What Yoongi wanted to represent in this video is his past, because he was born into a very poor family, he had to earn his own money and he barely had enough for bread.
Also, many phrases towards Korean rappers who made fun of him for being an idol are represented by "stories" of Korean culture.
Let's say you can see two totally different characters, a prince and a countryman, well, what Agust D wants to represent with these two characters is an internal struggle between his most vain "me" and his most humble "me", that's why the end ends up killing the prince, because he only wants to keep his most modest version.
Sorry if it is not understood, I don't speak English hahaha.

This video was Suga's idea, as every professional who respects himself was aware of every detail, meeting with the production team, he even learned the sword dance in just 2 days. To top it all, Suga is a descendant of the famous and important Min clan or better known as Yeoheung Min who belongs to the Joseon dynasty and one of the Empresses of this family is Myeongseong. The Yeoheung Min were rulers in 242 senior positions within the royal court and 4 queens were also in power. Suga aka Agust D is a well known producer and songwriter in south korea, he even won a award. Suga released their second mixtape 'D-2' and his songs quickly positioned in the most important places of music charts worldwide. Suga has become the first South Korean solo artist to enter both the Billboard album and single charts at the same time, following the release of the "mixtape" "D-2" with his title track "Daechwita" Inspired by traditional Korean music used for the military march and royal parade, "Daechwita" combines the sound of traditional Korean wind and percussion instruments with the hiphop musical sub-genre "trap". Agust D 2, Suga's second mixtape has received a lot of support from fans and his music has positioned himself in the best places on the music charts, breaking several records. Suga's second solo record material, 'D-2' is in seventh place on the official album chart in the UK, the country's music list is considered one of the most important in the world. Suga has become the first South Korean soloist to have record material on the UK music chart and place his work in such an important position on the chart. Suga is one of the most influential Korean producers and musicians in the music industry. entertainment, thanks to the talent of the rapper from the company Big Hit, many artists seek to collaborate with him.

You mentioned that "one of the most admired Empresses of this family is Myeongseong", which is not true. Empress Myeongseong(Queen Min) was one of those who caused a lot of chaos and miseries to Korea bringing Russia and China and making the country as a playground for power games. She had her family members in the government and they abused their power and made the political and social systems even more corrupted than ever. Unfortunately, her images and personality got mispresented by media. Of course it is very sad and a big shame to Koreans that she was murdered by Japanese soldiers in her palace, which should've not happened regardless.

    • @mkim3705
      @mkim3705 3 роки тому +10

@@sarak5326 This is quite accurate, though personally I think that there are so many others else from the queen who contributed to the chaos at the end of the dynasty. Notoriously the Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and so many other colonial powers interfered in the fate of the late Joseon dynasty through numerous domestic political figures..
Also, I want to give a head up about Suga's family name. Based on family traditions, some took their family line very seriously in Korea, but a lot of ppl also do not. Not everyone in Korea had family names back in the history similar many other places around the world. It was around late 19th century when the vast majority of the people had surnames, and throughout this transition, some ppl just took the surname popular in their region or of their masters. Whether Suga is truly a descendent of the Yeoheung Min family is something that he only knows (or even he might not, depending on his family's tradition!) -- and the point is, no one really cares about your true blood line in Korea >

Agust D/SUGA is ranked as one of the most influential producers and songwriters in South Korea, who won multiple awards over the past few years, including best producer. He debuted at #9 on Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. He became the first male soloist in history to have a song and album reach No.1 on iTunes in 100 countries each. He is ranked Billboard's Top solo Korean Album Artist of 2020. His mixtape "D-2" debuted at #11 on Billboard 200. And there is just a few of his achievements.
He has two self-produced mixtapes: "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020), which broke several records on music charts worldwide. He uses his platform to talk about important topics and most of his lyrics touch such subjects as mental health, social issues, the contrast between dreams and reality, etc.
To put this simply, in this MV king is his past self. The other one is his present self. So he shot his past self. "Daechwita" is a genre of Korean traditional military music, which was played to announce the arrival of king.
He also produces/writes a lot of songs for BTS as well as for other top artists.
I recommend you to check out

