The Rubin Report is the only talk show about free speech and big ideas on UA-cam. Each week Dave Rubin uses logic and reason to have honest conversations about politics, polarizing issues, current events, and more. Dave goes one on one with thought leaders, authors, and comedians in 'The Sit Down,' moderates opposing voices in 'The Panel,' and gives his unfiltered thoughts in 'Direct Message.' I found The power of now 7 years ago in a Salvation Army donation box i used to sleep in while i was homeless and addicted to drugs and that book helped me literally and metaphorically crawl out of that box. Thank you!
That is amazing :)

This is the best interview ever! 😊
I found this book during the death of my marriage after finding out my husband had conceived a child with another woman. I remember standing in my room starring out the window and having a moment similar to what Eckhart talks about in the first 6 mins of this video. The book changed my life. I’ve read his books more times than I can count now. Every time I start to slip into unconsciousness or come to listen to Eckhart or read his teachings. ✨
I am sorry you experienced that... In a similar position now. Thank you for your recommendation.
Pure rubbish is that book.
I love how Rubin listened and let Eckhart make his points without interrupting him. Something most interviewers can't do.
I guess he was following Larry King's

@@jesusbermudez6775 It is about you.
@@karenkneisley288 I am not sure what you mean by being about me. It is a useless book. As a person I am an extremely able person who wrote a program in C/C++ that sold over 1,000 copies. Also as a person I am extremely at peace with myself. Something Mr Tolle is not. I am extremely at peace with myself because as a child I observed life in the following manner. 1. Why do I need information if I can do mathematics and solve problems from scratch. 2. Adults are like children who play with other things. 3. I should be fine because I can do mathematics and play football. I can outdo the children who do mathematics better than me because I can play football better than them; and I can outdo the children who play football better than me because I can do better mathematics than them. Mr Tolle would never understand those three observations of mine as a child. So there is nothing that his books can be of any use to me.

big time!!!
It wasnt. Great addition nonetheless.
“I can’t live with myself anymore” Eckhart said at 29 at the peak of his suicidal depression. Then he stood back from the statement and thought, “That’s strange. Are there two of me? Who is this self that I can’t stand?”.
This triggered his spiritual awakening and his realization that he was not his tortured thinking mind but was peaceful presence and conscious awareness.

@@manuelabeltran this isn't junk. This is missing from the new age. We need this more urgently!
@@rednarok I have read his books. I spent years involved in new age thought without calling it that because new agers dont like "labels". The power of now is one of the first books every new ager starts with. Oprah Winfrey has been the queen of propping up all these new age celebrities and their books. Ekar Tolle, Depak Chopra, Rhonda Byrne and many more. At the end of the day all these people are charlatans giving you a belief system for you think that you can be like god. This is a very seductive path to take because everyone wants to be god, create, manifest and be enlightened. Not going to happen unless you sell your soul willingly or blindly. The truth is that no human can ever become god, no human can ever create life. From the begining of humanity, humans have fallen to temptation to be like god and this has been the very root of all our problems. Read Genesis in the Bible. There is only one God, he is Jesus Christ, the King of kings and the only saviour from human's fallen state. Dont let these new agers tell you who Jesus was, do your diligent research and become aware why he came to the world. You can choose to try to be god and see on your own where this deception takes you. At the end of the day God gave us all free will, it is up to us to use it wisely or not
@@manuelabeltran Jesus is just another name going down to mythology like the rest of hundreds of prophets and gods, but we should not discredit the meaning behind said religions, just the fanatics ruling them. I was going through some bad mental health in college, constant anxiety/depression (not unlike most college kids) but I was heavily using alcohol and porn as a crutch, longing for companionship but repelling everyone with my current state, stuck in the cycle. Then on a summer off I delivered subs for Jimmy John's using my dad's car, and found my dad had all Eckart's New Earth on CDs in the player, and it would just start playing when I'd start driving. I had no clue who he was, or what his shtick was all about, but eventually I became obsessed with it, like my new bible, and it really helped change my life. Very thankful for the random chance that brought me to exactly the kind of wisdom I needed.

