    I like the positive ending, it's the magic of cinema. Because in real life, following an event like that, the amount of debris and dust in the atmosphere would cause a nuclear winter that would potentially last for undreds of years and it is very likely that the survivors will never come out of the bunkers and will die of hunger or asphyxiation.

    • @clonexx
      @clonexx 12 годин тому +9

      I was gonna say, that ending is pure cinema “we want a happy ending”. A planet killer bigger than the one that wiped out the dinosaurs wouod wipe out 99% of all life, create a nuclear winter type effect that would last decades, drop the temp of the planet to freezing temps and choke everything. If the bunker wasn’t stocked for 30+ years of rations, water, filtration, etc. no one survives. Basically the planet would reset, heal over a very long period of time and something else would eventually rise to rule the planet. Either way, humanity’s time on earth would come to an end.

    I was bummed out that we didn't get to see the planet killer properly at the end but the budget is just 35 Million dollars, so it makes sense. I gotta say, rewatching it with you guys, I appreciate the film more now. It's heavy and serious where, in order to make up for a lack of disaster sequences (the film still gives you a decent amount), it focuses on the characters and that works really well.
    Now, YOU GUYS GOTTA WATCH a true underrated gem, a small budget Australian disaster flick: THESE FINAL HOURS. It's right up your alley and has some similarities with Greenland.

      I think the difference is, in a 2012 sequel, you KNOW there would be more disasters. for this, it will likely be more the human drama of rebuilding. probably closer to something like the walking dead in the later years, after the zombies took a back seat to bad people being bad.

There is very little comedy in this film, shows both good and bad in humanity. I’m glad you guys finally watched it, I’m one of those guys who has been pushing it for a while. • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC 16 годин тому +3

      In reality it would have been even worse probably. And when the full comet Clarke actually made impact - oh boy. I'm sure you've probably watched videos about what would happen if a giant comet or asteroid hit the Earth or searched what would happen. It's not pretty that's for sure. On the impact side, instant incineration for the entire impact/blast zone - literally vaporizing everything. Then the shockwave itself would obliterate everything for 10,000 miles or more, not many structures would survive but it wouldn't destroy everything of course. I could go on, but again I'm sure you've read about it etc. Greenland did a terrific job showing some of what really would happen in this sort of scenario. And its mind blowing because it WILL happen again. A "planet killer" will come along one day, whether it's 10 years from now, 100, 10,000 or a million years away. I wonder if humans will be around to see it though, at this point I doubt it. But if we are, maybe we'll be advanced enough to actually protect the planet. Maybe.

    • @RaptorNX01
      @RaptorNX01 6 годин тому +2

      and don't forget the crust of the earth actually bulging. so the opposite side of the planet would deform, likely cause volcanos and massive earthquakes, before the blast/fire wall from the main impact circles around and hits with enough force to fling debris into space.

    Also, yes, this film is underrated. There's no action-packed plan to blow the comet up, it's just coming, it's inevitable and only a handful people are selected to survive. It's raw, brutal and frighteningly realistic.
    And seeing the satellite image of the impact thinking "well, my country had just been wiped off the face of the planet" was pretty eerie.

    Some of you remember Deep Impact, Mimi Leder's movie from 1998? Well, this is not a remake or reboot of it, but an update of those idea: ordinary people in the same extraordinary circumstance: a comet's fall threatening planet Earth. But where Deep Impact paid tribute to the famous disaster movies from the 70s, Greenland forget that to set the story in the 21st century, with all that implies. It's a great movie to me. And Gerard Butler is the ultimate version of the action hero. Pure talent on screen.

    Films like this are a good way to remind people to have an 'emergency kit'. Nothing too serious: a multitool, a steel container to boil water and cook, rain gear, first aid, 550 paracord, etc.
    Also, nice to see Holt McCallany, haven't seen him since Fight Club.

    I was one who suggested this film. The human element of this movie makes it really stand out. The end of the world should FEEL like the end of the world and not just a summer blockbuster. Certainly you could argue there is a time and place for both sides... but this stands out for me.
    Speaking of suggestions. I am once again suggesting that you guys pick up the Interview with the Vampire series. IMO its the best show on TV right now. The writing and acting are INSANE.

    Greenland is like a lesson to Roland Emmerich. The gap between Ric Roman Waugh's movie and the soulless 2012 is almost scary. Emmerich completely forgot he had to tell a story about people, he got lost in the CGI. Waugh's film is a disaster film about a big ass meteorite, but what matters most is the characters.
    I'm curious to see what the sequel will look like... but something tell me that the kid won't be played by the same actor, and that kinda worries me because the kid actor in Greenland is pretty awesome.

    Oh man, I'm so glad you guys reacted to Greenland! No one reacts to this movie for some reason (other than when it came out in 2020 of course, but there's loads more reaction channels now) and it baffles me. One of the most underrated disaster flicks possibly ever. And the fact it's good, well made, scientifically accurate (more or less, obviously some stuff was fudged for dramatic purposes, but it's mostly pretty spot on) and has really good emotional acting backed up by a pretty solid script = amazing disaster drama. They've been making a sequel for a couple years now (I think they just finished filming it recently for release sometime next year) so I'm really curious how that's going to go. Is it going to be a rebuilding movie (and maybe another comet comes along to finish the job? lol) or take place parallel to this story from another family's perspective? Who knows? I can't wait though.
    This movie and San Andreas need more reactions. Both are incredibly well made and good disaster movies that don't get any love really. At this Greenland is getting that sequel. San Andreas's sequel has been in development hell since the movie made mint at the box office. And The Rock has said he wants to do it, so I'm not sure what's stopping that one. Anyways, thanks for this reaction. Always a good time having one of my favorite reaction duos react to one of my favorite movies - it just hits different :)

    Fun fact: I was stationed at the base this was filmed at, while they were filming it. I know/knew all the military police guys they had filmed. I had considered putting my name up for being in it, but they wanted us to do the filming after working 12hr shifts. I valued my bed more lol
    Another fun fact: It's a 20 min drive from the gate they entered in at, to the flightline where they were loading up. It would've taken Gerard almost 2hrs to run from the gate to the plane. That was the most unrealistic part of this movie for me 😂

That architect will have a ton of work to do.

    i held it together emotionally all through the movie until the moment the little boy says "where are the flashes?" he knew this was it, this was the end of his short life, something a child shouldn't have to deal with, then his parents telling him the most important thing, they love each other and no matter what happens they are together.