I really like Yoongi. As a Korean, I am so proud of Yoongi, and he is handsome, cute, cool, handsome and handsome. For that reason, I am writing it to help foreigners who are BTS fans like me.
First of all, Daechwita was played by the king during the Joseon Dynasty. In fact, if you visit various palaces in Seoul, Korea, you can see them changing the display by playing them.
The loud sound at the beginning of the first song is a traditional Korean instrument called "Taepyeongso." It is divided into brass instruments. The sound is very loud. Also, the sound Suga makes when he walks in the market is a traditional Korean instrument called 'kkwaenggwari'. The metal is tapped into a bowl, separated into percussion instruments.
In the middle, "Gwanghae" is a king of the Joseon Dynasty, and one of the officials and royalty drove out Gwanghae (Injo Banjeong) and Gwanghae was the king who regained the foundation of Joseon after the war (Japan's war/Imjin War). He led the war on his feet from the crown prince's time, and took care of the people unlike the king who ran away. However, he was envied by the king, and he almost failed to ascend the throne, but he died. After he ascended the throne, he was criticized by officials for being politically brilliant but inconsistent with Confucian ideas, and had to grovel to his stepmother a few years younger than him as a mother, and killed or exiled the prince for fear of losing the throne. Eventually, in the name of such an event, officials ousted one of the royal family members as king and drove out Gwanghae. Gwanghae did a really good job, and he has a lot of achievements, but he is still a tyrant. He's actually a great man as a king. He did wrong things such as killing his family, but his command was the king.
Also, kings in the Joseon Dynasty could not ascend the throne if they had scars. We all need to think about why Yoongi has a scar on his eye in this video.
Also, the sword in the music video is a perfect Korean traditional sword. Many people may think of it as Japan, but it is a traditional Korean sword called 'Hwando. The history of "Hwando" can go up to the Goryeo Dynasty, and the king's order to make it is contained in a history book called "Hwando Temple." It would be different from what is actually on the record when it started to be used. From now on, I want to explain the difference with Japan. First of all, Japan is longer than the penis. Korea had to be comfortable and light to carry around the black in Korea because the bow was more important than the sword (Koreans were a people who shot arrows while riding horses). The bow was more advanced than the sword. In particular, the bow is the best in the world.) And it's different from wearing it. Korea wears a sword in a way called 'tidon-maegi'. The name 'Hwando' comes from the fact that it has a ring. "Tidonmaegi" is a method of hanging a string around the ring in the sword collection of Hwan-do and hanging it around the waist. So when you kick a sword in this way, the sword handle goes behind your back, and the tip of the sword goes to the tip of your toes. It's convenient to ride a horse, and it's comfortable because it's not exactly fixed to your body in your daily life. Also, it does not interfere with bows and arrows. However, Japan uses a method of attaching a sword to its belt. Because I fought while running. Also, the representative cross-section of Hwan-do is a pentagon, traditionally called Bae Hyeong-do. In comparison, the cross section of Japan is hexagonal. A Korean sword is a single-handed sword, and a Japanese sword is a two-handed sword.
I was really excited when this music video was released. It is also exciting to hear Yoongi's new song, especially when he said he would show Korean traditional beauty to foreigners. And I was very thankful to Yoongi. Yoongi and BTS are Korean treasures. Thank you so much and I love you.