My Take On Things I like some things about him and his genius but he’s too much of a friend of Oprah so that takes away from him. Oprah is a new age witch.
Eckhart is not important, what he says is. The mind will trick one very easily, it will help you switch from Alcohol to Eckhart but it will never allow you break dependencies (books, drugs, alcohol, Eckhart, Gautama the Buddha etc) and ask yourself the question "who is this 'I'?" that everyone refers every time. Also please note that "Who am I?" is not a question, instead it is a device, for you to turn your attention from outward to inward. Why you have to look inward? the reason is: "What you pay attention is what you become conscious of". Key is in ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION. Other keywords that are important are Alertness, Awareness, and Consciousness. Alertness helps us to find where our attention is. Once you are attentive you consciously use awareness to navigate the world consciously. When you point that alert attention on yourself what you find is YOURSELF itself.

The teaching of Jesus and the teaching of Buddha. Both religions say the same thing, but from a different point of view. Islam and Judaism are different, more cruel and exclusive instead of compassionate like true Christianity (the teachings of Jesus, not the Catholic Church) and Buddhism are. In terms of practicality, Zen Buddhism is probably the most linear path to enlightenment- with its many instructions that Eckhart also incorporated, to finding God.

Probably a million of these kinds of posts, but the power of now really helped me to get out of being depressed and full of anxiety. Oddly, so did Jordan Peterson. They're two opposite approaches to the issue, but i'd say Eckart Tolle's plane way of guiding you into a state of peace was very effective. I hadn't slept in about 5-6 days and ended up going to the hospital thinking I had a heart attack, at the hospital the doctors were pretty useless, but the nurse staff was amazing. One of them, a gentleman by the name of Dennis recommended the Power of Now to me. I got the audio book and started listening to it that day on the plane to Colorado. By the time my wife and I got into our Airbnb, I was feeling much more calm. That night I slept for the first time in a week, almost 3 hours of sleep. Hilarious how much that meant to me at the time, I just couldn't sleep and actually just meditating my way into unconsciousness was tremendously helpful. After that I was able to regularly get at least a few hours of sleep every night. About 2 months went by with me getting progressively more sleep, and then just one night, I simply passed out for about 16 hours. I still practice much of what Tolle talks about. It changed my life for the better. Thank you for having him on and potentially helping people who may be stuck in that same way of thinking.
Manjikoa are you sleeping better now? I’d love to know... I also deal with this but not as bad
@@boltonlaurie1136 I am indeed. I'm back to being able to sleep around 7-8 hours a night. It's usually pretty consistent. On occasion I'll have a very difficult time sleeping, and I'll just lay in bed and focus on my breathing. Aligning my thoughts with what I'm actually doing. I'll lay their for 4-5 hours and be in a sort of semi, conscious state, where I'm mostly just focusing on being internally silent, and usually feeling the rhythm of my body. That only lasts for a night most times. On two occasions it lasted for a weekend. I still feel pretty rested, but I'm not to the point where meditation is in anyway better than sleep. I should note it has helped me lower my bloodpresure by a substaintial amount, about 25 points systolic, 20 points diastolic and. Used to have a blood preasure of around 155/100, now I'm down to 130/80 average through out the day. Which is helpful because I really didn't want to start taking meds for it. I should note, I also lost 30 lbs, and make sure to exercise every day. I just give credit to meditation for being able to institute self-discipline.
Manjikoa thank you so much for replying. This is wonderful to hear. So you attribute Eckart’s teachings to heal and calm your mind, basically your whole nervous system so that you can sleep again? I am inspired to dive deep with his teachings to have peace and good sleep.
Manjikoa One more question, do you have a daily meditation practice which you implemented after listening to Eckart? I am thinking that it would help heal my sleep patterns and overactive mind.
