- Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow video game review of Need for Speed: Carbon from EA for the Nintendo Wii from October 2006. Set up as a direct sequel, Need for Speed: Carbon takes places immediately after the events of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The game opens up with the player remembering the events of the fateful night when he was forced from Rockport City due to a police set-up for the street race that was going to take place there. Forced to take refuge in the beautiful city of Palmont now, the player must take down those who set him up and take control of Palmont to clear his name and regain his street cred with the racing community from Rockport. This video game review features Need for Speed: Carbon gameplay footage and commentary from CGR Undertow reviewer Ray.
That was the most horrific driving I've seen in my life
+Alexander Roe if you ever used the wii controller you would know why
too easy i don't know why he's struggling but maybe he's not use to it
haha ya he did not spend time tuning his vehicle that is for sure. Im playing through the game now and Im so hooked. im up till early morning hours having one more race, one more race.
Alexander Roe because wii using motion control
the game is great on 360 but wii is terrible
Are you drunk?
I'm playing this currently on the Wii and it's a lot of fun. I changed the control options so I could use the control stick to steer, gives a lot better precision for turning.
9 years ago, are you still alive?
@@gigachad1501 Yes!
I think the 5% limo tint on the windshield is the reason
XD
Just bought the game tonight. Only took me about maybe five minutes to figure out the Wiimote only controls. They aren't too bad. Though I am testing out the other control options. So far I prefer the Nunchuck/Wiimote combo number 4. Turn with the control stick/pull nunchuck for e-brake and floor the Wiimote to accelerate.
This review was so funny!!! Gorgeous graphics LOL
The first boss race is a PAIN! I probably choose the wrong car for the first quarter of the game,so thats my fault, BUT I ALWAYS GET SO CLOSE TO BEATING THE FIRST BOSS CANYON RACE THEN I RUN OUT OF POINTS
i used a gamecube controller when playing nfs carbon on wii
i like the version,but only if i could play with the standard nunchuk controller though
I know this is a 4 year old comment, but you can use the Nunchuk. When using the Niuncuk you Wiimote becomes your gas pedal. So when you thrust the Wiimote down it's like your pushing on the gas. It's pretty cool actually.
HOLY SHIT I WAS BEAST ON THIS GAME long ago when i used to own a nitendow wii lol i gave it to my little bro know only ps3 nd pc games for me
@DonkeyDelight he's playing w/ the wii mote.. that's how
I had this game as a kid. I got pretty good at it despite the clunky Wii remote controls. I beat it using a dodge charger with the manual transmission setting.
@vestibual
the seal of quality does not, and i repeat, DOES NOT mean that the quality is approved by nintendo, it merely means tht nintendo knows tht this game is on their console and therfore can legally sell it on their console
Did you hand the controller to an elderly person? WTF?
Oh, and I LOVED the drag races and don't care for drifting at all. I loved launching my maxed out 70 Chevelle off the line. It was awesome with my surround sound system.
Can't this guy drift?
+Stephen Aderanti yes! he can't!
Ray is a pro in racing. You can tell
Yeah, I just don' t understand how EA seems to "prefer" the ps2. It also happened with the game Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 where the PC and XBOX versions weren' t that good. I have a PS2, but bought a Wii recently, but in this case, the only difference is the graphics, and I don't care about graphics too much
You could use the nunchucks too which made it a better experience
Hey Ray didn't you notice there is a brake button?, you can use it in turns so you dont end crashing into walls... xD.
what is with people and graphics. Its all about gameplay, if u cant sit and play the game for a couple hours its not good
@lylatfox4 Then how come there are so many Wii games released that don't have this seal?
One of my first WII games, total disaster with the motion control, usually I try to back up those motion control because there is some innovation behind most of the games but this WII launch title is really the Gimmick everybody seems to talk about. I'm not saying that this game sucks, just this rushed version for the WII does.
It's a driving game. Story synopsis is kinda surplus to requirements.
Did you understand the story damnit???
If you use the nunchuck instead of the wii wheel style of gameplay, it goes quickly to more of a controller basis of gameplay I used to rent the ps2 version all the time but using the nunchuck controller it felt very natural
@vestibual Exactly my point. I think the bleak state of Wii's third-party development can be traced to the fact that development costs on Wii are so low, almost anyone can make a game. I've even seen a Wii game that was developed by Playmobil and put on the shelf. Normally, I am a detractor of high development and manufacturing costs, but I wish the Wii was built to be as powerful and hardcore as its rivals so that the development costs are so high, questionable developers can't pay for it.
If you've got a wii, I'd advise you get the gamecube version.
I have this and have played through it on the PS2. It's a pretty solid arcade racer, but a little on the easy side. It's worth playing, but isn't the best.
I have this game for both Wii and Xbox 360
nitro is better but could you tell me how good the new driver game on the wii is?
the level on 0:49 is from nfs underground
Dude, what's with all the crashes?
Watch in HD to see how the Wii graphics really are.
I would know because thats what I play. Wii.
I bet the rental stores are bribing Ray.
ahh carbon played this all day every day on the pc ...great game
yeah you can, you have to set it in the options screen
I beat this video game on the PS3, Really cool Need For Speed racing video game! :)
Dude you could've just used the Wii and nunchuck controls instead of the crappy wheel. And I still come back and play this game after beating it for the cop chases. Those are fun!
My personal favourite Need For Speed is Most Wanted.
you know you can get a dump truck and a fire truck in that game.
Ray Han Solo!!???!!!/??
AWESOME!!!
I have Carbon for the Gamecube and sadly i'd rather play it on that then own the Wii version with motion controls.