Yoongi came from one of the poorest parts of south Korea. He was told by the korean music industry that he would amount to nothing, his parents also didn't support him in his presuit of music. Their entertainment label was close to bankruptcy and didn't have the clout (can't
think of a better word atm) or fianncial backing to propperly suport them. When BTS started to get big other labels tried to buy them and Bang PD their CEO said no, he wouldn't sell them. From the very begining Bang PD beleived they could achieve great things. "Band PD laughing all the way to the bank" Yoongi and BTS literally knocked the music industry on its ass. "Born a slave rise up a dragon."
As for him taking shots its just in general. Despite Yoongi's battle with his mental health and the horrific way he was treated by the music industry and people in general, he's never resorted to popping pills or alcohol to help deal with his problems. He actively urges people to seek help if they need it, it doesn't make you a lesser person. He's just taking shots and the industry in general and that it tends to destroy peoples mental health.
The two Yoongi's at the end represent two different aspects of himself. The one that is power and money hungry and the part of him that never wants to be that. Thus shooting the part of himself that he never wants to become. It can also be interpreted as him dethroning the current music industry and turning it on it's head. He refused to bow to the establishment and succeeded by working hard and staying true to who he is. I highly recommend checking out his solo song from Map of The Soul 7 called Interlude: Shadow as it also talks about his relationship with the music industry.
As for the Korean stuff I don't feel qualified to talk about that. I'll let someone else explain that as I don't feel informed enough to explain that.
Great video, you actually understand alot of it. I'll be checking out more of your videos.

The part where he starts rapping fast with the blind fold on hits a bit harder. He says something similar in his song called Interlude: Shadow. He talks about being up so high (fame) that it's scary due to the pressure and sometimes he thinks about being on the ground as a relief of all of that weight on his shoulders. I think it's really interesting to hear it from his point of view. He got everything he wanted but it's a blocking point. Where do I go from now? What more should I do even though I'm up so high? Lyrics like these make me love Suga as a rapper and a lyricist even more.

yeahhhh sometimes a little TOO accurate.... like you could most definitely hit your target a decent amount of times using analysis and educated guessing, but it's like... EVERY SINGLE one of his guesses is SPOT ON.... like when he did the reaction on "UGH", and he's talking about how BTS has gotten hate and starts talking about how the song COULD BE about people sitting on their pedestals and judging from the moral high ground.... well the hate BTS got coming up, or even any of the hate they get now REALLY isn't about people judging their morals and shit, and saying that they should be cancelled and shit.. people just love to hate on bts for no reason really. like the hate they got coming up was basically just telling them they suck and will never make it and what not.. PLUSSSS, i mean, before he pauses the video and starts talking about the whole moral high ground etc, you can literally see in the lyrics that J-Hope literally SAYS people judging from their moral high ground, and then he pauses the video and goes back.... I DUNNOOOOOOOOOOOO MAN it's just a lil sus ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just in case you are interested, the lines where Suga says "I'm not a weak pill popper like you" sound exactly same as "I'm not a weakling like you" when spoken in Korean.
It's like when you use the word "knight(or night)" in English lyric and make it have meaning whichever way you interpret it.
The line goes "I was born a tiger, I ain't no weak pill popper like you" so people reading the lyric will know about "pill-popping" thing, but people without knowledge of Suga could interpret it as just "a weakling." I guess it is his hidden message to those who pop pills "to get inspiration because they are artist.'
From what I've heard, Suga (and also RM) caught a lot of hatred when they "abandoned" the underground rapper society by "taking an easy idol route rather than staying as artists."

Daechwita is a representation of Suga’s constant battle against himself and how the desire to achieve his dreams have given him the courage to do everything to achieve being on top, however, the emptiness he feels when he now has everything he wants. He wanted and more continues to torment him, as he has expressed in other hits like BTS ” Interlude: Shadow ‘. Daechwita gives a powerful message about being proud of our roots, of being able to become what we most want despite adversity. At the same time, the dark side of power is also made clear, where having what we most wanted is sometimes not enough.

Yoongi said that if you get offended the is your problem, but tbh the lyrics made me remember some guys that talked crap about them (BTS) when they were just debuting, so a little context, BTS's foundation is focused on a heavy hip hop, rap genre, they started denominating themselves as a hip-hop group and then evolved into the amazing mixture of genres they're now, in their debut time some guys talked crap about them saying that hip-hop is not made by guys using makeup and dancing, which is a characteristic of the k-pop industry, making them feel bad about it and taking out the credit of their effort and the great talent they have (almost all of BTS'S songs are composed and written by them, and No More Dream, their debut track, is not the exception) also their company was really close to bankrupt, and they were small, which is a factor in the industry. Now about the song, I firmly believe that he is using the king and the slave as a representation of himself, the first one as the "could be current himself", the one with the fame and the power that could be mean and not humble, that could be corrupted, and the slave as the old himself, the one who's trying to stay true to his roots, and keep himself humble, knowing that he started from the bottom and he rose up with effort and passion, Yoongi wasn't rich or smth when he was young, he has mentioned that his family had economic problems and sometimes he could not even have a Christmas gift, so I feel is somehow the struggle that being famous can make you go through, how it can make you mean and cold, but he is also embracing the high he has gone because he knows it didn't come out from nowhere and he is also using it to say to the haters and people who told him he was not going to make it, that he did, and he's higher and better cause he is true to himself and he got the victory for who he is, being humble, and true to himself.

