@@2_breakfast Yeah, I feel like there was too much time spent on fleshing out the characters, which is usually a good thing, but it becomes a problem if it’s the focus of a short horror story and not enough time is given to the actual *horror* of the story.

We had something like this in the village I grew up in and they found out what it was. There was a bunker in a field that was forgotten about and a road built over it. It was attached to the grid just it was built when the village was small. When the alarms when off it would echo through the sewage system waking the whole village. The irony is the sewage was causing the alarm to go off when it rained and flooded. One of the joys of growing up on the Welsh coast

@@kathyinwonderlandl.a.8934 it's ok to grow up in a sea side Celtic village but we all have to move out or we never find work. Once you leave it can be difficult to return as the buy in price for the lifestyle is high even if the cost of living is cheap. Sadly our young will go off and never return other than to visit.
@@jackdare na the entire country is covered in pill boxes from ww2 as the UK prepared to be invaded. People still find sentry bombs and stuff with metal detectors and stuff. There is a chemical plant when you get over in to the town part where if the alarms go off it phones people as well. No point running if you hear an alarm it's already too late. They don't really give you a 5min warning if a nuke is about to hit. And the sewage system out in the sticks in Wales. You can't fit people into them. They are 8" pipes that lead to a 3' pipe . You can't walk about in them. Loads of forgotten stuff left over from the war here
I wonder what makes the bunker more safe than the hutch or a normal house. Whatever took him clearly didn’t need physical access
People associate safety with a bunker the walls secured door one way in and out also safety in numbers.

The bunker may be constructed with protections no one can see.
They mentioned it was a spirit so it could probably go through walls. If that's the case then the bunker would probably have some warding to keep the spirit out and maybe some false walls so nobody could mess with them. The warding idea could also work on other supernatural beings besides spirits and really it could take any number of forms. Have you not seen supernatural?
It could also be some weird effect rather than an entity. Perhaps when the alarm goes off aging is dramatically sped up unless you're in the bunker or something.
I want a sequel/prequel about that one guy who survived outside when he was little. I also want to know what makes the bunker safer than a house. Also, have they ever tried recording what happens outside? Put a camera right outside the bunker at the people banging on the doors. Also curious how big the area of influence is.

You're asking for literally all the details that the author intentionally left out specifically to make the story.. kinda defeats the entire point.

So..... What's the ending? Built up SO much that I was at the edge of my seat, SURELY knowing a few more hours were left so I'd learn what terrible secret the Church (and/or that wealthy family) had with the demon thing, wanting to know what awful troubles the main and his girl and their friends would get into - and somehow my phone must have glitched because main is at his friend's hidey place WITH NOTHING GOING ON BUT A LOCKED DOOR WHICH IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. So where's the story? Built up the people nicely, leaving room for 3 hrs more story and ended with a locked door.
I swear to God Lassie best come running up to show me what happened and what I missed cuz if THIS was the entire story, I want my mb back that I used to download this AND my time back for being so built up and then wasted.
It’s not a thrilling ending but the ending is terrifying because the bunker wasn’t damaged and door still locked(only locks from the inside) yet he isn’t in there and all of that protection meant nothing to the forces behind the alarm
I'm not even mad about it. I'm just disappointed. You can't put that much effort into you buildup and just give such a half hearted ending.

My town has an event of Disappearance that occurs only every 20 years, and my friend, for no reason, wanted to survive through an event, using a - what can be considered as- A "Fortified shed". Note that even if you are indoors, if you are not under the influence of 22 different substances, you will disappear.
My friend was not there. WONDER WHY.

