The way I interpret the MV is related to a line in AGUST D's The Last "And Min Yoongi is already dead, I killed him", this is AGUST D talking, because to get through the hardships and use them to fire the greed he used as a weapon to get to the point he is today he had to create a persona that could take it and shrug everything off (AGUST D), and this MV is Min Yoongi taking back control, this is him saying he doesn't need the persona anymore, and showing he is the rightful king, because Yoongi has something AGUST D (blonde) doesn't: an imperial jade charm with (i think it is) a dragon or a tiger engraving, which symbolized royalty at the time. Yoongi plans the coup with the butchers at the market (who are also the guys beheading people), that's why they give him the gun. Also a cool paralel, Yoongi has the support of the people the whole video, while AGUST D is constantly alone in his palace, showing how it is Yoongi people love and support (genuine admiration for him), and not his persona.

Daechwita is korean traditional military music, played by woodwind instruments and drums, used to either signify the entrance of the king or as the marching song whenever the military was going into battle.
It was also used whenever dignified guests visited the palace.

I mean, the very first video on BangtanTV is RMs rap cover of Kanye's (?) song about voting. Even their pre-debut songs/raps were amazeballs.
Those hats were actually really important back in the day because they prevented ppl from getting tanned. This was especially important back in ancient Asia because one’s class could often be symbolized by the color of your skin.
If you were fair skinned that was often a symbol of being financially wealthy, and not having to work in the sun out in the fields. Those who were tanned and of darker skin completions were usually poor people who had to work in fields all day (thus getting tanned).

Those specific hats were indeed worn primarily as protection from the sun and rain. In terms of East Asian countries it was worn by both farmers and nobles men in China and Japan (usually as a sign of Buddhism), but in south East Asian countries it was usually farmers who wore them.
But yeah, bc Korea was colonized by these other East Asian countries there were periods where they were worn there, but it never became a staple among the citizens. Definitely not as much as the hats worn in the Joseon dynasty that protected the hair of the noble men.
Of the noble who wore them, they would add various gems and presidium stones into them, and we Louis often pass them down generation to generation. Bc of the material they were made in, they could also be dunked in water and worn wet as a means to cool the wearer without getting them wet.

BTS has the best rapline in the Kpop industry (namjoon also known as RM, yoongi known as suga, and hoseok known as j-hope), 2 of them were underground rappers and hoseok taught himself while already growing up as a hip-hop dancer, they're all very educated about rap and are very influenced and inspired by the old hip-hop generations. So if you didn't see this side of them it's mainly because you never reacted to the rapline mixtapes. I would suggest watching Agust d's mixtape, RM, and hope world. The 3 of them have different types so it's interesting to see their different perspectives. Also the rapline have their own tracks, like Ddaeng, outro tear, cyphers..all of these show the different side that Efra was talking about. Same goes for the vocal line (jungkook, taehyung, jimin and jin) they have their own tracks tol that showcase their vocal abilities and solo songs.

@@breea3426 yeah they always try to find a balance in title tracks, but the good thing is in every album, there are at least 2 tracks, one for the rapline and another for the vocal line besides the solos of each member. And yes BTS rapline is inarguably the best.
Others can talk about tecnic, about flow, about lyrics and rhymes, about fast rap, about talent, but tge BTS RAP LINE have the whole package!

Daechwita is a Korean style of music used by the army when marching into war or used in a kingly procession. His old self and current self fight for dominance. In his previous mixtape he makes reference or alludes to how Suga (stage name in BTS) killed Min Yoongi (his birth name) and now in this mv and song through Agust D (where he is able to express his raw self) manages to kill off the king. Suga actually descends from royalty (the last empress of the country if I’m correct).
Fun facts: long hair was indicative of status and wealth at the time

Individuals with scars could never become king or queen but here we have Agust D going against the stereotype with a massive visible scar which shows how powerful he is.

