Sorry if this is a repeat reply...but why are so many people that critical/negative/pessimistic. ..etc...He never made any specific claims about what it (soil/rock/clay/granite/lava, etc) would actually go through....bottom line it's a great invention and if it suits your ground type, patience, and physicality depending on how hard your "ground" is...then please just admire a man who is (seems to be...I don't know him at all) showing you another great option for fence post holes!! Thank you for your invention...Who ever you are!

Thank you so much for being a bit more observant than most. I am 70 years old, retired engineer and I love the physics of this digger. It is easy to use and saves the back. I have had two bulging discs and a crushed disc. No surgery and this hole was easy to dig. Many people cannot afford to hire tractors to come dig a few post holes. It is not the speed but the ease. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Please visit the web page. www.holeymoleydigger.com. By the way the orders are coming in and the business is growing. I like rebuilding America one digger at a time. thanks again.

Turns out the best method for digging a straight hole with the Holey Moley Digger is to just look down and keep the vacuum tube centered in the hole. Works like a charm, no extra cost for plumb bob. Sometimes the simplest method is overlooked by everyone, including me.

Totally awesome, what a common sense approach to digging a hole quickly and without power tools. All you would need is a heavy duty dust collector to go in between the vacuum and post hole digger and your vacuum would never see any of the dirt!!

    • @titusnelson4958
      @titusnelson4958  7 років тому

That device would be a cyclonic separator on top of a collection can. Works great. I would be glad to sell that but as you can see from comments that the current price is too much. So, what I did was develop the Post Hole Core Digger, which lifts very little dirt. The digger cuts a core and the vacuum holds the plug inside while you lift it out of the hole. You get the best of two worlds. holeymoleydigger.com/product/post-hole-core-digger/ scan down and watch the video. thanks for your replay I appreciate you taking the time to watch and to reply

Great demonstration. When the video started, showing the hole being dug with an older white-haired guy, I thought this will be interesting. The older guy barely broke a sweat to show the ease of the method. Great video. I hope the young guys watching this for that weekend project at home are willing to give this a try as there is not much physical manual labor involved. The hole is completed with next to no clean-up at this hole site. That in itself makes this a very worthwhile method. Again, Great Video!

It will cut through steel pipe, electrical conduit, water pipes, tree roots, and much more. There are a lot of things it won't go through. This is not a do-it-all tool. Like any tool, right tool for the job, and the material. Made is the USA too. We are putting people to work. Lot of positive stuff here you just have to recognize it.... Thanks for watching.

after this video, I got a huge shop vac and vacuumed mulch into it and just dragged it to the flower bed and dumped it out . WAY better than shoveling. Also did it with topsoil. Dug a 70 foot drain and used that same shop vac to suck the dirt out. I am getting the holey moley to do fence posts. That earthquake auger was brutal, as far as the effects on your body. All that shaking and vibration erodes your vertebrae and causes nerve damage with prolonged use.
I worked as a Nurse in pain management, we had so many people with back and nerve issues from vibrating machinery. Even if it takes twice as long, your body isn't being damaged.

When you hit a rock, remove the digger and use the vacuum hose to suck the dirt from around the rock for easy removal. If you need a bigger hole for a large rock we have reamers up to 12 inches. This allows for keeping the hole uniform with minimum dirt removal and getting those bad rocks out. Use the shop vacuum to your advantage it is a very under utilized tool. See us at cat6tools.com/. Here is our new web site, Home of the Holey Moley Digger. cat6tools.com/

I have to comment because I have alot of postholes to dig in spring and I loath listening to a gas auger for hours, you usually need two people to run it AND there's a pile of tailings to shovel up to try and pack down the hole, unless your using concrete to set your posts but either way it's a frickin mess that I hate dealing with, but besides the speed of your device (Outstanding BTW!) the fact that the tailings from the hole are nicely contained in the Shop Vac instead of all around the post hole, Freaking Awesome. Well done Sir and thanks, one of your devices will save me alot of time this spring!