@@boltonlaurie1136 Yes, every night the healing meditation where I move my consciousness to each part of the body until it starts to feel alive, it is a starter for the meditation at the beginning of chapter 7. It's very helpful.

When you've been looking 🆙@ home to find wherever you could HANG from the last 2 months. Then you WAKE🆙 after your brother sends you this interview!!!
I'M THANKFUL!
Don't believe every thought which comes into your head.
That was my favorite part also. It is such excellent advice!
The key to psychological strength lays in the way a person encounters the world. Many people think that objective numerical figures determine everything. However this is actually not the case.
Those who gain confidence only when they are fully embellished externally or when things work out smoothly, tend to be vulnerable more than anybody else. Because there are so many conditions that have to be met for bringing themselves out into the world, that are encountered with numerous obstacles in that process.
On the contrary, if you have the ability to open up yourself to the world with ease, that indicates that you have mental power.
Such individuals with inner confidence may not stand out at first glance, yet people tend to be drawn to those individuals and are persuaded by them. Even in moments of failure or uncertainty, they do not sway and are rather immersed with what they can do.
Most of those who conceal themselves with external factors- whether it be looks or wealth - tend to break down in these situations. Those who had approached these “flashy” people realize their true faces and start distancing themselves.
Which ones do you believe?
Conciousness does not identify to thought here either. It is lovely to hear Eckhart as his words are how life is experienced here as this. Its not special living as being, its only special to any idea of "me".
don't believe ALL of them !
I'm not a religious man but I read/listened to this man's books (Tolle) over and over (I couldn't stop) and IMO it significantly changed my life in a positive way.
I really like hearing that. Maybe I was too young or just not ready, because when I read them years ago I only understood them academically. I think I'm ready to try again, and make some real and meaningful transformation in my life. This interview was wonderful, and timely.
@Marcalo De Unnero Thank you for this, but no, I am not particularly Christian. I still celebrate Christmas, but don't believe any of it was meant to be taken literally. In my view Jesus was a deep and wise person who stumbled upon many of the truths that other deep and wise people end up stumbling onto, like Buddha, and in this case Tolle.

Me too!! Over 15 years ago, that book is like my Bible.
@@nikkishaye9385 How did it help you? I find it just intelligent info, but nothign revelatory to me. I have a broad and very appreciative relation with existence.
Bon Summers in a nutshell, I finally was able to see in my own experience, (instead of reading about other’s spiritual experiences and/or ideas which was an addiction at that time) that I truly wasn’t my mind, if you will. I was the witness all my thoughts, not in theory, but in actual experience. That just happened to be the book that created that full knowing in me.
Haider. I don't believe you. I think other things made your life better and you are reluctant to evaluate those truths because they might make you feel petty. I'm not saying you're in this position, but if I had a nickel for every person who takes 6 vacations a year and then tries to convince themselves that they're happier become of New Ageism I'd be able to afford one vacation a year.
*My* main takeaways from this video:
• No human being can manifest behaviour that is beyond their level of consciousness.
• "Forgive them for they know not what they do." - They are unconscious.
• Unconscious - you are at the mercy of the conditioning of your mind and your emotions.
• Don't make unconscious behaviour from the past into an identity for yourself or others.
• It is true unconscious people are not responsible for what they do, but they will have to suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness.
• Humans are meant to become more conscious. One of the ways an unconscious human being potentially evolves to be more conscious is by suffering the consequences of their unconsciousness.
Mention thank you
No. He's simply explaining the difference between your thoughts and your consciousness. If you have never practiced mindfulness, this might be a difficult concept to grasp. The majority of people have a constant stream of thoughts that stop them from existing in the present moment. This can have terrible consequences if the thoughts are of a negative nature; it is how anxiety disorders and depression come about. By learning how to stop these thoughts, you will be able to exist in the present moment. It's a calming, freeing and peaceful state of being.

I love this interview. Not just because what Tolle says is interesting, but because @daverubin handled it so beautifully, giving him room to roam and talk vs. just talking over him.