The boys have different sides to them. They are never not themselves, but they have different personas. For Suga, theres well, Suga of BTS. Min Yoongi, his real identity which we sometime see during live broadcasts and when interacting with other band members. Then there’s Agust D. I was looking fwd to ur reaction to this because I know you had never seen this side of BTS. RM’s second mixtape Mono, will definitely surprise you too. Another side of BTS, is their dorky side. When they’re together, travelling or playing games, you will never guess that they are the biggest band in the world. Granted that they’re very wholesome, but through their individual work you can see that they are no pushovers.

Those straw hats are used mostly to shade from the sun. You can especially see farmers (like rice farmers) wearing hats like that to help protect them from the sun and they're still pretty breathable so you stay cool 😌.

Dwaechata is an old korean genre of music it has something to do with their ancient Kings music
Daechwita is a traditional Korean music style, played when the army is marching to war or when the king lives his palace to walks among people something simular a parade.
The one he's wearing is actually a traditional clothing that only kings could wear. You see like traditionally asians grow hair of and take care of it which shows rank on society. Also, there was a king way back in Korea known as King Gwangjong he also has a scar. This king is actually remembered by his renowned for ruthlessness and bravery and killing a lot of people and some call him "the mad King" but he breaks all the stereotypes of what kings would be. A very historical and respected character from the Hangul culture.
Fun fact: some theorys about Agust D killing himself at the end could be a reference from the old mixtape Agust D because there's a track call The Last he said "Min Yoongi is dead. I killed him". But this time he killed Agust D (the king) because he doesn't need a persona, like a mask to pretend that he's a celebrity anymore, because the little poor boy that he was just grew up and made it so now, Agust D, Suga and Min Yoongi are the same person.

Another fun fact: Yoongi is actually from a royal bloodline. He's a far relative of a Korean empress. He's from the Yeoheung Min clan. Also , Jin and V are also from royal bloodline. There is a song called "Tony Montana" on August D's first mixtape track 8. He is a character in the movie "Scarface," chasing only money and ruining his eyes. "Daegita" is interpreted as an autobiographical story that follows "Tony Montana" four years ago, and the blonde suga looks like a king, but has no real king's clothes and locks. In addition, the song was likened to the unfinished King Gwanghaegun because of tyranny. The black-haired suga, on the other hand, is modestly dressed, but she says she is the king and has the royal lock and chaki. On the frame of the background, there is a kanji written below "bulbogeumok". This means "don't be a slave to money." The last black-haired suga seems to be telling her story about not to be a monster that chases money by sniping a blonde suga.
Daechwita is basically music that plays for the korean royalty or military
The crazy thing is that new BTS fans will think this kinda song is surprising, but honestly it is nothing new. BTS (even since pre-debut) haven't changed in their amazing songwriting, production, and performing skills. BTS have stated that they make music that they want to create, they don't do this stuff to gain fans or people please. If you listen to more of their discography including their solo stuff, you will be exposed to more of this side to them. Their versatility is SPECTACULAR.
I remember Twitter when D-2 dropped 😭you had locals asking who Yoongi was and or saying they knew who BTS was and didn't expect this from one of the rappers it was alot and it was funny to watch as a Army 😂

What you guys are talking about, the generating new fans? That's exactly what happened to me with the first Agust D album. I already followed a lot of reactors and some of them were reacting to this mysterious "agust d" person and i eventually figured out he was a member of that group BTS. I had seen their videos, but have NO IDEA they could rap like this. Then I found out about the cyphers and the rest is history.
2:33 ... The hat is generically called "Asian conical hat". It's been around for at least 3000 years. And because of that length of time, it is very common & still in use today in many parts of Asia. Imho, here Yoongi is using it in 3 ways. First, it's for historical purposes, since this MV is sort of a period piece. Second, for looks, because for some people, it is cool & reminds them of these hats seen in Anime, video games & movies. Third, this style of hat hides his face, so it makes him look mysterious & because this is a comeback for Agust D, it gives a dramatic effect once he looks up & you finally see his face, black hair & eye scar. It's the same in other shows where a mysterious stranger is in view, his face shrouded in shadow under the brim of his hat, until he finally looks up & you see who it is.
It is odd, but there have been a few more reactors to this MV where they were also reacting to the hat & so I had to comment.

