And if you're demonstrating an ultra wide lens and showing pictures, don't zoom in, pan out gradually then fade out before you get to the actual full width of the frame! Because it's then a frustrating case of trying to pause the video at an exact time to see the whole photograph!
3:20 RIP my ears! Headphones and amp at maxto hear your voice and then we get that music blasting... Great content otherwise, absolutely enjoyable.... whenever the ringing stops =P
I picked mine up in Hong Kong a few hours ago. I was pleased that Laowa included a UV, polarizing and ND filter! (And I paid less than suggested retail, $425 USD.)
Patrick Desloge Well played, sir! I'm glad they're still including the filters. It was my understanding that would be a limited time only offer. Enjoy the lens. It's a beauty.
This is one of the best lens reviews ever! It addressed all the questions i had, notably the vignetting and the difference between my 10-24 and this 9mm! Oh, and the filter - it's good that they can be fitted, as I always keep a good quality UV over the lens, to avoid faffing around with lens caps. I would love the 8-16mm, but it it so heavy that I would hardly use it. All my Pentax equipment has gone now, because of the weight. I wish they did it in F4! The thing I will miss most is the Irix 11mm on the K1, and this - though I wouldn't think it is as good - is the nearest thing. So, I will be buying it.By the way, the video is fine, it's good to see a 'normal' person just do a plain video showing the virtues and vices of the lens, without a load of snazzy effects. I hadn't noticed the music, so I don't see a problem, as others obviously do!
Hello, I liked your video. I have a Laowa 9mm lens for Fuji and I would like to use it on my BMPCC 4K. Maybe you know if there is an adapter for it? or is it impossible?
Appreciate the examples and the side by side with the 10mm! (But your sound varied in level a lot when the music came on so I had to keep turning it up to hear your voice) Thanks for the review!
Great review. Planning to get this too for my sony a6500. Have u heard about the sigma 8mm -16mm f4.5? Any thoughts about that on how that performs against laowa 9mm f2.8?
To be honest, I have not. Seeing as no Sigma lenses have been released for Fujifilm X mount, I don't have a lot of experience with them. I'd be curious to see how it performs!
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer thanks for the reply but by looking at specs on paper laowa excels in lighter setup, f2.8 and a 12cm minimal focusing distance
Hi Dylan, thank you for video!! Can you please tell me is this good lens for real estate video at F2.8 for darker interiors, will huge vignetting at that F stop be so bad that i can't get good video at the end?
Thanks for your review! I'm wondering what this lens is like compared to the Panasonic Lumix 9mm F/1.7 LEICA? What is the difference between F2.8 and F/1.7 ? Is one better than the other is shooting in low light? I ordered the panasonic one 2 months ago and all the webshites say its out of stock and waiting for it to be sent to them from panasonic, really sloppy!! Anyway ye just wonted to know cos I'll maybe need a refund and get the Laowa asap if this continues
Hi Dylan! Do you still have this lens!? I wonder, when you are changing the aperture does it physically changing to? Since there are no wires it should be the way I think? The lens doesn't know then when a shuter fires. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you in advance.
Excellent review! I thought it was very concise and effective; most of your comments are very practical and it practically answered everything I'd want to know in real life usage. But yes, I would work on the volume control between you and the music, I jumped when the music came on as I was listening on my headphones LOL.\
Just got this on ebay from.a reliable seller for 212 bucks. 11 bucks shipping. My idea for it is a bit different..Square format, black and white, ala The Cranes Are Flying. But seeing your black and white rides I'll have some wide fin too. What a great deal.
thanks for the detailed review. can you just clarify - with this lens on Fuji camera, do you need to set "Shoot without lens" ON in your settings for it to work ?
thank you. I took out today with my X-T3 and couldn't get it to work, unable to find those settings without user manual. only once I got home I found it, it was "hidden" on page 2 of Button/Dial settings
Hi! Do you think Fuji will product a super wide prime? I dream a 9 or 12mm f/2 after 35, 23 and 50. Of course with autofocus and zero vignetting. Too much? Thank you for your nice and usefull video! Great images.
Hi Peter! Hard to say! I think FujiRumors might be the place to pop this question. I think a lot of people would love a super-wide angle from Fuji and we know they listen to their users. It's probably not off the cards.
But auto focus is not a necessary requirement for super wide lenses isn't it? This lens is pretty good enough and fuji already have 10-24 so i don't think they will give an another F2 series for wide view.
please pick one for ultra wide angle lens between Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D and Rokinon Samyang 12mm f2 and Rokinon 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Lens if money not a issue just plane quality
That's an impossible question to answer without knowing exactly what you like to shoot. It is a question you can answer. They're all great quality lenses, but what exactly do you want to do with them? I discuss this question more in my video on wide-angle lenses, and again in another video with my friend Roy Cruz on the same topic. Maybe these videos will help you to answer your question: ua-cam.com/video/zTVaYkAGS7c/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/dOuAYhkiJrk/v-deo.html
These lenses are all good for the applications you suggested. They're all great lenses and you'll be happy with any one of them. You need to consider just how wide you want to go and if you'll need the faster aperture. :)
karacop78 Unfortunately not something we can really test here. Air quality and light pollution stop us from being able to. You'll have to find another review for that unfortunately. :(
The voice is too low, the music too loud...
Thanks for the feedback.
Indeed, great and informative but the music booms and the voice is audible but only just, forcing me to adjust the volume.
im really wondering why you dont fix this
You can always make your own video...