Tolle is a gifted teacher and the embodiment of his own teachings, a master of presence and wisdom fueled by fulfilling his life’s purpose.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Never heard of this guy so I almost didn't click. I'm glad I did. This is one of the best conversations on here. Thanks for the great content!
KevinOnTheDrums let’s communicate about this. I am a Bassist!!
He is the greatest heart to live on earth. All psychiatrists psychologists and all egoic minds shoild once take a session time with this great man. The world needs him
Look up his book The Power of Now. It’s available free audio on internet archive. If you’re suffering at all, this book can get you through any tough time.
Now you know your own consciousness is shared.
Wake up.
You must be very young. He’s been around for a long long time.
This guy is an absolute genius I wish more people tapped into they true self instead of just walking around on auto mode refusing all information that's not programmed great video
Agree!
You create yourself.
Money my friend- money makes people work night and day for a roof and food- wisdom Eckh said
He is so funny. “Everyone has time to take two conscious breaths. The mind may tell you “no I don’t have time”. But it’s a lie.” So true.
This man is a gem. I'm excited that you were able to get a second interview after this one. He espouses such simple life lessons and yet they're staggeringly complex to follow in this world of utter spiritual deprivation and distraction.
Most unexpected and welcome guest on this show. Amazing! Can we arrange for Jordan Peterson and Eckhart Tolle to have a conversation?
Jordan Peterson is overrated.
This concept of swinging between over and under corrections has been discussed by the Philosopher Hegel. Actually, Dave can re-examine his and the far right wing’s stances in this context. The truth is there are more people on the extreme right than there are on the extreme left. Progressives maybe in the far but not the extreme left but most of them don’t hold the extreme views on the whole SJW question.
Eckhart is insightful i had followed him for years. Isn’t it funny though how they acknowledged the yin and yang energies but mostly focused on criticizing the yin energy of the left and not the far crazier state of the yang energy on the right, which has been hijacked by the "leadership" of trump!
That would be a fantastic conversation.
Frank R ... Trump is not “far right”. Not even a little. And where is this presence of “extreme right” people that there are so many of?
Eckhart Tolle hit 60 and stopped aging lol. Awesome interview!
That's exactly what I was thinking!!
Yep he's 71 in this video. Shows what limited stress does to yourself
Whaaaaaat? He doesn’t even look 60 to me. 😳 I thought he was in his 50s.... he has such a young face. I’m seriously shocked that he is 71.
Check out his first interview in 1998 where he's 50 and looks about 27 😆
I’d say 50!
I just got out of prison I realise that I had no idea that I was imprisoned by the thoughts of my mind. I know realise I'm not who I thought I was and I take full responsibility for my behaviour that I once thought was justified
Thank u ruban for allowing him to talk. I learned so much.....
Excellent
I bet you can figure out how powerful this interview was when I tell you that I could pay rapt attention to every word that Tolle spoke without my mind wandering away. One solid hour and twenty minutes!
If a man can hold your attention for that long, he has to be out of this world!! Thank you Eckhart Tolle. Thank you so much.
And thanks to the interviewer who listened patiently and asked intelligent questions without interrupting any of what Tolle had to say. Thank you thank you thank you.
Cuando te invaden los pensamientos . Como callarlos ?
@@aliciamartinez3883Listen again - He says how, over & over.
I watched this interview and immediately went and bought The Power of Now
Good choice. The follow up "a new earth" is solid too
That is what tends to happen.
Good book
WERE YOU IN THE "PRESENT MOMENT" THOUGH?
your comment was 4 months ago, how did you like it? its very powerful.
I felt soooo bad--me me me --and after 10 years of feeling sooo bad-me me me --I gave up being so sad, gave up that sad ego, sad view on life ---then I saw the light and teach now people to dissociate themselves from part of their nature--and dance in the light--me me me soooo happy NOW !....