It always seems so funny to me when people get surprised at Suga swearing...if you look at BTS b sides they have always sworn. Yes Suga and the rappers the most and they do it less now because they are more aware of young fans...but literally since their first album they use curse words, both Korean and English, in their songs. ARMY used to make compilations of every time they snuck curse words through Korean broadcasting. Usually English words in the backing tracks of their songs that don’t register as loud enough to get blocked 😂
Now sometimes the studio versions of their songs don’t have swearing but it will when they perform live.
They’re pretty careful on camera and when they slip it usually gets bleeped out for them. Whenever they’re on live it’s hilarious though because say a new member walks in not knowing they always have to warn him “hey don’t swear” Usually JHOPE does the warning, but he’s also the one who ALMOST slips the most😂 When he put out his own mixtape it had no swearing, but the line “yeah my mouth is my problem, but not (swearing) in my music”

For anyone who doesn’t know him, he is SUGA south korean lead rapper of BTS a globally famous male kpop group, this is his solo alter-ego which is straight raw K-HipHop/Rap even though BTS members are present (Hiding In Plain Sight Lol) It isn’t a kpop song. It’s self-produced solo mixtape, if you haven’t seen his first one; Its 2016 ‘AGUSTD’ mixtape.

I don’t know about anyone else but I was holding my breathe the whole time seeing him getting up from the throne walking into the palace, bodies on the ground, 😳 JINKOOK FIGHTING IN BACKGROUND, ALL OF BTS PRESENT, brings a modern car into traditional dynasty while battling his inner-self then goes into nasty slow flow rap like RM did in DDAENG while tied up & blindfolded - I literally on the edge of my seat when he being taken what looked like he was going to be beheaded and AGUSTD is showing off his sword skills then Suga bomb takes the gun and turns around kills the evil side of himself like a boss 😎 I noticed he used some beats and allot of phrases that he did in his BTS comeback interlude: SHADOW. The more I watch, it keeps me remembering how he loves scarface and reminds me abit of scar from lion king with traditional mortal kombat vibes. THE BLACK FIGURES BEHIND SUGA PRESENT US THE BTS ARMY, HE BASICALLY SAYING GOODBYE TO HIS PAST BECAUSE HES READY TO MOVE ON TO A NEW CHAPTER OF HIS LIFE *Daechwita is a korean form of marching music that old armies used as they marched into battle or kingly procession; his old & current self fighting for domination. During his first mixtape he makes many references on how SUGA (stage name) kills Min Yoongi which is his true identity. Now, Agust D the raw savage side kills off the king and SUGA sits down from royalty (if i’m not mistaken, last emperor of the country). The concept/theme is a traditional dynasty where the long hair is indication of wealth and Agust D shown dressed in authentic kingly garments, It was also strongly frowned upon or forbidden anyone with scars could never be royalty but with track & music video AgustD/Suga breaks that stereotype by having a large visible scar down across his eye which expresses even people with scars can be royal on top of showing how powerful his presence is. According to some of the things I read about the video, it's based somewhat on a historical figure in Korean history (which has its parallels in most cultures in history) who was genocidal and set rigid rules. I've watched your previous reaction with bts and I remember you said their message is different and we don't usually hear rappers rapping about self-love and all but bts rappers do. I'd like to introduce you to this side of them, they usually released solo mixtapes for free. These mixtapes are all self-produced albums where they are freer to express their own musical style. No limits. No filters. They write their own lyrics, make their own beats, compose, produce everything is made by themselves. As to why Suga used another name for his mixtapes because it's like another persona of him far from Suga of BTS and far from Min Yoongi as a person. He mentioned that he does diss tracks to boost his confidence and not to attack anyone hence why he doesn't specifically name any person but if the shoe fits it's not his problem anymore.

Agust D have always talked this way. Because he went so hard in his first mixtape, I actually expected him to have mellowed down like how RM changed his vibes with Mono. But nope, Agust D have more to say 😅 BTS have always known that are good. Their early releases like We Are Bulletproof and Attack on Bangtan have proven that. I love that they find a way to brag about their group in their songs and they do it so creatively like in Airplane pt. 2 and Ddaeng.