@bigM10231 Apparently for the looks.
This is a gorgeous looking racing game!?
I found "Most Wanted" to be one the most boring games I've ever played - at this point a racer needs something fresh (like Split/Second) to get me interested - this Midnight Club style street racing is played out.
Having said that - it looks really pretty for a Wii title.
@bigM10231 they didnt use some gimmik to make the game feel unique on the ps2 and 360 it is unique
Can you use manual at the Wii?
need for speed nitro is better, but could you tell me how good the new Driver game on the Wii
playing need for speed in wii is easy
@1t2o3p Nah, they're pretty much identical. Controls on the wii seem to suck, though.
Does it have free roam?
If you have a Wii but you want this game, buy the GameCube version, controls WAAAY better.
or a classic pro control too
XiriusBlack it's not supported
Well to be fair about this game if you use the Wiimote and Nunchuck combo it becomes very playable. It's the only Wii racing game I prefer that style. Using the Wiimote as the gas peddle is pretty cool.
Nah I rather have a much better looking Wii version than GC.
And alternate controls with nunchuk is actually pretty good.
From my experience Wii version especially road textures looked as good as PS3/360 version minus race war,modeled characters poly counts and HD res.
Frame rate holds up well enough and even go up to 60 fps but not for long.
I played it on Wii U's Virtual Wii by the way.
Barami Snaeha You know I a while back I got a copy of this game for 360, Wii and PS2 so that I could compare the visuals of all three. I expected the Wii version to look closer to the PS2 version but for me I felt it looked closer to 360 version as the PS2 version lacked the look that the then next-gen versions had. It was a great looking game for the time
ya i played this game and the controls were a pain, i was constantly over steering and under steering
@crammage Yeah, I'm actualy playing it again on the Xbox.
Stop bloody crashing!!!
i only buy a game if its an RPG or the multipolayer is worth while(Halo,COD,Farcry)If im only in it for a short 8 hour campaign(Walfenstein)Ill rent
PS2 games used to look better than 97% of Wii games lol
Good game on wii, but the wii mote controls is horrible compared to ps2 or Xbox controller
Well, I guess if you're not a very coordinated person, lol.
I never had a problem, just sayin...
@ipodxdude dont forget the gamecube
@crammage you forgot a "than" between "better" and "on" xD
need for speed needs to make a underground or another prostreet. the only two i care about in the series. most wanted was alright.
Muscles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
Somehow I ended up with 3 versions of this game
what?
@Gibson299 yep agreed
@GamerupdateMH
actually compared to hot pursuit, carbon hasent aged well on the HD systems as far as graphics go
@TinyTitian I donno, but probably the controls suck for the wii
but you can't use the nunchuck
Noob you can switch controls to use the nunchuck stick as a controller
.....I know.
can this game be used with a Gamecube controller? i fucking hate driving games with that damn wii controller
No, you can't play it with the GameCube controller, but the Wii remote isn't that awful, takes time to mastered, but few hours later becomes natural and a great controller.
1080p, anyone?
Have you ever heard of speed breaker?
@FastTquick
hey you ? you know that the graphics dossnt matters as long as the gameplay is top noch and secondly the wii has many good looking titles and they are charming as well ? do you say that THE legend of zelda twiligt princess and metroid 3 is bad looking titiles than nintendo game has always charmed us at gameplay not graphics
@starwarsnerd95 how are they if its 99.9% the same game
How can you record yourself for a review of a game that you don't know how to play?
Ya I notice.
@sony4100 the steering sucks... he try to steer with the wiimote only... really? I need an controller for it.
@fastyf1 Your typing skills look like previous generation civilization.
@PokeWHA288 I've never played this game on the Wii. I just have problems with the Wiimote, and motion controls, in general. Just give me a normal controller.
@CrysisLTU2 love this game
i gotz the camaro, subaru wrx,nissan 350z, and clio
@FastTquick That is a major problem, But the light does shine through and there are some awesome games if you know what to look for. I would of liked the wii to have made it harder for crappy games to get on the wii, and actually do something with the seal of quality but nintendo are idiots. Good thing is that 3DS games actually cost between $600,000 and $100,000,000 to make so we shouldn't see too many Carnival Games 3D or anything. :D
@futoncat
I hope so!
pro tip: switch to first person camera, it's easier trust me
@GenAdams no, not really
huh sequal to most wanted:S i thought it came after underground on the ps2....
WAY BETTER on the SEx BOx!
ps2 is old but it has good graphics and better games than ps3 thats what i think
nope, wii remote only
I have the same thing... only for pc!
@vennom59 No. Those are obviously good games. What's pathetic is that the majority of third-party Wii games look bad and play terribly with the exception of a few games(Okami, Goldeneye, Epic Mickey). That's why I said that Gamecube and Xbox games usually look better than most Wii games because most of the time, third-party developers don't even bother making their games look and play great on Wii.
you knowe it somthing that its cald brake!
yea!
who all has this game on the wii
I have it on Nintendo Wii and Xbox. 360
@FastTquick A lot of third party games are awful, but that's just because a lot of people have the console and these lazy developers can make easy money basically scamming people who buy the games. But I wouldn't say all the third party games are bad, I could name about 30 good ones. But to get to them I had to take chances and wade through the shit that lots of other developers put on the market. Also a lot of wii games were just ports of last gen games as it was just easier to do. Bad though.
@DonkeyDelight lol, good point
Did this man say toeg? It's touge toe-gay
tis looks like previous generation consouls
can u just explore in relax mode
it's touge [TOW-GAY] not toug