As a Korean, the whole clan stuff is bs imo, every Korean is part of a clan nowadays, but until ~100 years ago, only the noble class had surnames. Then after WW2, every Korean registered a surname. Prestigious clans like the Gimhae Kim clan have millions of members these days. Every Korean claims to be descended from royalty, when they were like 1% of the population, something doesn't add up. It's just logical that the majority of Koreans aren't actually blood descendants of the clans they believe they're descended from, many just added their names to the registry of powerful clans a few decades ago. The only way you can be 100% sure that you're actually from your clan is if your clan is very small imo. The Yeoheung Min clan is the biggest Min clan with 160k members. Usually the "real" descendants of the powerful clans and of royalty are now chaebol families, since they inherited a lot of wealth. Suga comes from a poor background, so imo it's not very likely that his ancestors were from the noble class.

I know a lot of folks told you the lyrics from Suga's history and perspective but the song is literally a homage to his Korean roots and Korean culture. The song's title literally cannot be translated into another language, it's that Korean. It's very cool how you got the military vibe off the bat. A testament to your open-mindedness and love of music to be able to catch cross-cultural aspects. I have a IB degree and I even struggle in this sometimes. Anyway...
Gwanghae was literally a Korean emperor who went "berserk". I would say that Suga's references and how they intertwine with Korean history, his personal history, and the state of his & BTS's music is literally genius. There are even South Korean history teachers who have watched this MV and worked hard to catch and explain all the nuances in these lyrics...but my fav section of this song is his lower timbre in the prison at night. The metaphoric self examining depth he goes to at that moment in time grabs you as you realize he is both egotistical and humble all at the same time. Ego in that he has the confidence to take risks and put himself out there, and humble in that he realizes what is and isn't important to the meaning of life... and the appreciation of saying he can conqueror the world of music while still staying true to his roots, and Korean heritage. Put it like this... when American musicians go to other nations to give concerts there is never a question of whether they well meddle or change to fit that's nation's culture, language, or environment and still be successful and sell, while the expectation for BTS in America is the opposite... BTS is trying to break all these molds of what is and isn't the CENTER of the universe. lol.

i’ve been waiting so long for you to check this out. our yoongi (suga/agust d) is a genius. as you know that yoongi writes his own music as well as produces his own music but he also came up with the music video concept himself.
i thought i would share some of my thoughts on the music video as it can be a little hard to decipher on the first time watching as well as without both historical and personal (yoongi’s) context.
first off, daechwita is a genre of traditional korean music consisting of wind and percussion instruments. it was usually played to greet a king or in a marching band with the king’s presence. the mv is depicting the character of gwanghaegun of joseon by yoongi (agust d) who also plays the character of the rebel boy.
yoongi (the real name of agust d) plays two characters (the king and the humble boy who basically represents ordinary korean people (in the joseon era but obv there is modern elements to his surrounding and props (the car)). the scar on his face is a reference of how in south korea at the time (joseon dynasty) the king cannot have scars on his skin because he’s not considered to be fit to be a king. this king does. also, the king has long hair and this could be showing how much time has passed since we saw agust d (he hadn’t made solo music for a while). it also shows that he’s not really following king protocol. he’s gone a bit mad because kings had neat hair in a bun and he just doesn’t seem to care towards the end.
the scene in the king’s court we see people gathered around and bowing to the ground. this cruel king even stands on top of someone’s back - disrespect towards someone who is bowing to you in submission.
so anyway the king saw this humble boy who keeps challenging him and wants to use his power to behead him as that is what usually happens.
yoongi in real life has suffered from anxiety and depression and has had suicidal thoughts at a young age. he came from a poor family and had to choose between food and taking the bus to school. he’s also had a near-death experience on a motor cycle.
gwanghae the king was not supposed to succeed the throne because his mother was a concubine - representing yoongi’s own journey with the odds stacked against him and his background.
the lyrics “born a slave but now a king... born in a ditch but rise up like a dragon” - emphasising the struggles to get to where he is.
the video shows the boy being captured by the king’s people and is ready to have his head cut off. but we see him making an exchange with the butcher (at the start of the video) and he then spares him and yoongi kills the king version of himself.
also back to the scar because i thought the attention to detail was really interesting. obv you weren’t allowed to be king with scars and yoongi got to be king with his. the king’s scar was fresh and the rebel boy’s was scabbing. as in the rebel has already seen his hardships and is more wise. whereas for the king it is all still new and fresh and he has a lot to learn hence why he’s still greedy etc. and was able to be defeated like that.
i know i’ve missed a lot because there’s a lot more going on but this is what i understood from the music video.

