 30 pound Blue Cat on that 808! :)
Balistol is the best thing to use on your reels. WD-40 gets gummy when it gets cold. Balistol , try it if you get a chance. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for the tip! I just use WD to cut the grease with. I will look for the Balistol at the store. Thank you!
I need thumb button can't find that type
You may need to get on ebay and find a parts reel.
my spool comes off by twist lock on my platinum it doesn't have the clip and rings but it's a 5 bearing system platinum 33 kpl
Those are nice reels.
Did you leave out a copper ring?
I dont think so. The copper shim washer?
The bottom of mine wont budge when i try to turn it.
Sometimes you can use a crescent wrench on the button. Watch my most recent repair video.

@@OutFishing13Matthew Hello Matthew
How do you line these reels?
See This video. ua-cam.com/video/0o1QGSPx8xg/v-deo.html. Or any of my other How to Put Fishing Line videos.

Sounds like you have anger management issues. And as you might already realize, it's going to cost you a lot of money breaking things like a child .
At garcia 170 the old ones
I would love to do a service video for an Abu Garcia 170. I don't have one of those.