Thank you Rubin for letting Mr Tolle express himself freely, meaning without interrupting him every minute. It's not so common these days. It shows a deep respect. Thanks.
wow, love the yin and yang explained about balance and what is happening in the world right now. I truly see the importance of the balance, and not being ruled by the emotional mind, or egoic mind. And I also loved when Eckhart spoke of "No human being can manifest behavior that is beyond their level of consciousness' about 40mins in. Great understanding of self and others.
Lol, were you a xmas baby too?
@@realangiechrist Oh funny! You are referring to my name as yours is 'Christ' No, not a Christmas baby--but that makes more sense for my name!!
@@AngelicaChristi Mine's short for Angela Christine
when u read this comment...
take 1 conscious breath...
sky blue love this comment thank you!
Thanks
Thanks for the reminder. You could leave it all over the Internet and we’d all be doing better 😌
👌
Best comment ever
Eckert is the best tonic ever! I could listen to him for hours and learn something new each time. Thank you do much 😅
I can see why Eckhart wanted this interview. I’ve never seen Rubin before... but am so thankful this popped into my feed because you are both so consciously aware and that’s beneficial for all of us.... definitely gave me some good vibes to carry thru life. Thank you both for owning your gift and sharing with the world. 🙏💫
Hello Abby
How are you doing today?
The day Eckhart Tolle tells you he's "very impressed by you"...way to go, Dave! This conversation is such a lovely change of pace.
I once had a doctor prescribe one of his books! Lol.
Smart doctor!!
Hehe
Me too!!! Best med advice ever
I thoroughly believe this is the most message to humanity right now
This is one of the best One hour 20 minutes and 25 seconds for me.
The Power Of Now influenced me immensely when I read it 7 years ago. Particularly the part about how that negative voice in your head isn't me. I used to have terrible thoughts about people in my mind and feel like I was a terrible person for it. But once I realised that voice wasn't me and I stopped giving it power by associating it with my identity, it disappeared.
Rubin, I would love to see you do more videos like this that aren't so focused around politics. Your interviewing style and who you are brings out the best in people
The world desperately needs this kind of wisdom. It breaks my heart that this only has 18,079 views as of this comment. Keep it up Dave.
I can't believe we have access to talks like this for free nowadays. crazy! thanks for the great content
This is the first time I'm truly hearing Mr Eckhart. A combination of me being 'sick of hearing the voices in my head' and a perfect interview piece. So this is what it means to hold space.
Eckhart to the perfectly-timed rescue! I don’t think I’m alone with my subtle addiction to tech, and to the constant pull of outrage by the “other”. Read his books years ago, but wow it’s becoming all too easy to forget such wisdom. Thanks Dave!
We need to claim our consciousness. We have to take time to work on perfecting our lives, and that cannot be done with a constant flow of External stimulation.
"claim" "our" "consciousness?"
Careful about perfection Chip, that is also a state of trying to get somewhere, rather than being here and now. There is no where to go, because it's always here and now.
You can not claim. Through meditation you can eventually see how it works. That is called "insight". And then you'll know you don't have to change. Change follows at insight automaticly.
Essence of all spiritual books in one man's realisation. Thank you Eckhart Tolle.
Absolutely brilliant! There were literal shivers down my spine at so many moments during that interview. Thank you for bringing that to the world.
Its so nice to see an interviewer allow their guest to speak and encourage the best from them . Its an art and you are an artist.
Anything Eckhart is life changing. And props to Dave for being patient and open-minded and giving him the stage.
I discovered Eckhart while on a 7 day IFS therapy retreat at Kripalu. The New Earth. Early twenties, student loans floating me through, hours of meditation. Those are the foundational days of who i am now. I love you both, guys. Thank you!!
I found something similar happened to me . I was angry and reactive. Someone cut me up driving I was about to chase them. The light went on and I asked myself at that moment who am I and what do I want to be ?
An angry person or a happy person.
The answer was simple!
A happy person .
At the time there was much turmoil in my life and it wasn’t an instant transition but it was the start.
I became happier in my life and things slowly started to change for the better .
It’s the question you never thought of but when you ask it ,everything becomes apparent .