The whole scars preventing one's claim to the throne was from kdrama plots, I believe. At least, others, including a professor from Baewooda Corée_Learn Korea's channel, have stated they haven't seen anything about this being a rule in actual Korean history.
I'm doubtful it is a rule though bc scars would be pretty easy to obtain during that time, especially from diseases like smallpox, which a big problem back then. And princes did lead wars too (including the king mentioned in the MV, who fought against invaders and took the throne from the prior king, who fled). Plus, there'd be way less assassinations going on than there was if one could take out another's claim to the throne by just a scar.
And there are portraits you can see of Joseon Dynasty kings today with blemishes on their faces (it was an art style to depict subjects exactly as they were in portraits in the Joseon Dynasty--but only high gov officials and kings could have portraits done). You can check out more about it from Prf. Lee Sung-nack's book, Joseon Dynasty Portraits: Expression of Scholar Spirits.

the "shove my past into a rice chest" is actually one of my favorite lines in the song because its so overlooked. if u look to the sides of the pathway at Dae Jang Geum Park (the historical korean building) at the beginning of the video there are a bunch of cloths covering bodies and rice chests next to them. the rice chests are actually holding their heads and you can see that again once rebel yoongi comes in the car because there are a bunch of heads hanging from the balcony and rice chests right behind king yoongi. personally, i think he's saying he buries away all his obstacles to get to the top in the beginning of the video, but then rebel yoongi gets captured and starts talking about how now that he's been at the top and he's seen the person it made him, he's ready to live with his feet on the ground and remember all the struggles that shaped him as a person. that's why he kills the alter ego, because it's the side of himself he doesn't like.