Thanks a lot! Glad it was helpful! The world has enough over-the-top effects without me adding to it. Thanks again for warching!
Finally, i bought this 9mm lens. It is AMAZING......thanks a lot Dylan
It's a great lens, to be sure.

I honestly have no idea. Perhaps chatting with Laowa or maybe B&H?
Hi nice video - be mindful of your music volumes - too loud!! Keep um coming
Thanks!

One of the first videos I made... lots of comments just like this one. Things are getting better around here, I promise! Thanks for watching.
3:24 Monkey Magic flashback! I'm looking at getting this for the Leica TL2 later this year -- do you have an affiliate code for the AU store?
I think they improved on the vignetting and sharpness at 2.8. I just got this lens yesterday and hardly notice any
Hello sir please recommend a good variable ND filter for this laowa 9mm lens to avoid vignetting
Thanks a lot for that. Useful. Straightforward practical information, well done. Keep it up!
Thanks, Michael!

That's all correct. It's a fully manual lens with no CPU contacts.

Nice! That's a good deal for this little treat!
Hi, so using step up rings will still show some portion edge of the filter?
That depends heavily on the step-up ring. Try to get quite a large one with a low profile and you should be fine.
Looking forward to using this with my XT3. Can you tell me why I can't get it to shoot on an XE1? What settings do I need to change and to what?
Turn on the "Shoot without lens" setting.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer thanks will try it out - once weather improves!
Does Lightroom have a lens profile for this lens to correct distortion?
thanks for the detailed review. can you just clarify - with this lens on Fuji camera, do you need to set "Shoot without lens" ON in your settings for it to work ?
Yes. All non-cpu lenses will require that setting. :)

Good review but the sound volume difference is huge between the samples and the talky bits.
For using the phrase "talky bits" you get a heart. Thanks for the feedback!
this lens have a correction profile in adobe camera raw?
Samyang 8 profile?
As far as I know, there is no official one. I'm sure you could find approximate settings and save them as a preset.
That music is SUPERLOUDDDDDDDDDDD!
Thanks great review
music is tooooo loud.
Man, the music
Where can I get this w e mount
Wan Izzat Just follow the link above. They have an e mount selection.
Thanks.
Nice Jake and Elwood shirt... Music is way to much...
please balance your speech volume with your music volume. my poor ears @1:56 T_T
The loud music will only keep me from finishing viewing this video. Why not fix it and still leave it there?
Wow

Yes it is. But this is not Japan. :)