Me casually bringing up the idea of putting cameras everywhere and seeing what the hell is dangerous enough to cause a town evacuation every time it comes
Like some others have said, the build up pretty much went nowhere. When he went on about Edna I figured it'd be cause she vanished or because she became his girlfriend or something, but then he switches to this new girl who we pretty much know nothing about which was weird in itself. The only thing I can think of regarding the ending and the state of the bunker is that it appeared there were *zero* ways to see in or out, and you could barely even hear noise from outside.. which makes me speculate that this is something that either needs to be seen or heard.
Think about it, Kyle's little safety place had a window so you could see in or out.. but what if that allows the entity (or whatever) to see *in* so it can get you. Something something everyone's gone to rapture, kinda situation, perhaps.
I hope this is the first of a series, because I am invested in the storyline

Let's see. "It grants a wish".. ok? Except there were zero, count them, zero stories about someone getting a wish granted and innumerable stories where you literally just die.
So.. obviously it means the wish is the sensible story. Obviously.
The scariest part of this story is when Creeps said "the alarm" at one point my fucking RV gas alarm went off. Scared the shit outta me

One would think to set up a camera system so they can watch what was going on out side and see why they needed to go down. It was locked and that was it? Will there be a part 2? Could the auther of this story be a newbie? Or was he trying something new. It is Far Scape all over again T_T... We will never know.
An excellent story, albeit that ending leaves we listeners to our own devices as to what did happen? I saw that another commenter said that Kyles wish to be with his mother took him to her, instead of her back to him. And that’s about as much sense as I can make of it. As no one could enter his bunker, and he supposedly never left on his own, ??? 🤷🏼♂️
I’d like to believe it’s a supernatural thing, and even those who claimed to know truly didn’t. Or maybe they only knew enough to stay the hell out of the way. But used their propaganda to bring more people to their cause. Basically as extra spreaders of that very same propaganda. All in all a great story! I wished it had been longer!! 👍👍👍

Seriously, the ending was so sudden I didn’t know it ended and was waiting for more. Though I kind of liked it too because it was so unexpected.

I think he got his wish. The door shelter can't be locked form the outside. Only the inside, so he got his wish just not in the way. He expected it but we will never know what actually happened inside the shelter. But that is what makes it such a good creepy pasta.
What an interesting set up for a story that the author then just sort of gave up on.

After hearing that, I feel like there needed to be more build up with the friend, or less with the girlfriend.
I feel like an alternate ending would be if the narrator was chatting with his friend and the sirens began to go off, and they were writing this as a “I’m sorry goodbye” that was sent out with half a sentence or something...

His friend made it inside the bunker and had the door locked this could mean two outcomes. The first being he locked himself inside the bunker but he was still taken by the monster or the second being He did get his wish and wished to be with his dead mother again implying he was sent to the afterlife.
This story reminds me of the movie The Village

The bunker part reminded me of Abandoned by Disney: Room Zero. "Close the door dear, you're letting out the cold"
So if the door was locked and it doesn’t look like there was a struggle it was something supernatural and the bunker was a safe place from the supernatural creatures.

It doesnt make sense that if you knew when the day was coming you wouldnt just all take the day off, know where everyone is, etc. that way you'd know your kids were safe. But good story though, I enjoy the plot

I’m wondering about their hospital & elderly homes, what do they do with their patients when the alarms starts going off? Like the really sick ones or the ones in surgery, like sure I get that the doctor wouldn’t book surgery’s near or on the alarm day but what about emergency surgery’s?? & what about the really sick patients that are intubated &/or in comas & stuff??? & the sick elderly people what do they do with/about them, do they their own bunkers or what????🤔🤨🤷♂️
The oldest person in the town is in his 80's. That should be explanation enough.

I see what the author was going for, but honestly the ending was a bit of a wet fart. Not too horrific to imagine a Djin or whatever this creature is being able to send Kyle to the afterlife.

20 years is quite a long time.
I'd imagine that most exterior public alarm systems are temporary structures not designed to last more than 10 years without being overhauled or replaced. Test alarms would need to be regularly sounded to ensure the system still functioned. The populous would need to be instructed on what to do in the event of an alarm.
I guess if it's built like a lamp post or pylon the supporting sructure could last upto 80 years if properly maintained. The alarm system itself would probably need to be replaced a few times during that period though.
Could be a lot longer though if the alarm was sounded by an old school bell tower...