Hey I can give a short explanation for the Korean historical references in Daechwita! (Actually, there might not be as many as you have expected. There are only two that you really need to know)
As many already commented, Daechwita (대취타) is a royal military music during the Joseon dynasty, usually played when the king is marching. Yes, we are going back to the "Joseon Dynasty", the latest kingdom of Korea that lasted around 500 years before the colonization of Japan in 1910. Most historical references in this lyrics comes from the middle to late Joseon Dynasty, which is around the 17th and 18th century. And interestingly, both are about the crown princes who ended up facing a tragic destiny.
Remember the line, "미쳐버린 범 광해 Berserk tiger Gwanghae Flow"? 5:34 Prince Gwanghae is a name of the 15th king, who was abdicated by a coup during his regime. (we called him a prince because he was dethroned) Joseon was a patriarchal society, which means that the throne was handed down from the king to the eldest son. There is one addition condition though -- the son born between the king and queen, not from the concubines, gets the priority. Believe or not, Prince Gwanghae was the second eldest son of the king, born under a concubine. Yet, he became the crown prince because the king did not have any son with the queen, and Joseon was fighting one of the biggest wars in its history. Japan invaded Joseon in 1592, and this big war continued for seven years!! The king could not wait for the queen to bear another son, so he chose Prince Gwanghae (instead of the eldest because there was a general consensus that he wasn't qualified enough)
Prince Gwanghae overall did a great job as a crown prince during the war, in somewhat better than his dad. This kinda become a problem when the war ended and the queen finally bore a prince (Prince Youngchang). Many historians believe that the king did not like Gwanghae overshining him and preferred Prince Youngchang to take over the throne instead. However, Prince Yeongchang was too young to be a king anyway, so Prince Gwanghae eventually became the king.
So, here's where things get tricky because people have different opinions about his regime as a king. Most people agree that he put a lot of diplomat effort between the emerging and the falling Chinese nations (This was when the transition of Ming-Qing dynasty was happening in China). He also made a significant reformation in the tax system, and established a new political power among the bureaucrats that would support him. However, he was very cautious of his weak legitimacy as a king, being the second son of the king while the favorite son was still alive. Long story short, he did kill his young brother and confined the Queen Dowager. This event provided the justification for the coup in 1623. (Joseon was a Confucian society, and "filial piety" was one of the most highly considered values in the society.) He spent the rest of his life in confinement in several rural regions in Korea.
I actually never know that Berserk Tiger could be a reference to a different piece until you mentioned in 5:36! Just as a Korean native speaker, one thing I noticed in "미쳐버린 범 (Berserk Tiger)" is that Suga intentionally used the word "범(Bum)" instead of "호랑이(Horang-i)", which is more colloquially used. Not surprisingly, "범(Bum)" is more often used in the historical/literary context. In Korea, a tiger usually referred to strength, military power, warrior, and occasionally the king (though there are different animals that specifically refer to a king).
The second reference is the "Shove the past into a rice chest" (과건 뒤주에 가두고). 7:15 The rice chest is basically a big wooden box where they stored rice (We no longer use it in contemporary Korea, but I think it's usually a 3 to 4 inch cube based on my impression...) King Yeongjo killed his only son, the Crown Prince Sado, by locking him inside the rice chest with no water and no food. Exclaimer! It is NOT our tradition to kill people inside a rice chest lol! Historians suspect that King Yeongjo used this method because it will infer an unforgivable crime if he kills the prince with his own hands. However, his grandson (= the son of the Crown Prince) cannot carry the throne if his father is found guilty. Ideally, he wanted the crown prince to commit suicide (he actually ordered the crown prince to do so, according to the historical record...) but the crown prince resisted.
Why did King Yeongjo kill his only son? This event has probably inspired the greatest number of artists in Korean history due to its dramatic quality. There are several records of the Crown Prince displaying psychological disorder due to an overwhelming stress. As the only son of the king, he received great love and an enormous amount of pressure as a crown prince. Also, when he decided to make his son act as his regent, King Yeongjo did not hesitate to use his son as a political measure. (Officially, he let his son take the role so that he can learn what it means to be a king. The king was healthy, but he was old -- he' s actually the king who lived the longest in Joseon's history) Due to his conflict with his dad, the Crown Prince was getting more violent and intolerable everyday. It didn't help that the Crown Prince was close to 소론(Soron), which was the opposite political faction from that supported the king (which was called 노론 Noron). In fact, a lot of historians considered this political diversion as the most crucial factor of the Crown Prince's death.
To add a bit of drama, the son of the Crown Prince (a.k.a. the grand son of the King) was next to the throne after his father died when the boy was 10. The king was willing to pass the throne to his grandson, but the political power that supported the Crown Prince's death attempted numerous times to prevent the grandson from becoming the king, being worried about his retaliation after enthronement. Yet, the grandson survived and became King Jeongjo, who led the second heyday of Joseon. (p.s. the very first thing he said after his coronation was "I am the son of the Crown Prince Sado." Mic drop.)
So, here are the stories of a Korean history nerd :P I still think about why Suga, or Agust D, decided to put these references into his lyrics... there could be many ways to interpret his work, but isn't that the beauty of art! I hope you enjoyed reading a bit of Korean history for a while :)
And last but not least, thanks for the great video! I've watched the original video and other reactions SO MANY times (lol), but I love how your comments have a unique touch, probably because of you being who you are. Keep going!
P.S. More about Daechwita: Suga actually sampled the playing of the Daechwita in this song. You can easily notice it in the very beginning of the song when the conductor (집사 "Jip-sa" in Korean) says 명금일하 대취타 하랍신다 (which basically means "the king had ordered to play the Daechwita"). Interesting fact: in the original piece, the conductor says this word out of silence. It is only after he announced this words when the music begins. There are also some traditional instruments that are not included in the original Daechwita yet utilized in the song (or at least there is one that is very obvious: the 꽹과리(kkwang-gwa-ri), a high-pitched brass gong that is mostly used in tradition folk music) If you are interested in the original, the National Gugak Center had uploaded their performance long before this song was released, so please take a look :) (Gugak 국악 means traditional Korean Music in Korean)

