The 0079 novels are a very interesting thing to look at. It's pure Tomino without any sponsor or network restrictions and compromises. So we get a very clear idea of what he was interested in. Much more focus on the sci-fi elements and much less on the interpersonal interactions. Almost no melodrama. Much more mature in the sex and violence. An almost obsession with the Newtype concept.
Though the novels are definitely for seasoned Gundam fans who have already watched 0079. I would absolutely not suggest it as an entry point into the franchise. This is perfectly exemplified by the first book unceremoniously revealing Char and Sayla's backstory in narration in the first few chapters. You already knew that twist from the anime and the book expects you to.

I think it's because the novels are 100% Tomino's vision. He didn't need to compromise with anyone.
Ever notice that there are certain Gundam series that no one talks about?
I recently started watching Gundam X and I'm enjoying it. But in my 3 years of being a Gundam fan, I didn't see anyone talking about it at all. Maybe it has to do with recency bias mixed with only older UC series getting attention.
People have been talking about it more since it can be streamed on Tubi. I will cover it soon.

I thought the reason why Char said he had an eye injury in origins was to have an excuse to wear glasses that hid his blue eyes, which would reveal that he wasnt the real Char Aznable.
I thought that was driven home when his roommate had his first close look at him and realized it wasn't his childhood friend.
That's his real reason, not the made up excuse he tells people
also they Amuro gets the Gundam in canon is more like a Super Robot anime during the 70s
@@primusvsunicron1 In general, the Gundam anime seemed to be made to more closer to contemporary mecha anime than Tomino originally intended. In the novels, the Gundam is only ever described as white, which i assume means it had no red, blue or yellow. Amuro's dad was not the Gundam's designer. There is much less interpersonal drama. And Amuro isn't a moody teenage civilian.
