Michaelangelo Antonioni, Jean-Luc GODard, Jean Renoir, Fritz Lang, Yasujiro Ozu, Robert Bresson - Orson - Kenji Misoguchi
I'm from South India.
Excellent line-up. I guessed Steven Spielberg would be the first, and I'm glad they made it to the top. Yes, Steven Spielberg is the best director ever.
Excluding Satyajit Ray & Andrei Tarkovsky from a list of best filmmakers is an act of crime!
You also missed some of all time legends :
Michealangelo Antonio, Fritz Lang, Jean-Luc Godard, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan Wook, Wang Kar Wai etc.
Kurbrick , Kurosawa , Tarkovsky , Bergman & Ray are the 5 pillers of world cinema. Period!
Exactly
Laughable inclusions: Milos Forman, James Cameron, Clint Eastwood
Glaring omissions: Buster Keaton, Fritz Lang, Jean Renoir, Howard Hawks, Frank Capra, Yashujiro Ozu, Kenji Mizoguchi, Michael Powell, Luis Bunuel, Roberto Rossellini, Orson Welles, John Cassavetes, Michelangelo Antonioni, Jean-Luc Godard, Lars Von Trier, Zhang Yimou, Pedro Almodovar, David Lynch.
My top 10
Hitchcock
Renoir
Ford
Hawks
Bergman
Scorsese
Powell
Kubrick
Fellini
Speilberg
You missed Fred Zinneman Howard Hawks and Frankenheimer
Paul Thomas Anderson, Micheal Mann, Brian de Palma, David Lynch and Don Siegel are not in this list so this list can not be taken seriously.
Another list. These lists are stupid and exist just as clickbait.
Not that good of a list. Modern bias left out Hawks, Stevens, Houston, Wellman, Capra, Walsh, Peckinpaugh, Altman among others. Also, I am sure Woody Allen would laugh at this being ranked above Bergman, Kurosawa and Fellini, who all should be in the top five.
This is a lot better a list than I believe FILM RANT is called. Was surpirsed that Welles was not listed here, the other other one did have him on.
My list...Tarantino,Almodovar,Polanski,Coppola..Spilberg,Kurosawa,...
I'm impressed 👍. it's very good list 💯
@TOPLIST1111 i know❤️
As is obvious from these comments no two people are ever going to agree on the 25 greatest movie directors. However, I do agree that leaving off John Frankenheimer is criminal!
Important all these directors i don' t say no, but where is David Lynch, Jean Pierre Melville, Francois Truffaut, Yasuhiro Ozu, Elia Kazan, Orson Welles, Sam Peckinpah and Brian De Palma. And Spielberg in the first place;! And Cameron so high on the list;
Nobody agree with this list, me neither but I agree the 25 directors are good and very important to the cinema
Stephen Spielberg is number 1? Ahead of Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock? Give me a damned break.
Jaws & E.T. ALONE put him above most. But hey! It's all subjective tho!!
I think you forget to tell the name Satyajit Ray
no orson welles?
It's amazing that your list does not include William Wyler who directed diametrically opposed masterpieces with brilliance - The Collector and Ben Hur.
Did you miss Goddar, Truffet and Satyajit Ray??? Or did I???
I respect all the directors here, but where is Satyajit Ray?
Spielberg at top looks stupid TBVH!
Michael Curtiz, Bill Wellman, William Wyler, Howard Hawkes....geez Louise...get a life.
John huston and mankiewitch
Mit 70-80% gehe ich mit. Aber Tarantino so weit hinten?
Kein Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Oliver Stone, Luc Besson, Danny Boyle, Robert Zemeckis, John Carpenter, Brian de Palma, David Lynch, John Hughes, Fritz Lang....... und zusammen mit Steven Spielberg der größte aller Zeiten George Lucas.
No David Lynch.
D.W. Griffith? Other silent era directors? French New Wave? Neo-Realism? Your list is a little heavy on present day blockbuster directors and light on directors from pre-1970. Spielberg ahead of Kubrick and Scorsese is debatable. But thankfully, George Lucas didn't make the list.
Frank Zappa
William Friedkin ?
Good choice👍
Where is Orson?
A very bad list. None of them, bar John Ford and Akira Kurosawa, know what to do with a camera. Seijun suzuki, Jacques Becker, Bernardo Bertolucci, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Marcel Carne, Fritz Lang, Douglas Sirk. Please be honest.😅
Total BS. My favourite director here is Scorsese. However, Hitchcock inspired just sbout every director on this list. Scorsese himself stated as much in interviews.
I'm not even sure Scorsese is a genius director. The continuity in his films is notoriously off. He does have a knack for getting excellent performances from his cast and the stories he weaves stay with you because they're moral tales without being preachy and as such are hugely appealing.
David Lynch, Pedro Almodóvar, Luis Buñuel, Jane Campion, Spike Lee… except for Kurosawa this quite a white men’s club you have here… couldn’t you really think of any women?
this was good for a laugh if it wasn't so terribly awful. Too bad you had to dumb it down for the dumbbell public by leaning way too heavily on current directors.
Of course you left off the two most influential directors in the history of cinema...Griffith and Welles. And where is Hawks, Lubitsch, Keaton, Lang, Rossellini, Renoir, Godard, Truffaut, Mizoguchi, Ozu, Bunuel, Murnau, Sternberg, Bresson, Tarkovsky etc etc.. I could go on but why bother.
It' a joke no orson wells
Are you serious?!! Tarantino not in the top five? I know Hitchcock is a great director, but who watches him now?
The video is called The Best Directors of All Time, not The Best Directors of Today
I do - frequently
Tarantino's favorite director is Sergio Leone.