I could think of another use for this device!
Gold prospecting in dry sandy country like we have here downunder.
Basically all our goldfields are in deserts where sometimes it doesn't rain in a decade.
So we have no water or sluices etc for gold prospecting everything is either a metal detector and or a dry blower.
With this device you could core drill all your sample holes & pan off (or dry blow) each one back at camp if you just put the dust into a sample bag for each hole!.
The traditional way was to dig costeans trenches by hand in the old days or with a backhoe or trencher these days - to try and ascertain what direction the gold is coming from.
A series of holes like this would seem much simpler because it gathers and contains the dust for you at each sample hole.
Once you work out where its coming from - well then you might get a grader or dozer in to strip off the top soil but at least you would know where to spend the diesel stripping ff the non pay dirt from the top to get at the good pay dirt below.
This has me wondering why the mining drillers who do all the ore sampling for big mining operations don't utilize this technique on a bigger industrial scale at least where it collects the samples for them, when they are drilling claims to prove deposits before going to the stock market with a prospectus once they have confirmed likely reserves from their core drill samples.
This method would seem to be a lot faster method & these days time is money as they say.
Maybe they need the traditional drilling methods to penetrate rock maybe?.
Interesting all the same. Enjoyed the video for sure.
I dug a lot of fencepost holes back in my day 4 feet down for a deer fence... many kilometers of it... I wish I woulda had one of these to do it! I used a old long drop post hole digger & a crow bar and sledge hammer - it was hard going all the way.
Wish you every success with it.

      @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ 7 років тому

Ian Moone this would be LOUSY for core sampling....it gives you a pile that doesn't tell you the stratification of debris or at what depth the gold is at. The depth and amount together tell you if that area is to be checked, that is why they they do "core" sampling instead of just using an earth auger and pulling up soil....
THAT SAID, for small operations that are only going to check down a few feet, could easily fill a niche...

I really like that you can secure the post (2") in the hole without cement.
I'd put air behind, supplying the cutting head, it would make it a lot more efficient. A double walled cutting pipe design with adjustable supply air opening at/near the top.

been doing this method of excavation for 20 years on an industrial scale in the construction industry. We called this vacuum pot holing, for locating underground utilities without damaging them. No cutter head involved. Used presurized water and vacuum only. I personally got this method approved by MDOT to install traffic light bases instead of the auger method that was the only approved way at the time. Nice homeowners tool though.

Lol. I was thinking the same thing. Same with the clay in Georgia and Alabama. The clay in my backyard bent the blades of the two-inch arbors I tried. Never got deeper than about four to five inches. Nothing short of heavy duty commercial equipment has any chance of getting through that stuff.

    • @robinstewart6510

@clandestine2178 .. Nonsense. It's virtually impossible, for either men or boys, to dig a 4 to 6 inch wide hole 3 or 4 feet deep with a pickaxe.

titus, watched the video. you did a really great job developing this.
I have patented an idea and am now beginning the marketing.
and honestly it's a daunting job, everyone is a critic, and has seen it before, knows it won't work, seen a better one, etc etc.etc.
I have dug hundreds of holes 1 foot in diameter by 4 foot deep in sand, clay, hard pan, river edge gravel, clay and ledge, etc. for deck piers
where I live in western mass rocks are between 6 inches and 24 inches across and can weigh well over 100 pounds.
I can tell. you if I was still digging holes for decks I would buy this just on the off chance it would do even half the holes halfway down.
its a great innovation, looks well made, really a great price for the labor it offsets.
I wish you great luck and hope the money holds until you make it big time. wishing you the very best, Geoff

Need more airflow. Max with a shop vacuum at 12 amps is about 200 CFM. A shallow well to 20 feet is relatively easy unless you get into soft ground or gravel that keeps flowing in. Then you have a problem. The physics of this device has potential to do 75 to 100 feet depending on the soil. At that depth the weight of the digger becomes an issue for a single user without lifting equipment.

Very clever idea. In principle, it's just like the drills that people use for wells, but you're replacing the drilling mud with air flow to remove the tailings. If you add a bit of water to the dirt when you backfill the hole, it should consolidate and hold the post with a rock-solid grip.

I think this is great. Since my 6 ft bar is worn down to 3 ft from digging a large hole that is need to put in posts. We use to mix a little Portland cement and water with the fine dirt. Amazing that it has lasted for 25 years.

Try a digger out. It makes digging holes a blast.

Titus Look like it works very well beats the hell out of a post hole digger and it looks like you will have a much better cleaner and stronger hole to back fill.

That was good, except of course for the hole being so damn crooked. When I install a fence post, I really go for level.

I'm laughing. Hard to focus on level when you're making a video, fighting mike cords, low camera batteries, barking dogs, kids yelling in swimming pools, and gardeners with leaf blowers. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate you taking time to watch the video and making a comment. Have a good one.

2:48 "We just went through another rock." Where I'm from everything that can fit up the tube and into the vacuum are considered "fines." The rocks which we have more than I want to admit to start at 8". Between the fines and the 8" rocks is just gravel. Looks like a cool tool for a sandy piece of property though.

I think most yard sticks are 3 foot, I have never heard of a different length.

They have some rulers that are very long. I would mark feet my conduct 1/2 pipe 10 foot long or whatever I want as a ruler.

Wow that's an interesting way to go about it. Would not have figured a shop vac would have enough power.