Simply not true. I know this is an old thread but this myth about Yoongi keeps getting repeated.
The Korean royal line continues to this day. Empress Myeongseong’s grandchildren and great grandchildren are all accounted for, and Yoongi isn’t one of them.
There are about 160,000 living members of the clan Yoongi belongs to, none of them royal. The Joseon (Korean) royal family name is Yi, not Min, and has been since the beginning of the Joseon period in the 14th century CE, to the end of their rule in 1910, and on to the present day.
There is a possibility that Yoongi is **distantly** related to Empress Myeongseong, but that doesn’t make him royal. She married the King, she wasn’t born royal, and Yoongi is definitely not descended from her.

“daechwita” is the Korean word to refer to the traditional marching music played at the time of a King's arrival. It is also played to announce important guests and other royalty. The music video starts with the King avatar of Agust D with a scar running across his eye.

Daechwita is a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon Dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions and characterized by including wind instruments and percussion. It continues to be used on special occasions and for military purposes.
And the fact that daechwita’s beat is consistent throughout the whole song but it sounds like it changes solely based on yoongi’s rap and tone changing. Listen to daechwita instrumental, it is surprisingly calming. Just shows how he uses his full vocal range, the way he switches his flow up and changes his tone.

the whole song is literally him telling "bow down to the new king, you all know my name", daechwita itself is a march for the king in korean tradition, so it all makes even more sense, because the song and the rythm even without the words and the video tell you that he's the king. he didn't mention any names in the song, but in daechwita and in 'what do you think' initially there were names as yoongi himself said when he was talking about the album. so clearly it was directed at someone but also at the whole music industry.

This song has a very powerful message! Yoongi (SUGA) became famous, but he comes from a very poor family. The "King" is the version of himself that achieved fame and wealth, but is also selfish, intolerant, greedy. His other self is the rebel who fights against the "King" and his personality. His current self is more caring, selfless person who stands with common people. He hates his "King" self and wants to destroy it. I really enjoyed your interpretation of it!!! You were a lot closer to the message than I was when I first heard this song. It is chilling great!!!!💜

12:25 You exactly get the point why this is my favorite part. The lyric before is all about "I am so fame and rich, you are nothing, etc." with agressive expressions, and when the beat drops it became more down to earth reality check talk where he show us the shadow side of all he earned. It's a visual and musical cut and gives me goosebumps everytime.

Low-class rebel Agust D is challenging and ends up dethroning tyrant emperor Agust D: It's Yoongi keeping the arrogant, greedy, vengentful and angry side of himself in check. The key lines are: "I got everything I wanted. (...) What’s after this? Experiencing a strong feeling of reality check, a situation where there’s no higher. I had only looked up, now I just wanna look down and gently land." In other words: Now that I've obtained the success I desperately fought for, now that I've experienced self-satisfaction beyond my dreams, I wanna humble myself and make sure I don't fall from the sky disgracefully.

Suga's studio is called the GENIUS lab.
I personally believe his pill-popper comments and stuff are more general rather than pointed towards any one specific person.
DKDKTV on UA-cam has a really good explanation video on Daechwita that I recommend watching if you want to look more into the understanding of the song as well as hidden meanings within it that many of us do not understand.