I feel this is what psychologists do get you to ask yourself the question that you need to ask yourself in a roundabout way.
He is one of your best guests/interviews. Great information, I will be getting audiobooks by Eckhart. Rubin Report variety is awesome.
Mr Eckhart, I can not thank you enough for helping me to just sit here and be conscious and quiet in this beautiful present moment. I feel so blessed to get started on my awakening. Thank you again so very much! I can’t stop smiling! You are a true gift! 🙏🏼❤️
Hello Debra
Merry Christmas
I watched this bc of seeing Eckart on Russell Brand and now I'm watching all of Eckhart. Wasn't sure how I felt about Dave Rubin, but I appreciate that he had Eckhart on and I see the good and open parts of him for sure.
That last question Rubin asked showed deep compassion 🥰
Damn, he reminds me of Carl Jung, not just the german, but the articulate explanation of the mystical mind and consciousness.
He is carrying the torch
Carl Jung was a complete fake and charlatan. He was a habitual liar, and was concerned only with his own success, his own recognition. He was the living embodiment of ego. Tolle should never be compared to Jung.
@@jamesaritchie1 Not entirely true
This must be the BEST hour and 20 min i have spent in a long time we need more people like Eckart in this word
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I brought "Power of Now" into my life on 9/12/2001 as a means to cope with
the reality of the previous day's event. Vascillated numerous times since then,
but he has remained one of my favorite spiritual teachers. Thank you David for
presenting him to your followers. Respect for you always. I also bought your
book ... lol.
Just finished reading A New Earth. It’s hands down one of the most life changing books I’ve ever read. Lots of great life lessons
I have it on Audible and listen to it every few months while relaxing or going to sleep. Peeaaceful 🙏
Thank you, Dave! This was just amazing. Exactly what I needed at this moment in time. Thank you, Eckhart.
kimbersha “moment in time” is redundant.
Shabbat Man did you miss the point of his lecture?
Same. This guy has been instrumental in me learning to notice when I'm 'all up in' in my head, and drop into my heart (awareness of the now).
Presidents should have Eckhart Tolle on their staff.
Yes!!
Yeah would make hilariously helpful cabinet member
This is how I feel when I ride my horse on the forest. I have had her for 21yrs since she was born and we are in sync. It is the most real thing in my life
Rubin such a G R E A T intervierer you are - actually listening - helping us to listen deeply and as a result open to the present moment - what a gift.
I'm so glad I've discovered Eckhart Tolle. Just today in fact. I've spent my whole life being controlled by strong emotions, obsessive and anxious thoughts, day in and day out...I literally didn't know that maybe I had a choice, that maybe there were other ways to be. I just assumed that I am a hypersensitive person with OCD and I'll just have to deal. Not ready to throw out my antidepressants yet, but to know that maybe I have the power within myself to frame it differently is incredibly liberating and calming.
Eckhart, I am so grateful for your teachings. Thank you!
Thank you endlessly Eckhart Tolle for teaching the world, You are among the greatest teachers, love from Mauritius.
OMG.....The power of this is truly astonishing to me. I sit here in tears halfway through the video just simply stunned. I had to stop it and write this down to remember and reflect on what I just heard. I live as a pessimistic, angry, and anxious person all day. My mind races from thought to thought completely controlled from my past experiences. This has defined me to this point. I didn't even realize or know why I felt like I do about so many things, I just accepted it as being uniquely "just me".
There is hope for happiness beyond just " acquiring stuff" or accomplishments in life like a carved hash mark for the record.
To be able to "just be happy" and undo the burden of the negativity that predominately runs my life would be such a relief.
To see that there is another way and possibly a way to do it. Thank You Dave for bringing these things to people that other wise might never have a chance. I am forever grateful.
So happy to hear this was helpful to you! The power of spiritual awareness/ consciousness is a treasure which many are not aware of or don't know how to access which is a shame. I would urge to read his book, 'The Power of Now' or listen to the audiobook - it is extremely powerful and has helped me beyond words
