    • @haziqshaukat3713
      @haziqshaukat3713 4 роки тому +8

      @@Mirador1 We actually use both in school and at school, for slightly different situations. At school means the person is literally, physically, inside the school. ... In school means the person is studying in general (usually at college or university) but not necessarily inside the school building at that moment.

      @@Mirador1 I think "in" only correct. "At" and "in" can both be used in some situations example "at school" indicates morely the location not particularly inside the building may be outside or may be inside the building but "in school" indicates particularly inside the school building.

The only way I was able to differentiate these prepositions is by reading English literature and other written materials so I was able to get more exposure to the English language. I also like watching English films and listening to English songs.

      @whatevergoesforme5129 3 роки тому

      @@final1064 I come from the Philippines, a former US colony and that is why American English became our second language. We started learning English grammar in elementary but we use English as a medium of instruction starting from preschool onwards so we have become familiar with the English language at an early age, especially when many families living in the National Capital Region even use English at home with a mixture of that region's language. Of course, sometimes our mother tongue gets in the way of learning English well, but if you study in a very good school, your English is going to be above average, with some being native-like.

      The phrase "He is looking" is grammatically incorrect. Look is a verb of appearance. And there is not present continuous for the wood look. Instead present simple would take the place of present continuous. The phrase should be " He looks at."

    So when to use 'on'? Or 'in'? When position is considered?

    • @raffiart5121
      @raffiart5121 5 років тому +1

      That very much depends on your relative position to the location you are talking about. If you are talking to your friend miles away from the airport, you will say “I’ll meet you at the airport “ but if you are right in front of the airport you will say “let’s talk about this in the airport “
      If you are traveling by the train, you will say “I am on the train” if you are trying to emphasize your location, you will say “ I am in the train “.

      AT for specific locations like restaurants, school, arena, gym and etc.
      While IN for general locations, like countries or cities.
      ON when stating a street name. Like "on the 11th street"
      I hope it helps.

    That triangle rule does not apply when it comes to the phrases "in the morning/afternoon/evening".

    • @syedbd8
      @syedbd8 4 роки тому

      If you mean in the morning , evening. And night so again according to triangle, see the time period whether it's narrow or goes for a little wider period.

      In the morning/afternoon/evening simply does not belong to the third category. It isn't a longer period than 1 day or 1 date. That's all I'm saying.

    It would be confusing when the concept explains about some places such as
    On campus and not in campus
    In Market and not at the market
    I am pointing at you, and not on you...
    Anyone can explain these?

    A very good lesson! I never paid attention to this. I knew it was "on" not "in" a week day, but I spoke sometimes "on" sometimes "in" dependence day. Now I speak only "on" ..... day.😀
