Hi Ken, an allways-willing DKW RT-50 - 50cc (ex-police) light motor-bike started my motorcycle career beginning of the seventies. In a kind of a barn-find, I stumbled over one of these:, a real R26, (hey, where is that other cylinder?!), relax, its a 250cc - 6Volts battery needed for starting!, but running great like yours Ken. I bought it directly and drove it right home on a very cold misty winter-day.
The Easy-Rider handle-bar was the first object to disappear. Riding in the Belgian steep Ardennes with a pillion mountain-up and enough luggage, the bike started jimmy-ing like crazy, almost sending us to the deep. Once safe at home again, I bought the R 69 handlebar. Felt great. So, many short rides followed, I rode it most for commuting , home, work, study for almost 2 years here in The Netherlands. And during a holiday with pillion again, we went to our "neighbours", the Belgian-Ardennes, German-Eifel, Hunsrück and Saar-land. Than a broken inlet-valve made an end to that great ride. A long train-ride brought us and bike back home in the Netherlands. My faulty parking in that train (k-deng, k-deng, k-deng) caused a bonus broken frame down near the engine mountings. Everything could be fixed in the following weeks and a few months later I could sell this machine prior buying its much heavier and fastest brother than: a R69S. The start of a period with many splendid rides.
Just being almost 72, when possible still riding and enjoying one those great BMW-engines: my R1100RSL (1997).
That R26 (just a few years jounger as I was than), just triggered everything I wanted to explore at that time. Very good memories to the looks, sounds, ways of cornering and discovering, riding numerous landscape at last. Thank you for viewing this Ken.

I was talking to my computer screen saying "Ken, stop riding that thing around so we can take a look at it." Beautiful bike.

Such a beautiful unicorn. It's very rare for BMW back in those times to built a single cylinder bike. They away make boxer twins. Must be like a treasure for collectors

I believe it shifts into 1st easily because of the big dry clutch, no drag.
