Chant the Scriptures as the Ancients Did!

- Using a common scale from the semitic musical tradition(the freygish or dominant phrygian scale), I offer a brief tutorial on how to chant the Liturgy of the Hours as the Levites did in the Jerusalem Temple as well as how they still chant( cantillation) the scriptures in synagogue services today! The overtly Jewish sound evokes images of our Lord as He Himself would have chanted the Scriptures while incarnate on Earth. Come, Holy Spirit!
Thank you, I hope you are better now in your life, especially in these darkest of times. With love from England.x
Thanks. Praying the Psalms helps a lot.
I wish there was a Byzantine Catholic church in my city. Been to the liturgy a few times and love the chanting.
The Lord has blessed you with a beautiful voice ! I found listening to the chant very calming God bless🇬🇧
Thank you for all of your videos! Especially your interest in chanting scripture. The modern roman church has no idea the beauty that we've lost. Keep up the great content!
It is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
There is so much I don't know. You are teaching us a lot, and you have a very good voice. Praise God!
Thank you ❤
Very nice!!! I found this very interesting. I am a retired professional cathedral choirmaster and organist, professor, composer and violist.
Andrew Loyd Weber used this scale in JC Superstar
I love the liturgy of the hours and I'm not even catholic. however, I love the prayers. I just bought a chromatic harmonica and have been wondering how the psalms would have sounded on it. Thanks for this video. Could you post the scales that your using? If you could find the musical notes?
Ok. Will do. Thanks for watching.
Hello here is scale I used in this video: ua-cam.com/video/aCZezZf9bi0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@WatchersfortheSonofMan Thank you so much.
That's the coolest! Thank you for writing this tone for us :)
Very beautiful! I have a request. You should do a video with just the Psalms. Pick a few and just chant them. Very, very nice. I love this.
The notes you play in the beginning are the same as the "Mayamalavagowla ragam", which is a scale of notes in the carnatic indian classical music.
I had no idea scripture was once chanted throughout the congregation and that Christianity is a harmonized faith. It's such a beautiful thing that's been lost in the modern world. So beautiful
The word WORSHIP literally means TO BOW and I agree with you that the ROMANS need to return to the bows and reverence at liturgy. I also love the Coptic liturgy and also enjoy watching their posted videos in English. I love your icon of Christ the Pantokrater. And, along with the other poster, I agree with her that you have a beautiful voice. Would you consider posting a video of an entire Psalter service so that we can practice your chant modes, rather than my unitone, or two tones that I still remember. Thank you, this is helpful.
@Nathan Wilson From the ORTHODOX STUDY BIBLE!
thank you so much for this! its too bad that our religious tradition lost this style of recitation, chanting of the scriptures is one thing that draws me to eastern religions.
A PS: I wish that we Romans would also return the practice of chanting the READINGS.
In my parish the priest in high Mass on Sunday chants the Gospel.
He who sings worships twice
aaaah - meen
beautiful!!!
How do you correlate the words to the scale. That's what I've wondered.
@@WatchersfortheSonofMan Let me be more specific. Am I just repeating the scale over and over until the reading is done?
