Well, speaking as average joe Reynald and the Templars became allies after I destroyed the second castle and the Seljuk became immediately hostile. Which I think is how it is supposed to go. But your way of playing revealed that there also seems to be a timer for them becoming allies, which might have started after you refused to pay tributes. Which I find really interesting design wise. So I think it is pretty cool when you veer off the beaten path, because it reveals alternative strategies or simply the limits of the level design.
I'm like 3 months late, but, 30:33 you hit Imperial Age, and Reynald and the Knight Templars turn into allies back again.
The alliance trigger fired for me when I took over two fortresses (since I chickened out and paid the Seljuks and thus could actually push back) - I rescued Simon very early on, had the same issue with losing fish to that one tower, and was just as confused as you were about Fereters.
Campaign : pay at least the early tribute

I think if you don't pay it becomes a "survive until red and blue ally you".
If you do pay you have to destroy two castles to get them to ally.

You must have encountered a bug. Reynald and Templars should have joined you only after you capture 2 of the Templar castles or destroy Reynald's TC or Castle.
I did not pay the Seljuks, not even once but not on hard xD...
I really loved that you did!! makes it more fun to watch you use 100% in campaign
Did the others ally you after some time like they did for Viper, or did he just get lucky with a bugged trigger?
@@rainbowevil nope, they allied with me after some time. Since it wasn't on hard I was actually breaching Seljuks walls by the point the others allied with me... seems like a timer of some sorts.
I've heard that every time Viper plays a campaign, 100 puppies are adopted!
I'm always stoked when you do the campaigns and hope you do all of them, including the old ones you didn't complete yet. ☺
This reynald was the same reynald from the attacking the trade routes mission in the saladin camapign lol

I like that you made the mission harder for you. I think you should try to do that in future missions aswell because you are more experienced that the average aoe youtuber who uploads the missions, so we have other sources for normal played missions. But it is not possible to see missions played like u did.
